although outplayed during the first half of the game with bucknell saturday lehigh's brown and white clad war riors came back with a rush in the latter part of the contest to push back the bisons and hold the score to 20 to 6 while it is true that the visitors won the south mountain boys are to be given a good deal of cred it for stemming the charges of the bucknell eleven many foot ball dope experts because of the fine showing the lewisburg team has made this season had predicted an overwhelming vic tory for bucknell's thundering herd ttre game was played in a sea of mud which soon cover ed the players from head to foot the slippery condition of the field made the ball hard to handle and the number of aer ial passes were few bucknell had the heavier team and con sequently had the advantage nevertheless gains through the the american red cross will observe its annual so called roll call on armistice day this coming friday the red cross is one organization which every american citizen should support because no one knows when he may heed the assistance which it stands ready to render in time of dire need thus during the past twelve months the extraordinary value of the organization to the country has been demonstrated in connection with the relief for the victims of the mississippi river flood and of the tornado that devastated st louis last year the university answered the roll call six hun dred strong to such an or ganization as the red cross in which everyone should be inter ested this was only a fair re sponse the red cross is the only organization outside of the university that is permitted to solicit funds among the stu dents the faculty however lehigh line were small buck nell's main form of attack was by end runs in the first half bucknell ad vanced the ball steadily cap tain diehl was the main cog in the bison's machine lehigh was hardly able to get posses sion of the ball and no first downs were scored by the brown and white the second half was another matter how ever for the lehigh eleven showed a fighting spirit that was too much for bucknell's second team when the first team was entered into the con test again it was cheese in charge of fall productions was gratified friday night when in response to its request 25 men presented themselves at a meeting of the club and signified their interest in fall dramatics these aspir ants were all given dramatic ex cerpts to read so that the judges might ascertain the vol ume and nature of their voices each competitor gave his inter pretation of a character and in that way his ability to act was exposed to the consideration of the judges prof h g pfan der j a kiep and h m adams all indications of tal ent and experience as well as general impressions were re corded by those judging from these notes were obtained the names of those who were ask ed yesterday to present them selves for the preliminary try outs of those whose names did not appear on the list for furth er try-outs several were re jected because suitable parts could not be found for them in any of the four plays the mus tard and cheese club is pre paring on the night of december 16th the club to meet this thursday frosh wrestling was started last week when coach billy sheridan had a good-sized group of men report for practice the candidates are going through conditioning exercises and working out on the mat four times a week none of the men have had any experience as grapplers but billy claims that this is no drawback be cause green men will pay closer attention to a coach and learn his methods more rapidly than a man of previous experience the first two weeks of prac tice will be devoted entirely to instruction in fundamental holds and breaks of the game jones last year's yearling cap tain and several other mem bers of the squad have been helping the coach train the pro spective matmen the majority of the candidates are for the lighter weights but some prom ising material for the heavy classes is expected to he out when the frosh football season terminates coach sheridan is planning to have an open meet for all weights the saturday before school closes for christ mas and to pick his first string men from those who make the best showing ward wiegand frosh wrestl ing manager is arranging the schedule which he will announce when it has been completed and passed by the board of control of athletics in urging men to come out the coach stresses three points first every one has an equal chance as all the men are in experienced ; second a stocky physical build is not necessary tall thin fellows are often bet ter wrestlers than short heavy ones ; and third no one is ever cut from coach sheridan's squad lehigh harriers win over rivals there will be a meeting of omicron delta kappa at the a t o house next thursday night at six o'clock three new members will be initiated at this time b l snavely ken ton chickering and j c mor rison the fraternity will also discuss methods for working up pep and spirit for the lafay ette game alpha kappa psi the honor ary business fraternity at le high convened at six o'clock last thursday night at the chi psi lodge after dinner pres ident helmstaedter presided at the regular meeting the question of expanding the membership of the society was discussed dr carothers sug gested that before any definite action be taken the officers should get the opinion of the dean and other authorities on this question this will be clone before the next meeting and will again be brought up dr carothers also announced that he has procured