properties were the reasons for choosing our town as the annual spring production of the dramatic workshop according to albert a rights instructor in english and director of dramatics the play will be presented sat urday april 13 in broughal high school most people will like this play rights declared because it comes at a time when its comic study of life with an injected flavor of rea lism will have a great appeal our town had an eight month run on broadway last season and has made extended tours of the summer theater circuits thornton wilder who is the author frank craven and martha scott played leading roles in the original pro duction of the bell and the cautious rattl ing of chains as the door was opened again a second mob stamped into the hall trampling the freshman under foot and filling the air with its terrible shouts this mob too wanted mere auto graphs to satisfy the mission of its members who prowled about the house in parties of twos and threes reporting their discoveries to one another in muttered voices and at last departing when the third group began pawing at the door several men dodged rapidly under the tables and someone suggested turning out the lights and pretending no one was home but steeling himself to the task a second freshman went to the front door the first had been tenderly laid out in state in the card room and his parents notified . the group which next arrived was more amiable and sang a little ditty before leaving the words of this song were of questionable nature . as the girls left they wrote nasty remarks with wet mittens on the mirror in the hall and tore several lighting fix tures off in their eagerness to leave casualties this time mounted to three men who were found dead of suffocation beneath the tables were they had taken refuge later investigation revealed the whole mystrious business to be the informal preliminaries to the ini tiation of a fern sem sorority grace at the sig ep house now concludes with the humble plea and deliver us from the amazons of church street amen wednesday night it snowed very hard and the wind blew about the house as the brothers sat at sup per but the deep-rooted peace of the house was broken when a freshman cocked his ear and growled faintly the brothers of sigma phi epsilon bent their ears to the air and listened a distant shuffling came to their harkening ears then the door bell rang soft ly silence fell suddenly the many conversations were stilled the freshman crept warily into the hall all could hear him fumble with the front door snowy figures rushed in out of the storm and howled into the dining room several brothers rose to their feet and reached for their holsters a few others dropped to their knees in prayer as wild a crew of human beings as ever was seen stood gesturing in the doorway girls six of them dressed in barbaric furs and ski pants crouched with papers and pencils in their hands yelping for autographs readily they were obliged but not before they had thoroughly canvassed the house put whiskers on a portrait of the founder of the house fell down the cellar steps and made five dates for the following friday they de parted grunting with satisfaction a freshman closed the front door pulled the rug back into place and plowed his way through the snow left in the hall back into the dining room but this was the only the begin ning again there came a bleating at the front door the timorous ring lehigh university brown and white dances tonight bethlehem pa friday march 1 1940 frosh class book planned for next year vol xlvii — no played leading roles in the original pro duction of the bell and the cautious rattl ing of chains as the door was opened again a second mob stamped into the hall trampling the freshman under foot and filling the air with its terrible shouts this mob too wanted mere auto graphs to satisfy the mission of its members who prowled about the house in parties of twos and threes reporting their discoveries to one another in muttered voices and at last departing when the third group began pawing at the door several men dodged rapidly under the tables and someone suggested turning out the lights and pretending no one was home but steeling himself to the task a second freshman went to the front door the first had been tenderly laid out in state in the card room and his parents notified . the group which next arrived was more amiable and sang a little ditty before leaving the words of this song were of questionable nature . as the girls left they wrote nasty remarks with wet mittens on the mirror in the hall and tore several lighting fix tures off in their eagerness to leave casualties this time mounted to three men who were found dead of suffocation beneath the tables were they had taken refuge later investigation revealed the whole mystrious business to be the informal preliminaries to the ini tiation of a fern sem sorority grace at the sig ep house now concludes with the humble plea and deliver us from the amazons of church street amen wednesday night it snowed very hard and the wind blew about the house as the brothers sat at sup per but the deep-rooted peace of the house was broken when a freshman cocked his ear and growled faintly the brothers of sigma phi epsilon bent their ears to the air and listened a distant shuffling came to their harkening ears then the door bell rang soft ly silence fell suddenly the many conversations were stilled the freshman crept warily into the hall all could hear him fumble with the front door snowy figures rushed in out of the storm and howled into the dining room several brothers rose to their feet and reached for their holsters a few others dropped to their knees in prayer as wild a crew of human beings as ever was seen stood gesturing in the doorway girls six of them dressed in barbaric furs and ski pants crouched with papers and pencils in their hands yelping for autographs readily they were obliged but not before they had thoroughly canvassed the house put whiskers on a portrait of the founder of the house fell down the cellar steps and made five dates for the following friday they de parted grunting with satisfaction a freshman closed the front door pulled the rug back into place and plowed his way through the snow left in the hall back into the dining room but this was the only the begin ning again there came a bleating at the front door the timorous ring lehigh university brown and white dances tonight bethlehem pa friday march 1 1940 frosh class book planned for next year vol xlvii — no
