last home game veteran team at state twombley hits for circuit twice connell makes spectacular catch in center in a game full of thrills and ex citement the lehigh nine batted their way to victory over the ur sinus ball team by a score of 8 to 4 in the second inning fishburn came through with one of his spec tacular catches scooping the ball up in one hand and throwing his man out at first base twonibley made a home-run m the third inning on a hit over the right-field fence achorn scoring ahead of him albrecht hit to deep center in the fourth inning but the fast fielding of the visitors held him on first base miller made a three-base hit in the sixth and brought in johnson but was put out himself while try ing to steal home in the sixth inning a lehigh man was on every sack two men were out when twombley drove a long fly that bounded through a hole in the right field fence scoring a home-run and bringing in three other rums the same situation occurred on the ursinus side in the ninth inning with four runs needed to tie the score the bases were filled and none out the next man up flyed to chemoweth anderson fanned the next batter the following man up drove a long fly to center field al most into the bleachers connell then made the most spectacular catch made on taylor field reach ing backward he caught the fly in one hand twonibley fishburn and connell were easily the stars of the lehigh team while kennedy and diemer played well for the visitors continued on fourth page mile relay team defeated har vard yale and prince ton indoors on saturday may bth lehigh will meet the perm state track team in a dual meet at state college this year state has a team of the highest class members of the perm state relay team whidh defeated harvard yale and princeton in the intercollegiate indoor championship will compete as will lamb who has a national reputation as an athlete state also has a hurdler who is the junior national champion of the united states while the majority of the members of her four-mile relay team which competed in the inter national relay race will also op pose lehigh in view of these facts the meet on saturday should be the supreme test for lehigh's track men coach connors predicts that megrath will in all probability try and break the two-mile record while if either carlson or hanway defeat the perm state men in the quarter mile both lehigh and perm state's records will be broken grumbach has scored more points in the last two years than any other man in college and he should be able to contribute in this meet his usual 8 or 10 points lehigh's entries are as follows : 100 yard dash — morrissey and sproul 220 yard dash — morrissey and carlson quarter-mile — carlson and han way half-mile — hanway and burke one-mile burke and on saturday when lehigh will meet the carlisle indians on taylor field there are two more games how ever for the brown and white team one with the crescent a c and the other with the u of p both of which are out-of-town games besides being the last time in the 1915 season that the lehigh twelve will be seen in action here in south bethlehem the mere name indians should be enough to act as a drawing card lehigh and car lisle have always been strong rivals on the lacrosse field and both teams have been looking forward to and preparing for this annual spring event carlisle's record this season could not be considered exceptional and has not been up to the standard of the past few years but they have had over a week to get ready for this game and they have had the benefit of playing against team s which lehigh had previously met the brown and white team has lost only one game this year and that was to johns hopkins on last saturday by the score of 5 to 4 nevertheless lehigh put up the best game of lacrosse this year at baltimore which fact should make her a strong favorite cornell was able to tie the home team 1 to 1 in their first game but perm state stevens and swarthmore will begin on june 15th and will con tinue until june 23rd this confer ence usually draws students from new jersey pennsylvania new york ohio and west virginia al most all of the colleges and schools in these states send delegations and last year such universities as le high cornell princeton columbia pennsylvania perm state ohio state oberlin and lafayette in addition to many smaller colleges and secondary schools were repre sented this will be the fourth year that this conference has been held and as in former years some of the lead ing religious men of the country have been obtained as speakers and leaders this year such well-known men as mr raymond robins mr sherwood eddy mr g a johns ton ross mr johni douglas adams rt rev charles e woodcock d d prof norman e richardson prof a r mann prof h h tweedy and rev floyd w tom kins d d will address those who attend the conference dr a l sharpe of cornell will be in charge of the athletic sports invitations are being extended to the following men to appear upon the platform : mr john r matt mr robert e speer rev harry e foshick mr e t colton and mr h c king mr robins is famous for his act ivities as an explorer in the klon dike regions where he acquired a small fortune since his return to the united states he has played a prominent role in the political life of the middle west he was a can didate for united states senator from illinois at the recent senator ial elections and was defeated by only the smallest of