              one new sorority will colonize on cam pus in mid-october and there is a possi bility that a second one will also colonize later this semester according to larry philippi assistant to the dean for frater nity and sorority affairs the sorority selection process began last april when forum xiii passed a resolution to provide for the existing sor orities to move to the centennial com plex along with a new one philippi said the resolution is needed he said because of the growing popularity of sor orities and the inability of existing soror ities to accommodate interested women he also said there is a need to integrate more women on campus the panhellenic council panhel , the forum and the residence halls council rhc worked on an agreement to facili tate the move the agreement reached is one by which the sororities recruit resi new sorority to colonize panhel considers another see sororities page 7 dence halls students to live in saucon married and graduate students smags units he said as each smags unit is filled a sorority will move into a centennial unit selecting which sorority to bring on campus was a lengthy process that began last spring and ended early this semester when the final choice was reached by panhel philippi said the competition was narrowed down to six sororities philippi continued adding that after thorough investigation three sororities were selected as finalists on aug 29 and 30 the local alumni and national representatives from each of the three sororities came to campus to give final presentations on financial capabilities local alumni where alcohol is served that potential is much higher at a hotel party there is a certain ethos at a hotel party that encourages sampling of each different drink quay said cocktail parties deemed blame for irresponsible drinking by peter trumbore the dean of students office has placed a temporary hold on hotel parties charging that the very nature of the par ties leads to irresponsible drinking a hotel party is one in which a differ ent alcoholic drink is served in each room of living quarters the party ban affects all living groups including fra ternities sororities and residence halls according to dean of students william quay there have been a lot of reports of irresponsible drinking at these parties . . creating some very bad situations for that reason quay continued it was decided that the parties would be put on hold until the university could sit down with student leaders and totally review the whole question of hotel parties according to quay irresponsible drinking is a euphemism for drunken ness leading to disorder vandalism violence and anti-social behavior ' ' quay said that a definite example of this occurred at a fraternity hotel party last lehigh idea to form a new fraternity last semester after speaking with a phi kappa psi member at the university of pennsylvania lubus claimed the colony did not originally anticipate any problems with the agreed with lubus account i did com municate with the university last semester i spoke to the director of phi kappa psi colonizes without official recognition by rhonda stoner we cannot prevent phi kappa psi fraternity from the right to get together said larry philippi assistant to the dean of students for fraternity and sorority affairs regarding the new national frater nity which colonized on campus last semester but they will not receive official recognition from the university without this recognition phi kappa psi will be unable to partici pate in interfraternity council ifc events
