drexel institute easily defeated lehigh has little trouble in winning final game of the season score 48=10 brown and white uses second string men no fouls called on visitors dynan stars the last basketball game of the season was played in taylor gym nasium last saturday afternoon when lehigh easily took a slow and uninteresting game from the drex el institute five by a score of 48 to 10 the visitors secured only three field goals and concentrated most of their efforts to guarding rather than shooting and what few chances they did take at scoring were from near the middle of the floor neither mccarthy nor crichton played and a number of substitutions were made lehigh had everything its own way in the first half which ended with the score 30 to 4 one pe culiar feature of the game was that not a single foul was called on the visitors in the second half the drexel players guarded more closely al though they did not succeed in stop ping the scoring to any great ex tent probasco who was a member of the freshman class of lehigh last year played a good game at center for the visitors while for lehigh dynan was easily the star with eleven field goals to his credit berg who was that in view of the present foreign situation in this country the student-body at the college meeting on friday petition through the office of the senior class presi dent that the lectures for the re mainder of the term be on military subjects intercollegiates next friday and saturday feature wrestling event of the year will be staged at cornell on next friday and saturday the 16th and 17th the lehigh wrestling team will journey to ithaca n v to participate in the intercollegiatewrestlingmeet the teams entered for the meet are pennsylvania,;princeton,]columbia cornell and lehigh lehigh will present a strong ag gregation having lost but two meets and those to pennsylvania state college and cornell the grapplers easily defeated pennsyl vania brown and springfield there were only three falls regis tered against lehigh this season arud kirk in the 115-pound class has won every bout with the excep tion of the pennsylvania meet which ended in a draw jenness gr mcculliugh in the 125-pound class are both good men and the competition is very keen neubert is fast rounding into shape and when the time is called for the 145-pound class he will be in fine form repa in the 135-pound class has teen defeated but once and that by mills of perm state and it was only in the meets with springfield and cornell that parrish in the 158-pound class has been defeated dayton and henderson are both contestants for the 175-pound class although by his fine work in the cornell meet dayton seems to have the odds continued on fifth page juniors hold class meeting at the junior class meeting held immediately after the chapel lec ture last friday nominations for the position of treasurer were made and the preliminary steps were taken on the matter of the class banquet the date of the banquet was announced for march 30 the position of treasurer of the class of 1918 was made vacant by the departure of john platt for the european battle front r m lindsay m e johnson and h g boyd were nominated for the po sition the election for this office will take place wednesday from 9 a.m to 4 p.m in the brown and white room drown hall students interested in ambulance corps meet the latest effect of the war seen at lehigh is the recent agitation caused by several of the undergrad uates leaving to join the different ambulance corps on the european i front the agitation has grown to i such proportions that last sunday a meeting was called in drown hall for all men who are interested in the ambulance work in europe or who are thinking of joining the work over there about twenty men answered the call and although no decisive steps were taken the names of those present were taken for future ref erence glee club rehearsals the glee club will hold rehears als every wednesday and saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m in drown hall it is necessary that every man be present at these times in order to get ready for the concert the latter part of this month grand canyon of arizona subject of college lecture by n h darton government geologist illustrated color effects in the neighborhood of the canyon shown by numerous slides last friday morning mr n h darton a noted geologist at pres ent in the u s geological survey j and who for thirty years has writ ten-numerous papers and magazine articles on geology gave an inter esting illustrated lecture on the grand canyon of arizona ' ' among his extensive collection of slides there were a large number of beautifully colored ones not exag gerating in the least the magnifi cent color effects in the neighbor hood of the canyon his talk was in part as follows : the grand canyon of arizona is one of the most wonderful scenic wonders in the world and in the region of the canyon geology and geography are most beautifully portrayed the canyon is situated in the central southwestern part of the l t nited states and it lies partly in the southwestern corner of utah and partly in the northwestern half of arizona the grand canyon is a deep gash in the earth starting at the intersection of the