a bulletin board in christmas-saucon hall for the use of the society and that it will be ready in the near future after this a very excellent paper on accounting was given by one of the members stuart b mead mr mead told of the advancement of the science of accounting in the last genera tion and of what importance accounting is to the business man he also tried to impress upon his listeners the fact that there is an extremely large field for accountants and that good accountants are always in very great demand in the bus iness world this was follow ed by a general discussion on the importance of accounting in the business field in relation to this subject dr carothers explained exactly how the large accounting firms carry on their business thirteen student members and two faculty members at tended the meeting the two faculty members were dr car i others the faculty adviser of the society and assistant dean curtis it was decided that the society would continue to have their meetings every third week but on account of thanksgiving breaking in the next meeting will be held on de cember first at the theta delta chi house • hill and dalers defeat rutgers and lafayette in triangular meet selection of paintings here calendar in memorial building works of contemporary artists by the time the band jour neys to rutgers for the football game on saturday it will wear hats as part of the regular band uniform these hats were secured thru the efforts of mr shields the band instructor and mr fox the manager a few years ago hats were part of the band uni form however the members disliked them and they were discarded the hats secured now are white in color with a brown l placed in the front lately many opinions were voiced saying that hats would add very much to the appear ance of the band following these opinions and suggestions mr shields and mr fox se cured them they expect enough hats for all members of the band to be here this week at west point n v last wednesday coach carpenter's soccer team was defeated by the army team by a score of 3-0 in the first quarter lehigh un mistakably outplayed the hud son team but was unable un fortunately to make the neces sary final drive into the goal several times when it had the opportunity in the succeeding quarters oakes the star center forward of the army team made a point each period ■the fact that the field at west point does not conform to the regula tions in that it is narrower than the standard field may have had something to do with le high's inability to score the spirit of the brown and white team was characterized by its hard fighting throughout the game palm played an excep tionally fine game for lehigh while oakes appeared extremely well for the blue and gray team continued on page two in a hard and well-fought contest at haverford last sat urday afternoon the lehigh soccer team was defeated by a score of 4-0 the team played observatory now open to visitors burr competition progressing well the brown and white year lings defeated a fighting f and m freshman team by the score of 9to 7 last saturday it was a hotly contested game and the boys from lancaster gave the lehigh frosh the hardest fight of the season when the f and m eleven scored in the first quarter the prospect of keeping the string of victories intact looked rather doubtful and in the last quarter when austy's men seemed power less to stop a strong offensive attack the outcome of the game seemed very uncertain • coach tate put in the sec ond team backfield to start against f and m in the first quarter lehigh received the kick-off on her own thirty-yard line and from this point ad vanced the ball forty yards gaining three first downs the brown and white team was then forced to kick but the lancaster boys failed to gain when they had the ball in their possession and returned the punt jones fumbled the kick on lehigh's thirty-yard line and johnson the star f and m yearling back recovered the ball lehigh's opponents again failed to gain ground and kick ed lamb received the punt and in trying to dodge the f and m men he was thrown for a loss jones again fumbled on the next play and johnson broke through recovered the fumble and ran for a touch down johnson then kicked the point after goal and gave his team a lead of seven points over lehigh for the rest of the the ball was for quarter continued on page three lehigh is already becoming excited about the forthcoming lehigh-lafayette football game plans are being made in all di rections and many alumni are expected back the football team is being primed for this all important grand finale all other games seem to fade into insignificance when the shadow of this game into which is put every speck of age-old rivalry comes upon lehigh it is interesting to see what mrs catherine drinker bowen has to say about the lehigh lafayette game in her history of lehigh university the following is an extfact of course the important event of the fall term is the lafayette football game the evening before the fatal con flict everyone congregates in the gymnasium for a smoker speeches are made by faculty student and coach enjoining the bleachers to help the team beat lafayette ; cheers are given and much tobacco consumed boxing and wrestling matches are stag ed the smoker at lehigh was designed originally as a winter gymnasium meet later on smokers held by the different collegiate departments were very popular more lately one has been held before every im portant athletic contest the athletic field on the af ternoon of the lafayette