robert cohen associate dean of stu dents and university case officer has said he will request that an upcoming disciplinary hearing against kappa sigma fraternity be closed to the public the hearing originally set for this afternoon has been postponed until nov 23 the fraternity has been charged with sexual harassment and with inflicting emotional distress stemming from an alleged incident at the house on sept 17 i will ask that it be closed on the grounds that an open hearing would adversely affect the reputation of the student bringing the complaint he said the law of the campus allows for the closing of a hearing in cases where an open hearing would substantially unfairly and adversely affect the repu tation of the student closing a hearing requires a unanimous vote of the hearing panel this decision to open it the hearing will be made at the opening of the hear ing cohen said if one side wants it closed and the other side wants it open the committee is bound to hear opposing arguments it seems unlikely that a deci sion will be made before the thing starts he said explaining why it was postponed cohen said the hearing was put off by mutual agreement oflhe case officer and the attorney for the house it will give each of the sides more time he said doug paul 83 president of kappa sigma acknowledged that kappa sig ma's lawyer wants to be present at the hearing although cohen noted that law yers have not been allowed to attend hearings in the past according to the law ol the campus defendants are allowed to have a uni versity friend " present at hearings and that the university friend must be a member of the university community concerning the precedent of excluding attorneys paul noted that's what it says in the handbook the lehigh hand book but emphasized that he thought the u.s constitution gives kappa sigma the right to have their lawyer on hand see hearing page 5 preventive measures taken for lafayette game behavior " quay said he cited past problems such as people running onto the field before the end of the game the destruction of the goal posts before the end of the game the mutilation of lafayette's new wire fence two years ago and assaults on lafayette students the rules in effect have not changed since the last game at lafayette they prohibit alcoholic beverages in fisher field disorderly conduct which includes throwing objects onto the field running onto the field destroying the goal posts before the end of the game fist fighting and any other rowdy behav ior which interferes with the game or by teresa kilcullen preparation for the prevention of prob lems during the lehigh-lafayette foot ball game on nov 22 has already begun on both campuses according to herm kissiah dean of students at lafayette college and william quay dean of stu dents at lehigh administration and student leaders from the two schools have been meeting in order to communicate their expecta tions kissiah said we will be prepared for problems but don't expect any we're pretty confident that the stu dents will go over and enjoy the game without getting involved in any rowdy also be on the field to take pictures of those who violate any of the rules viola tors will be removed from the stadium and turned over to their respective disci pline committees which will be hard on them and their living group quay said students violating the rules could possi creedon the interfraternity council ifc has circulated a petition asking fcr changes in the university's social regulations and plans to present them to university pres ident peter likins within the next few weeks according to joe baker 83 ifc social chairman baker cited a negative response by forum xiii to the changes as the reason for the petition since we received a negative response from the forum we thought that we would try the student route baker said the petition has been distributed to fraternity presidents and the results will be reviewed at an executive committee meeting of the ifc this friday baker said he added that at that time a deci sion would be made as to when to present them to likins the petition calls for three changes an extension of party hours until 3 a.m the campus news service at a recent national meeting the fea recommended that sororities are the proper outlet for female asso ciation according to the report according to larry philippi assist ant to the dean of students in charge of fraternity and sorority affairs the university doesn't have enough sor orities to accommodate all the women who would like to join them as a result many women choose to join little-sister organizations to make association raps program little sisters detrimental see little-sister page 5 friends with both men and women he said there are presently 11 fraternities on campus that have little-sister pro grams the number of little sisters varies from house to house ranging from seven at tau epsilon phi to 37 at beta theta pi there is an approxi mate total of 170 little sisters little-sister groups are a good way to expand the ways that women can come together assistant dean of students muriel whitcomb said but i'd also like to see other support func tions for women no two little-sister programs are alike some houses have a more for mal program where the little sisters have responsibilities and obligations to the house some have informal pledge programs and
