took shape this week on paper as university architects rushed to completion the final working drawings of the 300,000 campus addition as snow drifted heavily against stakes driven in the ground to mark the location of the building andrew w litzenberger super intendent of buildings and grounds in an interview today visualized the appearance of the building as it will look when completed early in 1941 for 188 feet along taylor street and 119 feet deep the area of one city block the two and a half story structure overlooks the cam pus the basement only partially excavated due to the sloping ter rain is equipped with squash and handball courts and service rooms where janitors quarters store rooms and hot water facilities are located to seat 2500-3200 on the main floor a well-fur nished lobby faces the street be hind this is the sports arena de signed especially for basketball and wrestling a portable seating arrangement provides a seating ca pacity of 2500 persons for basket ball games and 3200 for wrestling meets under the seats is located a band room serving also as the of fice of dr t edgar shields direc tor of music skirting the arena is situated a series of outside rooms which serve as offices for coaches and visiting and home team dressing rooms locker and shower facilities are also located on this floor set back from the face of the building so as to form a promen ade looms the upper story of grace hall couples attending lehigh af fairs and seeking a respite from dancing on the spacious floor within take advantage of the promenade which affords a view of the entire critics throughout the nation and the european continent started to play the violin at the age of seven he made his profes sional debut at 16 in paris and the following season he made his first american appearance at car negie hall in new york city besides his accomplishments as a violinist spalding has been rec ognized for many years as a com poser of note he has appeared in recital and symphony orchestra programs in every large american city and in many of the leading music centers of europe and south america during the past 30 years in recognition for distinguished services as an yesterday noon albert w fos ter bus 42 debated with meyer of muhlenberg college before the bethlehem kiwanis club's lunch eon meeting at the hotel bethle hem foster argued the affirmative side the next debate will be between albert e ponter jr bus 40 of lehigh and freeman of dickinson college feb 23 at a meeting of the coopersburg lions club j calvin callaghan director of de bating has announced ponter will take the negative williams attends dinner president c c williams yester day attended a dinner given in honor of lord lothian british am bassador to the united states in the university club in new york the lehigh collegians the uni versity swing orchestra has been chosen to play every saturday night at the hotel traylor allen town until the beginning of june announced jacob s hartzell bus 40 the orchestra will also play for lafayette houseparty which will be held march 9 the arcadia dance to be held to night in the armory received the approval of dean wray h cong don approval was granted on the condition the time of the dance be changed to that it would not con flict with the recital to be given by albert spalding the time has therefore been changed to 10 to from the bethlehem steel company dr bruce johnston as sistant professor of civil engineer ing announced recently seven men were initiated into alpha kappa psi national business fraternity at a meeting last night at the phi delta theta house the following business students were initiated richard f pearce 40 bernard a smith 40 henry d chandler 41 john w whiting jr 41 robert m ulmer 41 em ery w loomis jr 41 and james r hendry 41 robert b coleman 40 will be initiated at a later date during the meeting the possibil ity of making a trip to the new york stock exchange was discus sed the lehigh student chemical society presented dr carleton h schlosman 22 director of re search of the socony vacuum oil company in a talk on petroleum last evening drifting snow of day-long blizzard causes scenes of beauty and inconvenience on campus the strength of the wind that piled up drifts as deep as 5 feet at various spots on the campus is illustrated above with a shot of the flaky white substance drifted right up to a side entrance of the packer memorial chapel this car owned by a theta delta chi was practically snowed under in its own backyard evidently the orthodox snowfall was aided and abetted in
