official case in lehigh history the in terfraternity council ifc appeals committee voted to uphold the recommendation to dean of students john smeaton for the dissolution of delta sigma phi fraternity delta sig was found guilty of hazing charges at the april 2 meeting of the interfraternity judiciary committee uc the fraternity appealed to the committee because they felt the ijc's hearing violated the principles of due process according to greek life coordinator mike boyd delta sig felt they should have had the opportunity to respond to information in their discipline file during the period between the ijc's verdict and the sanction in order to show their record of house improvements since flasher crashes dorm by i oki soderlind a local man was arrested early saturday morning and charged with indecent exposure and criminal trespass after he allegedly entered a trembley park apartment and harrassed four lehigh women according to one of the residents the man entered through the apartment's partially open door at about 2:30 a.m stood in the living room with his tongue protruding and said i want all of you the four women in the apartment asked the man to leave and threatened to call the police but the intruder remained standing in their living room making obscene facial gestures after the man wordlessly refused to leave one of the women held up a camera and threatened to take his picture meanwhile another apartment resident phoned campus police he just kept standing there so my roommate took his picture one of the witnesses said after that the intruder dropped his pants and remained silently staring about the apartment when the police arrived the man fled outside and up a staircase where he was apprehended and arrested another lehigh student positively identified the suspect as the same man who had harrassed her on the hill earlier that evening she said the man followed her and grabbed her while she was walking to a party with friends he was in police custody at the time of the rape on carlton avenue early sunday morning the trembley resident's film is being held for evidence faculty considers problems of drinking in classrooms by rich simon the faculty educational policy committee edpol authorized outgoing chairman howard whitcomb government chairman to make a motion to the full faculty at next monday's faculty meeting which may prohibit alcohol in buildings on lower campus although the motion is still in the planning stage committee members said that it should include language emphasizing the committee's concern with the increasing amount of alcohol finding its way into classrooms as well as a proposal for a specific solution to the problem whitcomb mentioned specific instances in which the university was put in an extremely embarrassing position because of the ap pearance of alcohol in academic buildings he said that during greek week a bottle of wild turkey bourbon whiskey was left in the foyer of maginnes hall for several days students saw it faculty saw it and visitors saw it he also told of an incident last week when a university vice-president was present in a class when the door swung open and several students came in passed out cups and poured rum and cokes for everyone business college dean richard barseness said this behavior reflects negatively on lehigh especially in recruiting greek week is in a sense a student created fourth vacation which is more destructive than any other whitcomb said lesbian lecturer reviews progress of gay rights by amy charles she is a lesbian when she was a teenager her parents encouraged her discoveries about her sexual self in school she had gay friends and teachers who admitted that they were gay her sex-ed classes showed lesbianism and homosexuality as something positive prime-time television programs which showed gays made her feel proud to be gay she and her girlfriend went to the senior prom where the chaperones said don't they make a nice couple when she became an adult she was able to meet other gays in a pleasant social setting never worried about job discrimination and married her lesbian lover in a church ceremony she doesn't exist she is the fairy tale that barbara gittings told to open her talk on gay rights — who needs them tuesday night to more than 50 people in packard lab auditorium gittings speaking at the invitation of the lesbian and gay people at lehigh is one of the pioneers of the gay rights movement she joined the movement in the 50s when it consisted of a half-dozen secret groups scattered around the country she worked on countless newsletters committees and public educational programs to give support to isolated gays all over the country and to make the non-gay community aware ot the gay com munity's existence gittings reviewed the progress of the gay rights movement over the past few decades she pointed out the black rights militancy of the 60s as a major factor in the mobilization of the gay rights movement and named the stonewall riots in greenwich village as a commonly accepted turning point for the movement the stonewall riots were three days of gays battling new york police in the 60s provoked by a police raid on a gay bar until then gittings said gays had not resisted such raids the riots made headlines nationwide and encouraged other gays to resist unethical police action b&w
