1984 assets of the fund will be given to the university as the class gift use of the funds will be determined at the time by the con tributing members the gift committee noted at the kickoff dinner that more than 100 seniors had already pledged con tributions to the program this number includes all senior mem bers of the gryphon society shares plan for its 20-year pro gram this was selected in pre ference to an insurance plan be cause of its superior potential yield subscribers to the program will contribute 20 or more to the fund each year the payments will be invested in the dreyfuss fund inc a mutual fund aimed at securing long term capital growth all dividends and capital gains must be reinvested in the fund and accumulated over the 20-year arcadia seeks changes in two university rules saturday will mark the first of this year's two fraternity open house sessions for freshmen the purpose of the sessions in their second year as part of the university's ever-changing rushing policies is to allow the freshmen to visit the fraternities and mix freely with the brothers to get a more accurate picture of fraternity life this saturday will be devoted to visiting the town houses town houses include all houses off campus plus delta upsilon and psi upsi lon freshmen will be required to visit five cf those the following saturday december 14 will be for visiting the hill houses freshmen must visit six of the twenty houses on the hill both saturday sessions will last from 1 to 5 p.m fuses will be employed to provide transportation both to and from the town houses beginning at 1 p.m the buses will leave at 15 minute intervals from the parking lot to the west of taylor house after making rounds of the town houses the buses will return to campus time-schedules will be posted in each freshman section and in the university center open house cards have been provided to the freshmen th cards must be signed by each fraternity visited and turned in at the student activities office by 4 p.m december 16 these cards will serve as proof that the freshman has visited the required number of houses failure of a freshman to comply with the above requirements will result in the ineligibility of the freshman to receive or accept any bid during the spring semester of 1964 absences on open house days must be individually cleared with the ifc rushing committee by the freshman involved refreshments may be served by the fraternities but alcoholic beverages will be prohibited rabbi named to lead conference on religion beta kappa in 1943 he was or dained at the jewish theological seminary underscoring past financial suc cess and cooperation robert hess president of the class of 1964 last night initiated the class memorial gift program by urging continued support of the class and the uni versity speaking at the kickoff dinner hess noted that benefits students receive from lehigh are provided by past graduates who express thanks to the university through alumni programs now as we prepare to leave lehigh university we must be ready to share the responsibility of providing increased opportu nities for future students so they may follow in our footsteps hess said hess pointed to class success in sponsoring social events under scored by the fact that the seniors have a larger sum in their treasury than any other lehigh class when we consider our contri butions to lehigh hess said we must also realize what the univer sity has done for each of us with 140,000 as its goal the class has adopted the mutual the students rights commis sion of arcadia agreed wednesday night to meet with president har vey a neville to discuss possible changes in two university rules the student government is en dorsing a proposal that would grant a student accused of a breach of discipline a hearing before any disciplinary action is taken against him arcadia also questions the rule which gives the university final say as to who may speak on cam pus a resolution passed by arca dia in may 1963 suggests that students be granted the final say in choice of speakers in other business gerald fefferl 64 reported that james farmer national director of the congress of racial equality will speak on campus some time next semester the date has not yet been fixed arcadia voted to make the suc cessful freshmen life committee a permanent standing committee the houseparty judiciary com mittee reported that there were only three violations during the weekend because of their excel lent service members of the com mittee are asked to serve again next year michael reich 64 president of arcadia announced that he had spoken with president neville and several of the deans about exten sion of library hours although no decision has been made reich said the effort may have some definite results the problem of publicizing ar cadia's activities to the student body was stressed at the meeting several suggestions were mention ed incuding holding open meet see arcadia dace 6 rabbi arthur hertzberg spiri tual leader of temple emanu-el of englewood n j will head the 27th conference on religion spon sored by the interfaith council * monday and tuesday r^.bbi hertzberg will osbourne room at noon the same day the rabbi also will be available for individual conferences and classroom lectures during his two day stay on campus rabbi hertzberg is co-author of the book the education explained that the principal difficulties in interviewing lie in the lack c fme available and the unpredictability of those being interviewed it is ve/y important he told a small group in the faculty lounge to take the measure of the person being interviewed before . . . making final plans he went on to explain that some people are afraid of television and that others tend to digress from their subject before a camera for this reason said mcandrew it is wrong to decide inflexibly ahead of time . . . what you are going to do in a reply to a question about the editing of tape he pointed out that 65 minutes of material cannot be edited down to 26 without some points of an in terview being lost at the same time he noted you do get rid of profitless digressions asked about bloopers on the air he expressed a simple philosophy it comes and you simply move along mcandrew said that there should be a new defini tion of education with respect to television there is great advantage in using television for education because it can reach more people supplementing teachers at the same time he said educators must be educated to the fact that television is an im portant
