the y m c a meeting next sunday evening february 20 at 6.15 o'clock in drown hall will be one of great interest mr michail m dorizas the great greek wrestler and at present a student at the university of penn sylvania will speak on persia and will show over one hundred a meeting of the letter men in college was held on wednesday afternoon in drown hall the purpose of the meeting was to form a varsity club consisting of all the letter men in college with the formation of such a club lehigh is only following a precedent set by many of the other colleges where the athletes have a club of their own this tends to bring them to gether and a closer fellowship re sulting in mutual co-operation en sues athletics are put upon a higher plane and a true standard of sportsmanship is set up it is hoped that the formation of this club at lehigh will bring about a closer relationship of the sports some insignia will prob ably be worn by the club members such as brown hats with white la on them this will distin guish the members of the club and they will work in harmony with the arcadia to promote the interests of the university this will be es pecially valuable in the fall when the presence of such a body will make itself felt by its influence on the incoming class f w green 16 and s b scruggs 16 were nominated for president the former being elected president green then appointed p s hanway 17 as temporary sec retary and a committee consisting of sexton 16 hanway 17 and halsted 18 to draw up a constitu tion for the club it was decided to hold about six meetings a year the next one to take place at one o'clock february 26 in drown hall a general discussion then followed after which the meeting was adjourned in addition to these men the fol lowing men who have won letters are eligible to the club : thomas continued on second page the following men were present : green martin becker mayers schulz sexton jenness achorn fishburn twombley fleming crichton kirkpatrick biglow richards scruggs halsted cheno weth heuer hallowell carlson hanway murphy and crawford relay team runs tomorrow evening first race with georgetown univer sity at washington d c six men make trip soccer game with lafayette tomorrow winner of contect to meet pennsyl vania for championship in perm soccer league score 20 to 17 dynan star of game brewster makes five out of nine chances on fouls continued on sixth page there are three acts and four sets each reflecting various phases of x college life the speaking parts are twenty in number mostly girls and as many more of the latter will be required for the chorus the play is replete with musical numbers dances scenic and lighting effects all in all the fascinating widow prom ises to be a big production and under the able direction of mr john a mccollom jr the associa tion feels assured of giving possibly the story a lively and mirthful one exploits a delightful complica tion of a co-ed institution known as x college hal blake a student favorite is crossed in his suit for margaret leffingwell by an insipid book-worm oswald men w t orth margaret's mother matron of the school favors oswald mar garet herself prefers hal in an argument hal comes to blows with oswald the latter a physical weakling takes refuge in legal re dress to escape arrest hal mas querades as a neighboring widow gets away with it wins favor with margaret's mother and succeeds in fascinating everyone he meets everybody falls for his charms — detective chaplain the girl stu dents also the vacilating ossie everything runs smoothly until the chaplain observes the widow undressing or rather dressing in one of the boys rooms a scandal is immediately launched to extri cate himself from which hal re sorts to a clever coupe that eventu ally vanquishes ossie and wins margaret for himself the fascinating widow will be the spring production of mus tard and cheese special arrange ments having been made with its author for presentation the latter part of april though new to this community the work will be recalled as the one in which julien eltinge scored such a signal suc cess a season or two ago a more happy choice of vehicle could hardly be made for a mustard and cheese production especially as it lends itself so aptly to the associa tion's requirements lehigh lost a loosely played game last evening to her old rival lafayette by a score of 20-17 the game was played at the easton armory and due to the slippery floor both teams failed to play up to standard the game turned into a rough-house many times which caused twenty-seven fouls to be called most of which were of the personal variety lafayette jumped into the lead when troxell dropped one in from the foul line taylor then followed with a goal from the field brewster then tallied a foul and ketcham made it three all after a pretty dribble down the floor the teams then see-sawed back and forth until near the end of the first half with lafayette leading 10-8 dynan and crichton each dropped a basket in rapid succession put ting lehigh ahead 12-10 just be fore time was called was added an other point from the foul line score lehigh 12 lafayette 11 lehigh