its former occupants the delta tau delta frater versity's other fraternity-housed men university implements revised social code by nicholas king following increased violence crimi nal acts and disturbances on campus the university has instituted sweeping changes in social regulations in order to strike the proper balance between the academic and the social life on campus according to an administration report the changes include the limitation of organizations to three open parties per semester the restriction of weekday pub nights and the cancellation of greek week in addition a fund of 112,000 has been appropriated by the university to clubs and organizations in order to enhance and initiate alternative univer sity social offerings assistant to the dean of students larry philippi explained that the grow ing reports of student harassment assaults and disorderly conduct the alleged rape of a former muhlenberg stu dent and the serious difficulties encoun tered during greek week convinced the administration that the present social environment was too conducive to these problems and thus necessitated change as a result six task forces were appointed by university vice president and provost arthur humphrey in early summer to consider ways to prevent the recurrence of those events which trans pired during the 1981 spring semester upon completion in july their recom mendations were sent to president lewis and the board of trustees for approval and implementation a repre sentative group of trustees approved the regulations august 15 the regulations themselves confine virtually all parties or social gatherings in which alcoholic beverages are served to friday and saturday nights prohibit parties before eight p.m or after two a.m at two a.m the band or music must stop and the bar must close all parties must be registered with the dean of stu dents office by two p.m the monday before the event each living group fra ternity sorority or club may have only three open " parties per semester at which lehigh i.d.s are required for admittance guests must be escorted by lehigh students who thereby assume all responsibility for the visitors there is no limit on the number of closed parties a group may hold but invited guests to these parties must not exceed two times the sponsoring group's membership weeknight social activi ties pub nights rush functions etc are limited to two-hour serving periods of only wine or beer terminating by mid night total guests attending a week night social activity may not exceed 40 students may have missed top seats people these parties must be registered 48 hours prior to the event and sponsor ing organizations are permitted only one weeknight social activity per week non alcoholic events need not be registered but the dean of students office must be notified of large events other regulations and procedures state that at all events at which alco holic beverages are served non alcoholic beverages and food i.e munchies must be visible equally accessible and equally attractive also the serving of alcoholic beverages to those intoxicated is prohibited and the failure of persons to leave a party when asked to by the sponsoring group ' ' or by a university representative consti tutes a violation of the social code according to william quay dean of students the focuses of the new regula tions are clear the
