states 2 alternatives in regard to social codes by kathi moore there are two alternative for a social code university president peter likins told fraternity house presidents at an inter-fraternity council ifc presi dents meeting saturday either a student-established social code backed by the statement of social responsibility will be enacted or the social regulations established in 1981 will be enforced lik ins said noting that the 1981 regulations will be enforced more thoroughly than they are this semester according to marshall wenrich 85 ifc president likins noted that the statement of social responsibility is different from the social code the students may develop we are dealing with two very different kinds of tasks one has to do with the statement of responsibility the other has to do with detailed standards of behavior that would replace the regulations cur rently in effect likins said the statement of social responsibility is a moral statement the , statement would indicate that students generally assume responsibility for the social environment the statement of social responsibility will be addressed by the board of trus tees at their october meeting at that meeting if the trustees are accepting of the committment on the part of lehigh students to accept these moral responsibilities then my inten tion is to ask the trustees to disengage themselves from the detailed determina tion of operating rules and regulations and to allow the forum under guidance of the administration to establish the social standarsds that govern the daily routine at lehigh likins said we have a major task in trying to make it clear to the trustees by october that lehigh students are sufficiently mature and responsible so they pan at least for a two year trial period accept these responsibilities and provide reaso nable assurance of a healthy social environment at lehigh he added .^\ likins said that there is no simple answer on how to show the trustees that university students are committed to a statement of social responsibility he added that more has to be shown than that in april of 1984 university students talked about the statement of social . responsibility • ■likins said he wants to be sure that students are actively thinking about this all the time he noted that if he indicated just exactly what it takes to prove the committment of university students david toner pulled the car over at the intersection of fourth and new streets three juveniles two males and a female fled the scene but santana who fit the description and a 17-year-old were apprehended diluzio said toner reported that simowitz's new jersey license plates had been replaced by pennsylvania tags belonging to a woman from easton he said that at least three plate changes had taken place diluzio urged anyone who may have been near the scene at the time of the incident to contact the campus police . by darren maloney an 18-year-old bethlehem man and a juvenile were apprehended by police sunday for driving the car of a univer sity student who was kidnapped sup posedly at gunpoint in front of ltnderman library friday night sergio santana of 616 ontario st and a 17-year-old were arraigned before dis trict magistrate john gombosi for pos session of stolen property early monday morning and santana is being held in default of 25,000 bail in northampton county prison in easton university graduate student robert simowitz 22 was forced to take a half hour drive by a gunman who robbed the student of his car and 50 in bethlehem township simowitz fled into a nearby woods and escaped unharmed according to campus police officer mark diluzio charges against santana including assault abduction and robbery are imminent today and tomor ; row and will be filed