started off with a rush soon after the whistle blew dynan caging a field basket lafayette rallied with two pretty shots by luhr and weldon and a foul by troxell dynan then brought the crowd to its feet with a spectacular one-hand shot from the center of the floor many fouls were called at this stage of the game but troxell failed to tally anderson and taylor then put lafayette in the lead with two baskets the lafayette guards tightened up and lehigh was unable to tally from the field brewster making a free toss a few minutes before time was called dynan was easily the star performer of the evening closely followed by ketcham brewster made five out of nine fouls called while troxell fell down making only four free throws out of eighteen chances the line-up : lehigh held the team will be picked from the following men 115-pound class — captain kirk huff or hicks 15-pound class — martin or lam bert 135-pound class — hiss or jen ness 145-pound class — shaffer or repa 158-pound class — parrish or d'ayton 175-pound class — levin unlimited class — no candidates lacrosse practice lacrosse will start next week the date of the first practice will be posted on the bulletin boards and in the brown and white candidates for assistant manager will report at the same time as well as all men out for the team note the berks county club held a meeting in drown hall last wed nesday afternoon it was decided that the cluh should have an insert in the epitome of this year another matter taken up was that of a con solidation with the berks county clubs of the various colleges as suggested by the berks men at uni versity of pennsylvania this plan calls for a permanent organization the chief purpose of which is to inculcate a spirit of friendship among the various berks county sons in addition a dance is planned to be held in reading dur ing the easter holidays michail m dorizas lehigh s record has been one of continual improvement and all dope points toward victory count ing games of the league and of the wilbur cup contest lehigh has met the maroon and white players twice and the philadelphians once the first game with lafayette was a defeat for lehigh by the score of 1 goal to 0 ; the second a victory by the score of 3 goals to 1 pennsyl vania's only defeat in the soccer league was registered against her by lehigh the brown and white soccer team meets 1 the lafayette aggrega tion on taylor field tomorrow afternoon in the first game to de cide the winner in the pennsyl vania soccer league the season ended in a triple tie the three teams being perm lafayette and lehigh the victor of this game will meet perm in the final and de ciding game scenes of the serious side of this country now so prominent on ac count of the european war mr dorizas and party have per sonally takes these views this will make the third time in as many years that he will speak before a lehigh audience and will very likely be the last since this will be his last year at penn there is possibly no one student in any american college or uni versity better known than this great athlete and christian stu dent to young men all over the united states mike stands for the strongest man within their knowledge and also the greatest disciple of clean living and good sportsmanship mike's reputation for advo cating clean athletics has pene trated the minds and hearts of american boys and his word be comes their creed during the course of a year he addresses numerous clubs institutions and groups exhorting his hearers to live and think cleanly fair play is one of his mottoes he is a constant contributor to the publications of u of p this month's bed and blue contains an article of his on minor sports and sportsmanship in which he says there is no nation on the face of the earth whose people love sport the way the americans do that attitude is a splendid thing but the attitude is sometimes wrong concerning victory and defeat and further he says ' ' coaches are paid too high salaries and if they do not turn out winning teams they are likely to lose their lucrative positions so they will try to win at all costs ' ' finally he makes a plea that coaches be made members of the faculty it is for his athletic ability that continued on sixth page the lehigh relay team will in augurate its 1916 season on satur day night when the team will run a match race with the speedy georgetown university quartet at the annual georgetown indoor meet held at convention hall washington d c the brown and white team has been training since the beginning of the new year and although handicapped by the bad weather conditions which have made the use of the outdoor board track at times impossible are in fairly good trim the race should be very closely con tested as from all accounts the georgetown team is in the pink of condition however there will be a great element of luck in the race as the track is a twelve-lap affair and accidents can easily happen as yet captain burke has not decided upon the team six men will make the trip : captain burke carlson hanway mcgrath mor rissey and manager keiser president drinker attended the sessions of the american
