others was the key note of the inspirational address delivered yesterday by judge harold b wells of borden town n j at the college lec ture held in the university chapel the services of judge wells as a speaker were secured through his friendship with bosey reiter since the two men were college friends there are two words he said which in my earlier days i thought synonomous money and success since then i have changed my ideas about them it is a mistake too frequently made by young men who fail to take account of the actual cost of making money for as he said money won't buy love respect decency happiness friendship or character the speaker then expounded his doctrine of aims in life and ways to success success is not a matter of innate talent but is merely the fruit of thoroughness in the performance of daily tasks — according to chauncey depew it is dig dig dig ac cording to edison not inspira tion but perspiration thus george w childs and john d rockefeller both penniless lads achieved success kind not spe cified through incessant intel ligent labor college men would do well to follow their example and not insist upon positions paying 10,000 a year at the start the speaker embellished his argument with an apt quo tation from edgar guest the success of most great men nalopeon webster cool idge is all due to the tireless energy with which they per formed their tasks coupled with the steadfast holding to high principles the moral pre cepts and christian virtues with which everyone is familiar and without which the best in life cannot be attained general grant's greatness as a general was due to the fact that he was licked five times and hadn't the sense to know it yet working for ourselves is not the true end of existence only by living for others work ing helping cheering onward by voice and look and deed do we reach the full life he who adds to the gloom is unworthy there is joy in the world piles of it let us go out and gather it in for ourselves and for others for as the speaker expressed it he was still old-fashioned enough to believe in the homely virtues that everyone should strive to make the world a bet ter place to live in and that virtue is its own reward and he urged the audience to do like wise lehigh university bethlehem pa friday february 17 1928 bosey reiter goes south for health vol xxxv no 31 brown and white okeson will resign others was the key note of the inspirational address delivered yesterday by judge harold b wells of borden town n j at the college lec ture held in the university chapel the services of judge wells as a speaker were secured through his friendship with bosey reiter since the two men were college friends there are two words he said which in my earlier days i thought synonomous money and success since then i have changed my ideas about them it is a mistake too frequently made by young men who fail to take account of the actual cost of making money for as he said money won't buy love respect decency happiness friendship or character the speaker then expounded his doctrine of aims in life and ways to success success is not a matter of innate talent but is merely the fruit of thoroughness in the performance of daily tasks — according to chauncey depew it is dig dig dig ac cording to edison not inspira tion but perspiration thus george w childs and john d rockefeller both penniless lads achieved success kind not spe cified through incessant intel ligent labor college men would do well to follow their example and not insist upon positions paying 10,000 a year at the start the speaker embellished his argument with an apt quo tation from edgar guest the success of most great men nalopeon webster cool idge is all due to the tireless energy with which they per formed their tasks coupled with the steadfast holding to high principles the moral pre cepts and christian virtues with which everyone is familiar and without which the best in life cannot be attained general grant's greatness as a general was due to the fact that he was licked five times and hadn't the sense to know it yet working for ourselves is not the true end of existence only by living for others work ing helping cheering onward by voice and look and deed do we reach the full life he who adds to the gloom is unworthy there is joy in the world piles of it let us go out and gather it in for ourselves and for others for as the speaker expressed it he was still old-fashioned enough to believe in the homely virtues that everyone should strive to make the world a bet ter place to live in and that virtue is its own reward and he urged the audience to do like wise lehigh university bethlehem pa friday february 17 1928 bosey reiter goes south for health vol xxxv no 31 brown and white okeson will resign
