fraternity judiciary committee uc placed alpha sigma phi fraternity on disciplinary probation for the remainder of the spring semester in a decision last monday in a related decision friday the university discipline committee found two alpha sig brothers guilty of assault and a theta delta chi brother guilty of failure to leave alpha sig's premises alpha sig as a whole was found guilty because of university policy on corporate responsibility which holds an organization liable for the actions of its members the hearings stemmed from an early morning brawl at alpha sig feb 10 involving at least 10 alpha fiji charged with harassment by sheila meagher phi gamma delta fraternity fiji was placed on disciplinary probation following a disciplinary hearing tuesday concerning charges brought against the house by two lafayette women at the beginning of march disciplinary probation carries no immediate sanction but implies that further violations of the code of conduct may result in social probation or dissolution or ter mination of the living group the women originally charged that that they were sexually molested at fiji's annual ft lauderdale party saturday march 2 following the party the women complained to campus police that they had been harrassed by guests forum closes all-night study by chris palmeri forum co-chairman jeff brotman an nounced at thursday's forum xv meeting that neville hall auditorium ii would no longer be open for all-night study brotman said there had been several in cidents of vandalism since the room was opened on a trial basis a soda machine was destroyed and some fiberglass seats slashed brotman did not want to blame students for the damage it could have been anyone however he said he was dissappointed that we weren't able to use the facility brotman said the forum would look into other places where all-night study hours could be arranged and a place would still be opened for finals during the courtesy of the floor senior scott dickinson found out how responsive the university administration can be to the needs of a student dickinson expressed his dissap pointment with student-faculty relations at lehigh he said that no one he knew had participated in student faculty interaction week several weeks ago and that after four years he had failed to develop the kind of relationship with faculty he had heard exists at other schools in prompt response to his plea president peter likins invited dickinson to his house for dinner that evening brotman said the forum would definitely look into the faculty-student relations situation in the future in other business the forum passed a proposal which asks the treasurer to look into the feasiblity of a prepaid tuition program on which a student may pay in advance for all or some of his education senior neil singer said he wished the proposal was more specific and that nothing concrete had been established as of yet sophomore becky blank gave the forum a progress report on taylor college she said that of that 68 percent of taylor's 154 residents were planning on returning next year with the majority of those leaving going to delta tau delta fraternity and kappa alpha theta sorority close to 82 percent of the freshmen were returning blank said she was not aware what the percentages were for students returning to other residence halls but she thought taylor's return percentage was very high in his speech to the forum likins congratulated the wrestling and women's and men's basketball teams on their outstanding performances likins said his office was inundated with letters and calls from supportive alumni likins apologized for not mentioning lehigh's other teams leaving people out is part of the problem sorry but he was quick to offer praise pleasant spring weather while constructing kites that they hoped to send airborne friday in front of maginnes hall leftist calls right policies wrong by lynn anne miller black activist angela davis urged blacks and whites to unite and fight the tremendous upsurge in racism spawned by reagan administration policies davis spoke before a standing room only crowd in neville hall saturday night i happen to think davis said that this country has a powerful legacy of struggle not only by racially oppressed people but also among white workers that is not generally known we have to begin to reap the fruits of that legacy " davis first warned that she would refer to reagan throughout her ad dress because she has followed his political career ever since he fired her from her teaching position at the university of california at los angeles 16 years ago davis was fired because of her membership in the communist party usa she retained her mem bership in the party and now serves on its central committee she has twice run as the party's candidate for vice president of the united states i've discovered that reagan's not really very intelligent davis said he should not be receiving credit for having orchestrated the systematic attack on the rights of the people in this country instead she alleged the president is a mere mouthpiece for extremely dangerous groups davis charged the reagan ad ministration with emasculating the civil rights commission allowing increases in the black unemployment rate and in the number of crimes committed by police in the black community supporting apartheid in south africa encouraging attacks on abortion centers allowing educational benefits to be cut with a racist edge denying equal rights for women and pursing interventionist militaristic policies in central america mass activism davis said is the key to reversing the government's initiatives and the leaders of this activism she said will look to black women to continue their lead in the fight against repression it cannot be denied that afro-american women have made critically important con tributions to all of the major struggles for democracy and justice and freedom that have unfolded in
