rection of dr bruce carey his successor and present director is dr ifor jones in the choir's long history peo ple from far and near have attend ed the sessions to prove the last ing impression which the work of this group has made on those who have heard it a glance at the list of guarantors is sufficient this year the list includes names of per sons living in california connec ticut delaware illinois indiana maryland massachusetts new hampshire new jersey new york ohio oregon pennsylvania rhode island vermont virginia washington d c new mexico nova scotia and france the board of managers of the choir estimate that this is the big gest year for attendance in the his tory of the affair accomodations at local hotels have been filled to capacity for over a week and the seats in the chapel have been sold out since early in the month many of the additional seats which have been provided in the packard au ditorium are already taken this year as in other years the program is divided into four ses sions — two today and two tomor row in accordance with tradition today's sessions were given over to the singing of a number of bach's cantatas tomorrow's sessions which to many are the most im pressive are as always devoted to the singing of the famous mass in b minor this evening the program begins at 7:30 and tomorrow's ses sions are at 2:30 and 5 p m by richard b palmer today and tomorrow lehigh university will be host to the world-famous bach choir and the colorful crowds drawn by the choir for the 33rd time since the founding of the group in 1898 le high students will again witness the spectacle of sleek limousines unloading sedate elderly music lovers at the chapel door hushed crowds waiting their turn to enter the bench-filled church and if the weather is favorable hundreds of intent listeners sitting and lying on the lawns listening to the strains of bach's majestic music coming through the gothic windows should the student be interest ed in good music he may join the crowd on the lawn and enjoy the swelling chords of the choir the crescendos and diminuendos of the orchestra the rumble of the organ he will become part of the color ful audience which thoroughly enjoys itself and is truly apprecia tive of the fine music the choir which was founded in bethlehem in 1898 by the late dr j fred wolle has devoted it self as the name implies to the presentation of the music of jo hann sebastian bach in its early years the organization gave its recitals in the moravian church later however the place of pres entation was moved to packer memorial chapel where it has re mained the choir continued un der the direction of dr wolle un til the time of his death at that time the future of the already famed and loved organization seemed doomed but last wednesday night in drown hall the abolishment of the epitome was discussed the general senti ment was against such an abolish ment although a posible revision in the method of selecting the business staff for that publication was discussed along with the idea of including the cost of the epitome in registration fees so that every student would receive a copy a report on the epitome
