brown and white mmmmmmmmmmmm vol 78 - no 8 ' mmmmmmmmmmmm bethl€hem pa - friday october 14 1966 866-0331 mmmmmsmm cabinet make-up opposed by marty marasco thirteen members of the class of 69 met mon day to coordinate a protest over the present make up of the class cabinet the group was brought together by ric wilson and terry ruefli in an attempt to form a united block of the sophomore residence halls members to protest the present lopsided representation of the class cabinet our major objective is to insure that the new constitution now being drawn up for the class eliminates the present inequities in representa tion said wilson the main action taken by the group was to circulate a petition insisting that four points be written into the new constitution they include each living group shall have one and only one voting representative to the class cabinet excluding class officers members at large may be appointed by the president but may have no vote and may not serve as committee chairmen there may be no more than 60 mem bers of the class cabinet and representatives from each living group are to be elected by their living group the group also decided to tell each member signing the petition not to sign any constitution unless the four provisions are included aside from the residence hall groups several fraternities have asked for copies of the petition and are having them signed by their sophomores in the present make-up of the cabinet some living groups have as many as six meml>ers while ten living groups have no members there are seven living groups with more than two mem bers on the cabinet of those seven five of them have members on the executive committee who selected the other cabinet members imbalance is created by members at large and by a policy of assigning members of other living group to represent those living groups from which no one applied for membership in the cabinet there is a communications problem when a person represents a group to which he does not belong this problem would not exist if each living casey cogut ric wilson professor warns china in for trouble by donald palmer unless the conservative element gains control in china mao is going to starve out the chinese people declared prof aurle dunlap in whitaker lab auditorium wednesday in his talk " what's going on in red china dunlap said it is evident from the facts that a very strong ferment is going on in china today dunlap viewed the internal chinese struggle from several angles first he called the viet nam conflict as a catalyst in this struggle he said that the new conservative wing dreads all-out involvement in viet nam and realizes that a prolonged ground war would turn into a " war of economic attrition with theujs a war which china can't afford dunlap said that the hard-line maoists view the war as having " global implications lin piao commander of the army and second to mao has written that who wins in viet nam will determine who will win in the world-wide struggle between the oppressed nations and the indus trialized nations dunlap said this belief formed a basis for china's undertaking of severe calculated risks however piao has never stated that china will be involved directly in viet nam and has evaded an actual commitment dunlap has compared china's actual policy in the war to that of lenin's " war by proxy dunlap pointed to the si no soviet split as another major area for china's political dissentlon the conservative element is inserting " pragmatism for dogma while the maoists " resist this revisionism as heresy stated dunlap he sals that the revisionists want china to learn to adapt to communism from russia's mistakes however the maoist oldsters dream of the greater china which can according to them only evolve from a strict interpretation of marx hence the " maoists won't sell out even at the expense of a lower standard of living for the people of china in their recent rioting the red guard has made ifc arcadia no rhc fund favored the proposed arcadia reserve fund tax was unanimously opposed in a straw vote taken during tuesday's meeting of the inter-fraternity council instead the council favored the rhc proposal which would provide for the optional purchase of an activities card at the rate of 1 per year the group decided that with the card the people who pay the tax will reap the benefits of better activities in discussions preceding the vote the representatives seemed to oppose the tax because those who may not be interested in university activities would be subject to taxation the primary source of revenue for the fund would be a 10 per cent tax on profits up to 1,000 and 15 per cent on all excess profits provided there was a total profit of at least 250 from student-sponsored a 1 1-campus events in other activities the sc holar -
