faculty and staff members today associate professors named to full professorships include dr keith e chave geology who also is director of the marine science center donald j hillman head of the philosophy department george e kanje industrial engineering and dr arthur i larky electrical engineering also named were dr joseph a maurer head of the classical languages department sutton monro industrial engineering dr joseph teno electrical engineer ing dr robert c williamson sociology who is also head of the division of social relations and james d mack head librarian mack and dr maurer will as sume their new ranks july 1 and the other full professorships will be effective sept 1 advanced from assistant profes sor to associate professor are dr a james diefenderfer depart ment of chemistry dr james r frakes and dr david m greene both department of english dr john m haight history and dr john a hertz director of adult education for the university eng lish also named were two university band concerts on campus this week the varsity band will hold its annual outdoor spring concert at 7:15 p.m tonight in the taylor hall quadrangle and the concert band will hold its annual pops concert at 8:15 p.m saturday the varsity band concert will be highlighted by selections from v the works of sousa gluck hadley and lecoq fanfare for band by ted may 65 will be perform ed ricbard franko goldman com poser will be guest conductor at the pops concert j lee jagers 64 will be student conductor two works by lehigh compos ers will be performed for the first time on saturday successor gallaaher new dean dr robert t gallagher a mem ber of the lehigh university faculty since 1942 has been ap pointed associate dean of the uni versity's college of engineering the appointment will be effective july 1 1964 dr gallagher served as head of the former department of mining engineering at lehigh from 1951 to 1963 presently the assistant direc tor of the university's materials research center he will succeed professor charles w brennan who will become lehigh's dean of stu dents on july 1 dr gallagher graduated with a bachelor of science degree in min ing engineering from pennsylvania state university he received his master of arts degree from the university of missouri and a doc tor of mining engineering degree from the colorado school of mines prior to joining the lehigh fac ulty dr gallagher was employed hy the coal division of the beth lehem steel company served as instructor of mining engineering at penn state was missouri man ager for fraternity management inc and taught mining engineer ing at the colorado school of mines a specialist in mining engineer ing and engineering geophysics dr gallagher has undertaken ex tensive work as a consultant to industry and while a member of the lehigh faculty has conducted sponsored research related to min ing activities dr robert t gallagher three to be honored at lehigh graduation dr james a perkins doctorate in political science from princeton university in 1937 di perkins is a member of the 12-man general advisory com mittee of the united states arms control and disarmament agency and of a associate dean of students and director of residence halls described the situation as really getting out of hand campbell warned that someone is going to have to do something about it v rodger digilio president of arcadia xviii announced that he and geoffrey stiles president of the gryphon society planned to meet with city police this week to discuss the matter meanwhile digilio urged students not to venture downtown at night without at least one other person along three of the incidents took place at fourth and new streets and the fourth at broadway and carlton avenue the near-stabbing took place after a richards house freshman claimed to have been attacked by a husky assailant about midnight friday the freshman said that a carload of teenagers pulled up beside him at the corner of broadway and carlton after the occupants of the car had insulted him one of the youths got out of the car and attacked him with a knife the knife ripped his shirt and undershirt but did not cut him the freshman said that he then ran into the bushes and hid while the youths looked for him when the search proved unsuccessful the youths left the scene and the freshman hailed a cab and returned to campus he described the youth who attempted to cut him as older than the others swarthy and wearing a t-shirt the three attacks at fourth and new reportedly took place early sunday morning a park house freshman reported to his gryphon that he was at tacked by five or six youths as he and a friend were returning to their dorm about 1 a.m he added that he was punched in the mouth when he did not answer questions which the youths asked him after the attack the youths fled in the second sunday morning incident three richards house freshmen reported that they were attacked by about seven youths according to the freshmen's gry phon the three were insulted by a trio standing in a drug store doorway immediately afterward two youths advanced on the freshmen from the front and two others closed
