bach festival to begin this afternoon final game at easton tomorrow vol xxvil no 58 tennis team scores a complete victory c.c.n.y succumbs to nine's attack price five cents lafayette for second time suc cumbs to team's attack by 6=o score many powerful soloists to favor audience in largest festival held in packer chapel brown and white nine has shown improvement wilson looks well behind plate wierd fielding and heavy hitting enable lehigh to corner game in fourth locke elected captain for next year macgowan holds new javelin record baltimore to be scene of final struggle for southern division lacrosse honors hope to win score 11=5 johnson again probable choice carney or moyer for lafayette to oppose team wilson and savaria share batting honors lees holds visitors to single tally in a loosely played game lehigh defeated the baseball team of city college of new york last wednes day afternoon on taylor field the final score was 11-5 lehigh had one big inning the fourth when six runs were scored enough to win the game city college made four runs in the eighth on several hits and some wierd infield ing by the home team lees started the game for lehigh and pitched six innings holding his opponents to one run during his stay on the mound light finished the game and pitched fairly good ball but received poor support a number of substitutes were sent in at the beginning of the seventh with the brown and white ten runs to the good wilson did some good work be hind the bat and in addition drove out a home run and a single sa varia got three hits one a triple for the visitors kinnsky did the best hitting with three singles city college got two men on in the first by means of a single and an error but they were left stranded lehigh went out in order in the first but scored once in the second when wilson hit a home run city college tied up in the third by means of a hit a sacri fice and a double continued on third page phi delts win fraternity basketball championship in looking over the comparative scores of the track team for the 1.920 season it may be seen that the tiara has made a marked improve ment over the scores of last year the things to be considered in this comparison are that the colleges have again gotten back to normal pre-war conditions and that better intercollegiate meets were held this year than for many years past in consideration of these two things it will be seen that lehigh is again beginning to assert itself upon the cinder path beginning the season with quite a batch of new material the brown and white men proceeded to take the first meet from muhlenberg this to be sure was their only vic tory in view of points scored for the entire year the lehigh run ners made a good appearance in this meet and amid adverse weather conditions scored 59 to their op ponents 50 points with this as a beginner the lehigh men next tackled n y u and were defeated by a 61 to 51 score following this perm state with one of the strongest teams in the east de livered an 81 to 31 defeat rutgers did likewise to the score of 66 to 22 in the middle states however lehigh scored a victory by tallying 11 points and taking sixth place in the meet this was a decided im provement over last year's score when lehigh made but one point in this meet herrington won first place in the high jump with a 5 ft 10 in jump this same man also tied for second place in his event in the perm relays the last two meets were also lost the first one lafayette took by a 78 to 34 score while the navy.cap tured the last with 102 points to our 23 continue on third page faculty dramatic club scores in first show the lehigh team going down to easton tomorrow has lost the series but is not a vanquished team in more than one sense of the word the old fight was shown in the game with c c n v on wed nesday and with a smooth playing combination the odds are not against a victory tierney the lafayette pitcher who put up such a masterly ex hibition last saturday may be in the box again but even so the chances are against his repeating his performance in the third game carney or moyer will more likely be on the mound but the team is confident that the old hemlock will connect this time and that more lehigh men will cross the plate than those of the maroon and white the lehigh line-up is practically unchanged johnson or lees will be in the box and the regular outfield cavorting in the outer gardens with the infield the same as in the past in the game tomorrow lehigh has everything to win and nothing to lose while with lafayette it is quite the opposite they have won twelve straight games two of these from us by not very close scores it would brighten up the campus a great deal to beat lafayette and break their winning streak even if it is only by one game it is not a case of doing the impossible and if it were we could do it the probable line-up : lehigh savaria 2b donovan ss mathag cf ; riebe 2 light 1 foul goals huebner 4 out of 5 light 4 out of 7 score at half time : phi delta theta 3 ; chi psi 3 score at end of game : phi delta theta 10 ; chi psi 6 referee wysocki notice seniors notice - commencement invitations are now ready and may be obtained from j m straub 20 at the phi delta theta house a meeting of the y m c a cabinet was held monday after noon to make plans for next year committee chairmen were appoint ed and plans were made to send delegates to the summer conven tion at silver bay the cabinet decided to defray a part of their expenses of the delegates on wednesday night the faculty dramatic club entertained the stu dent body and townspeople in drown hall with a novel play called the chair of truth this play was dramatized from the long inheritance by mrs john l stewart and charles ruff by far this play was the best which has been presented at le high for several years the acting was very good and the novel staging and lighting effects would be hard to better parke b fraim who coached the play deserves a great deal of credit for all the work that he did under the new plans advocated by the leaders of the little theatre movement the stage was cut off diagonally by a curtain so that a little more than half was used at one time the other half was prepared in advance for the next scene and by changing the curtain over during a few seconds of absolute darkness the play was resumed with practically no inter ruption continued on fourth page the lighting effects were attained without use of dirop lights or foot lights by means of wall lights next saturday afternoon the brown and white lacrosse warriors will meet the johns hopkins team at baltimore to decide the inter collegiate lacrosse championship of the southern division both teams are in the very best of condition and there is no question but what the game will be hard fought throughout although the lehigh men will be slightly handicapped playing away from home the two teams are evenly matched and the brown and white stick wielders have an excellent chance of defeat ing their opponents the team winning the game to morrow will win the intercollegiate lacrosse championship of the southern division and will have the privilege of challenging the winning team of the northern di vision for the intercollegiate la crosse championship of th united states syracuse will probably be the winner of the northern di vision championship so that if the brown and white aggregation de feats johns hopkins tomorrow they should have little trouble in winning the championship of the united states as they have already defeated the orange men by a score of 4 to 1 the johns hopkins team will enter the game tomorrow with a clean record having won every game played so far this season the black and gold men defeated the university of pennsylvania team by a score of 13 to 5 the swarthmore lacrosse men by a score of 12 to 0 and the stevens men by a score of 6to 0 the le high lacrosse team has also won every league game played so far having defeated perm by a score of 12 to 3 ; swarthmore by a score of 6 to 0 and stevens by a score of sto 1 by the comparison of these scores it looks as though the johns hopkins team had somewhat the advantage over the brown and white men but it must be remem bered that comparative scores count for little in a game between two such evenly matched teams as will compete for the championship tomorrow afternoon the lehigh lacrosse men are in excellent condition and will be able to put up their best game against the black and gold men tomorrow maurer who has been out of the game on account of a sprained ankle will be back on the job to morrow as will spanagel who sprained his angle in practice dur ing the early part of the week straub jennes and ne&slebush can also be counted on to play their usual good game for the brown and white the line-up will be as follows : lehigh : spanagel g ;
