concerning the time of next year's production the competition for scenar ios and lyrics was opened any man who has any ability at writing or in music who cares to enter either of these com petitions will meet with the ex ecutive committee on tuesday afternoon at four o'clock in drown hall no qualifications are necessary except a small amount of ability and a willing ness to work president ridsdale called t<f the attention of the club that next year was a crucial year for the club and that if it was to continue in the policy of musical comedies a great deal of work and the cooperation of every member of the club would be demanded he spoke of the work done by the retiring exec utive committee and commend ed them on their work in put ting on one of the best if not the best productions that mus tard and cheese has ever pre sented in its forty-three years on the lehigh campus the officers which were elect ed to govern mustard and cheese for the coming year were as follows president w j scarlett vice : president j w mckinnon secretary t m brennan continued on page four t evenly matched rain causes game to be called in seventh . inning the traditional moving-up day ceremonies will be featured between the halves of the ste vens lacrosse game tomorrow afternoon although newly in stituted last year the custom proved popular and a commit tee of seniors has been hard at work trying to make the ceremonies one of the outstand ing lehigh traditions the seniors are supposed to carry canes and wear brown and white yachting caps this week the plans also call for the sophomores to wear brown artists ties and to go coatless and beginning monday and con tinuing all week the frosh have been cutting a section out of their dinks each day the committee in charge desires a greater participation from the seniors and sophs in wearing their respective caps and ties — cooperation in this respect has not been as great as had been hoped for the passing of the tradi tional senior canes to the jun iors beginning with the senior and junior class presidents is the limit of the upper class par ticipation in the exercises for the frosh and sophs further ac tivities are planned the frosh will run the gauntlet of the sophomore class after which the dinks will be piled to gether and burned and the freshmen will be given pipes to begin smoking on the campus the idea of this last class rush is not to rough-house the freshmen but is merely sym bolic of the passing from frosh regulations and a number of seniors will be present to in sure the limitation of rough ness nevertheless freshman attendance is compulsory and attendance will be taken by the sophomores who will enforce a penalty for absence faculty club presents play lehigh's baseball team will attempt to make it two straight this saturday afternoon when it engages the dickinson col lege nine the game will be played in the taylor stadium and will start at 2.30 the brown and white aggregation hit its stride last saturday against franklin and marshall and as dickinson is not strong this year a victory is looked for by the home team's adher ents the dickinson team did not begin its season any more aus piciously than lehigh for in it's first game they were de feated by perm state 7 to 1 they were held to five scratch hits by the state ace page and he fanned fourteen of them the games with bucknell and franklin and marshall were called off because of inclement weather last saturday they defeated bushwick five to one but the latter is very weak this year the team's playing has been characterized by good fielding and it can hold its own along this line the hitting strength of the maclets has been puny all sea son and little improvement has been shown since the opening game with state their two best pitchers garrison and ev erhard are fair and if ever hard is not used in the box he will probably occupy the out field because of his hitting abil ity red and white can be counted on for a good fast fielding team but one that is weak with the stick continued on page three the lehigh team that was beaten by muhlenberg 15 to 5 was a very different team from that which trimmed franklin and marshall last saturday 11 to 4 the game with princeton could not be played because of bad weather and the southern lacrosse matches begin weknesday three act play to be first production in two years confirmation of the rumor which has been afloat about the campus during the last three weeks concerning the separa tion of the lehigh chapter of the y m c a from the na tional and state bodies was officially confirmed wednesday evening two causes were cited by the v president c k zug jr whose letter in full fol lows may 6th 1927 to the editor of the lehigh brown and white : 4 in matter action being taken on the latter date after a thorough discussion of the matter — everyone present being called upon to state his attitude and reasons it might be well to state that the advis ory board consists of two or three members of the faculty of the alumni of the board of trustees of the university and one member from the student body present at these meet ings and in entire harmony with the situation and the re sults were also the president and dean of the university the action taketf was unani mous it was at the suggestion of the secretary fred trafford that we withdrew from the na tional and state associations continued on page four juniors nominate class officers regular meeting of faculty held the inter-class lacrosse matches for the dravo cup will begin on wednesday the elev enth when the freshmen and the juniors will open the festi vities on the upper field the seniors and sophomores will play on friday two days later and the winners of these two matches will committee on athletics and approved there was a change made in the ruling on regular cuts al ternate regular cuts may be authorized only by petition the lehigh lacrosse team meets the stevens team this saturday afternoon on the up per field it promises to be a closely-contested game as both teams have about the same rec ord to date last year altho the brown and white outfit outplayed the jerseyites the latter succeeded in gaining a victory by a one-point margin it was a hard game the lehigh stick wielders have had several strenouous work-outs this week there will be no absentees from the line-up on account of injuries and the team should be in good physical condition hence no alibis will be offered in case of defeat but there will be no need for alibis as the brown and white team feels sure of victory it was noticeable last week that the defense was the weak factor in the team this weakness has been decidedly strengthened as the result of coaching and practice the line-up will be : g ottey ; p kirkpatrick c p concilio f d phyfe s d raleigh t d buck c burke t a stauffer ; s a zahnow ; f a kittinger o h baker i h bieth at a meeting of the junior class last tuesday the place immediately after the college meeting to be held next tues day may 10 and it is urged that every member be present in a game played for the greater portion in a drizzling rain and which was called at the beginning of the seventh in ning because of a heavy down pour the muhlenberg year lings defeated the lehigh frosh 5-1 on wednesday afternoon the freshmen's defeat may be charged to their inability to hit the opposing pitcher esch enbach who allowed them only two hits in the six innings the game lasted striking out nine men neither team scored in the opening frame but in the sec ond muhlenberg broke into the scoring column when seiple reached first on an error stole second and came home on a two-base hit by penhell le high did not score until the 4th inning when bennett hit safe