greene and grand rivers and averaging a half mile in depth and breadth - a branch of the santa fe rail road runs to the very brink of the canyon where there are several ho tels affording every opportunity for tourists to see the magnificent scenic and natural wonders the country in general is a large pla teau with an elevation of some sev en thousand feet while the canyon itself runs through the centev there is a large forest adjoining the canyon and covering the plateau which is one of the largest forest reservations controlled by the gov ernment walking along the level plateau you arrive suddenly at the edge and look down into the enormous chasm fully a mile deep five or ten miles wide and lying as far as the eye can reach to the north and to the west a total length of two hun dred miles ' ' the resort has been made feasi ble by innumerable improvements the santa fe railroad has laid out automobile roads along the brink of the canyon for the convenience of sightseers one can sit on the hotel porch and see the splendor of the surrounding contry for miles the marvelous coloring of the landscape is very marked the continued on fifth page advanced psychology class visits hospital men made acquainted with the methods of the mental clinic at rittersville institution the largest educational institu tion in this neighborhood the homeopathic state hospital for the insane near rittersville was visited last saturday by the seniors who are studying advanced psy chology under professor hughes the superintendent doctor'klopp assured the class of a hearty wel come and arranged a program that made every minute count of the four and one-half hours spent there when the mentally sick or feeble arrive at the hospital the first task is to determine precisely the nature of their ailment hence the class for nearly two hours were first made acquainted with the methods of the mental clinic doc tor hoffman brought in eleven patients typical cases of manic-de pressive epileptic paretic and praecox affection including the katatonic hephrenic and para noidal forms of the latter group particularly interesting was the case of a moral imbecile and es pecially pathetic that of an amiable and refined lady afflicted with sen ility the hearty co-operation of these patients was skillfullysecured by the physician doctor hoffman to whose kindness and wonderful insight the visitors are indebted for the most profitable afternoon those who first enter are kept in a separate various phases of the corps work at a meeting of the men's club of the nativity episco pal church to be held tomorrow evening at eight o'clock in sayre hall the talk will be illustrated with motion pictures the club has invited the student-body of the university to attend the lecture and thus become better acquainted with this unit's work in france sayre hall is located in the rear of the score of 21 to 8 the meet was hotly contested throughout and every bout was won by hard work there being but one fall and this was only gotten after eight minutes and forty-three seconds of the best brand of wrestling ever seen on the home mat in the 115-pound class kirk im mediately took the aggressive and by quick work p ( ut the cornellian to the floor who partly regained his feet only to be clutched by kirk around the knees and pinned to the mat for the remainder of the period thereby winning the decision jenness in the 125-pound class put up the gamest fight seen this season when he met wigsten the intercollegiate champion the first action was taken by jenness who put the ithacan to the floor the champion soon regained his feet ciud turned the tables throwing jenness to the mat . struggling hard the lehigh wrestler broke the hold and got wigsten around the knees putting him down but by quick work the cornellian rolled and landed on top although working his best jenness was un able to break away and was pinned to the mat with both shoulders just seventeen seconds before the end of the period the 135-pound class required two extra three-minute periods neither man taking the aggressive during the first nine minutes repa of lehigh lost the toss but soon worked out and was on top of rey nolds the ithacan broke repa's hold and got a lock on him but by some fine work repa broke loose and regained the top in the sec ond extra period repa kept his man to the floor from the start and gained the decision neubert in the 145-poundi class met post who has defeated all comers and put up a pretty exhibi tion the bout started off with a rush and every minute was full of action both men worked them continued on fifth page lehigh quartet loses lehigh finished last in a tri angular mile relay race at the an nual indoor games of the meadow brook club of philadelphia last saturday night lafayette took first place and catholio'uiiiversity finished second although lehigh brought up the rear she was by no means out classed as captain mcgrath finished less than a yard behind the catholic university anchor man the lafayette man finished first by inches only schultz running the first leg for lehigh touched off greenleaf with a lead of eight yards over the second man greenleaf had diffi culty in taking the sharp corners and was in the rear when he touched off