game js a magnificent sight a throng of fifteen thousand people pours in through the upper and lower archways of the field and tran forms the high bleak walls of the stadium into a gorgeous semi-circle of color life and movement the brass bands the cheers and songs the meet continued on page three juniors the picture of the junior class will be taken tomorrow at twelve o'clock on the mem orial building steps clear or cloudy all members of the class of 29 are urged to ar rive promptly the entire staff of the le high burr is busy preparing material for the next issue of the magazine the art board this year is especially good and it expects to have some very good drawings in next month's number in an effort to give the best possible results the managing staff is busy getting jokes etc with the result that devote more room to pictures a larger number of editors to the monthly issues will be big ger than before the semi-weekly meeting of the staff will be held tomorrow evening in the burr room in drown hall last friday evening the com petitors made their reports to the board which held a short meeting that evening the competition is going on very well with several of the con testants doing very good work meeting there will be a meeting of the alexander hamilton club next monday evening mr schultz new member of the history faculty will ad dress the meeting today saw the opening of the exhibition of painting in the faculty room of the alumni memorial building the paint ings are the work of contem porary american artists and are loaned through the courtesy of the american federation of arts they are a selection from the 1925 winter exhibition of the national academy of de sign the exhibition will continue until november 19 and will be available to the students the faculty and to the public the faculty room will be open dur ing the folloving periods : mon day to friday 4:00 to 6:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p m irieet between the three schools the course covered was that of woodland farm and was approximately five and one-third miles long the meet was run off last sat urday afternoon three lehigh men were the first to finish having run the course in the fast time of 26 minutes 33 2-5 seconds the new record thereby established surpasses that of last year by 33 1-3 seconds as set by aitken sames and originally as a winter gymnasium meet later on smokers held by the different collegiate departments were very popular more lately one has been held before every im portant athletic contest the athletic field on the af ternoon of the lafayette game js a magnificent sight a throng of fifteen thousand people pours in through the upper and lower archways of the field and tran forms the high bleak walls of the stadium into a gorgeous semi-circle of color life and movement the brass bands the cheers and songs the meet continued on page three juniors the picture of the junior class will be taken tomorrow at twelve o'clock on the mem orial building steps clear or cloudy all members of the class of 29 are urged to ar rive promptly the entire staff of the le high burr is busy preparing material for the next issue of the magazine the art board this year is especially good and it expects to have some very good drawings in next month's number in an effort to give the best possible results the managing staff is busy getting jokes etc with the result that devote more room to pictures a larger number of editors to the monthly issues will be big ger than before the semi-weekly meeting of the staff will be held tomorrow evening in the burr room in drown hall last friday evening the com petitors made their reports to the board which held a short meeting that evening the competition is going on very well with several of the con testants doing very good work meeting there will be a meeting of the alexander hamilton club next monday evening mr schultz new member of the history faculty will ad dress the meeting today saw the opening of the exhibition of painting in the faculty room of the alumni memorial building the paint ings are the work of contem porary american artists and are loaned through the courtesy of the american federation of arts they are a selection from the 1925 winter exhibition of the national academy of de sign the exhibition will continue until november 19 and will be available to the students the faculty and to the public the faculty room will be open dur ing the folloving periods : mon day to friday 4:00 to 6:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p m visitors came to see the planet jupiter and were rewarded with not only an ex cellent view of the planet itself but also of four of its moons invisible to the naked eye to night's object is as yet uncer tain falling before the strides of the lehigh harriers for the second successive season rut gers and lafayette cross-coun try teams scored 35 and 65 points respectively in the an nual triangular irieet between the three schools the course covered was that of woodland farm and was approximately five and one-third miles long the meet was run off last sat urday afternoon three lehigh men were the first to finish having run the course in the fast time of 26 minutes 33 2-5 seconds the new record thereby established surpasses that of last year by 33 1-3 seconds as set by aitken sames and aitken came in closely followed by captain chickering the total lehigh score was 20 low score win ning five men from each school placed lange placing sixth and laird eighth the men finished as follows
