ball in o ponents territory most of the game only have three tries at goal on saturday evening april 29 the mustard and cheese club pre sented its thirty-second annual production ' ' the fascinating widow at the grand opera house from start to finish the play progressed with a smoothness and finish that is really remarkable for a production of this elaborate nature by an amateur organization promptly at the scheduled hour of eight o'clock the members of cast and chorus were assembled be hind the curtain ready to begin owing to the tardy arrival of the large audience however the cur tain was not rung up until eight thirty during the wait the well trained orchestra under the di rection of l j luckenbach 17 rendered three selections finally the foot-lights flared up the or chestra struck up a lively tune the curtain rolled up and revealed the entire cast in a musical number with an attractive and elaborate stage setting and the fascinating widow was under way sud denly there was a burst of song from the rear of the theatre and the entire chorus marched down through the audience and upon the stage and joined in the graceful dance that accompanied the open ing number the appla.use was instantaneous and hearty and henceforth to the last curtain the audience was kept in constant good humor continued on fourth page the action of the play developed quickly one humorous situation following another avith rapidity j mckay in the dual role of hal visitors come from all parts of the east to enjoy big social event of year for the shakespeare pageant to be given the evening of may 19 in taylor stadium lehigh university will present in tableaux henry viii this is one of shakespeare's best historic plays and is one which affords excellent opportunity for splendid costumes and fine scenery it would be of course impossible to give a tableau of every scene in the play however the most im portant and striking ones have been chosen to depict the char acters and action of the play four tableaux are to be presented as follows 1 cardinal wolsey and retinue act i scene 1 2 the procession act 11 scene 4 3 the coronation act iv scene 1 jl the christening act v scene 5 continued on sixth page these scenes are some of the most spectacular in all the works of shakespeare this applies es pecially to the processional and coronation scenes which ought to give a grand effect due to the large number re quired to participate in the two tableaux just mentioned prof charles k meschter has found it necessary to issue another call for men to take part in the play ap proximately forty men are required for the entire performance and although quite a large number have already volunteered still more men are desired as to the actual preparation and trouble con the year professor appointed the junior week festivities came to a close saturday night with the production of the fascinating widow by the mustard and ! cheese dramatic club at the grand opera house junior week this year was from all standpoints one of the most successful ever held at lehigh there being more than a hundred guests present from all parts of the east the weather although disagreeable the opening night was ideal the last two days and in no way interfered with any of the activities the program began thursday evening with a course supper in drow y n hall given by the fraterni ties and dormitories holding house parties this was the initial at tempt at any thing of this kind aud it proved to be a success and an ideal way to begin the week's fes tivities practically all the guests attended the supper and dancing was enjoyed between courses the music being furnished by the dixie lands orchestra of reading immediately after the supper the sophomore cotillion club dance began upstairs in drown hall the dance was a brilliant success and was attended by about 75 couples the yess ossman or chestra of new york played for the dance and light refreshments were served 1 during intermission the freshman dance held at the delta tau delta house and the sigma nu dance both were well attended the dixie land or chestra furnished the music for the freshman dance at which about thirty couples attended while wal lander's orchestra played for the sigma nu dance on friday afternoon although the weather was rather threatening a large part of the guests were present at taylor stadium to see the brown and white team hand trinity one of the worst defeats of the season the psi upsilon and alpha tau omega fraternities each held tea dansants from four to six on fri day wiiile the delta tau delta and sigma nu fraternities each enter tained on saturday afternoon many of the guests did not ar rive until friday evening and there was an exceptionally large crowd j at the junior prom which began | at 9.30 p.m and lasted into the wee hours of the morning the vess ossman orchestra also played for the prom saturday was an ideal day from the weather standpoint and there was a crowd of about 3000 in cluding most of the guests who gathered to see lehigh s unde feated lacrosse team take yale's measure for a 4 to 0 count the festivities of the week came to an unwelcome and the biggest successes ever presented to a junior week audience at le high professor mckibben has been ap pointed consulting engineer by the united states civil service commission to review qualifications of applicants for positions as seni or civil engineers with the inter state commerce commission in con nection with the valuation of rail roads now being made by the united states government he has been appointed a mem ber of the committee on member ship in the american association of university professors college lecture hamilton game the lehigh baseball team found hamilton an easy opponent last wednesday afternoon winning by the score of 14 to 0 the game was an old-fashioned batting bee for the brown and white while hurley and e twombly held the new york staters to four scattered hits not a man reached second until the eighth when mclouth doubled the miserable showing made by hamilton is partly attributed to four of their regulars missing a train and not reaching south beth lehem until the sixth inning after sch war z had taken whitman's place in the box lehigh failed to register a hit but the damage had already been done in the early part of the game lehigh started off by tallying six runs in the first round the runs were a result of heavy hitting and poor handling of the ball by ham ilton three more runs were scored in the second while four more fol lowed in the third after that the brown and white team took things easy and were satisfied to score only one run in the fifth on the other hand hamilton had a hard time getting men on the bases hurley allowed only twelve men to face him in four innings and only twenty-nine men faced the lehigh pitchers during the en tire game for lehigh lees and winterhal ter both played good ball while mclouth and nothing the game was well played although le high's attack missed many shots some falling short and others lack ing force goalkeeper levy making many easy saves yale had but three tries at goal during during the entire con test the ball was worked up to the yale goal in short order but wait fell down on an easy shot for the next fifteen minutes le high bombarded the yale goal without success most of the shots having the direction but lacking speed yale took a brace and brought the ball into lehigh terri tory but the defense tightened so that tate was practically idle just before the end of the first half yale made three futile attempts at the lehigh goal when half time was called the ball was in yale terri tory second half lehigh started the second half with a rush and the only man who seemed able to stop the attack was levy eli's goalkeeper a mixup took place after five minutes of play in the front of the yale goal and mayers managed to push the ball in the goal for the first score this was all lehigh needed for after the next centering of the ball jenness passed to barclay who thirty yards from the goal made the score two to nothing this play alone showed the supremacy of the