margins he has been an important figure in the student life in this section of the _ country and has taken great interest in the life at the numerous univer sities there mr eddy has just re turned from the orient where he addressed huge gatherings of stu dents in china india and japan it was mainly owing to his efforts that thousands of young men in these countries accepted christianity at the last conference lehigh was represented by three men and the committee hopes to have at least twenty-five lehigh students attend the conference this year the con ference will be held at eaglesmere which is situated in the mountains of western pennsylvania the site is almost perfect a lake one mile long by a mile wide with a white sand bathing beach and an altitude of two thousand feet ; athletic field with bleachers ; tennis courts and a golf links all go to offer a fine place for a student to spend a few days the program of the conference plans that all the delegates attend conferences in the morning have the entire afternoon for recreation and then spend the evening either in general conferences or in meetings of each particular delegation lafayette post pones tennis match at a meeting of the junior class held in packer hall last wednes day the following nominations for senior class officers were made president — sawtelle benson wynne and sanford vice-president — breavster and tierney secretary — mudge cranston and gunn treasurer — thorp lancaster cranston kirkhuff hicks and ga ney hagenbuch mathews scruggs downs john son leslie johnston and baush ballot box will be open at drown hall in the brown and white room from 9.00 a m to 3.00 p m next wednesday may 12th this saturday the university baseball team travels to annville pa to play the nine of lebanon \ alley college not much has been learned about the lebanonites but from all reports their game this year is up to the standard of pre vious years although lehigh did not play lebanon valley last year and no comparative scores can be secured it is safe to say that if lehigh con tinues at her present pace the op ponent will be taken into camp lehigh has been maintaining a stride this year that few of the op posing teams can overcome hav ing lost only two games army and catholic university out of twelve shows that this year lehigh is rep resented by a team superior to those of previous years calculus cremation mustard and cheese the following committee has been appointed by president edwards to take charge of the calculus crema tion on june 4th : frobisher chair man ; custer levy colby and von mengeringhausen . the university tennis team jour neyed to easton last wednesday on ly to find the lafayette courts in too wet a condition to play the match it has been postponed until the afternoon of may 22nd on which date the baseball team plays the second game of the series with lafayette columbia to-morrow on saturday on the university courts the lehigh tennis team will meet columbia in what will proba bly be one of the hardest matches of the season the columbia team has participated in five matches to date defeating trinity wesley an fordham and c c n v and los ing to williams in addition they played a match with new york university which they were unable to finish owing to darkness on the other hand the lehigh team has played three matches losing to hill school johns hopkins and tieing the navy the match scheduled with lafayette on wednesday could not be played on account of wet grounds from games played and their re sulting scores columbia seems to have an advantage however it is probable that one or two of the best men on their team will be unable to make the trip to south bethle hem owing to scholastic work this would be a handicap for the blue and white but they can be expect ed to put up a strong fight for columbia the line-up will be four of the following s miller s engineering course for the last term any man who has not been pursuing an en gineering course will be required to pay the regular fee of 20 the second summer school offers courses to persons who have been delinquent or who are preparing for the entrance examinations in all the courses of the second term there are fees the second summer school varies in length according to the course taken following are the courses offered : french and german first reci tation august 2 11 a m students desiring to take french or german in advance or students who have not been over the required work in class must obtain the permission of the faculty in order to enter the summer-school session all such students must make arrangements with prof fox for french and prof palmer for german before june 15 1915 for certain prelimi nary work to be done as prepara tion for the class mathematics and astronomy spherical trigonometry first recitation at 8 a m august 25 analytic geometry first recita tion at 8 a m august 4 freshman differential calculus first recitation at 9 a m aug 4 sophomore integral calculus first recitation at 9 a m aug 4 differential equations first reci tation at 10 a m august 25 sophomore analytic mechanics first recitation at 8 a m aug 18 descriptive astronomy first recitation at 8 a m august 11 in each of these courses there will be two recitations each day except saturday when there will be only one recitation 1 students desiring to take any of the above subjects in advance or if they have not previously been ov er them in the class must obtain the permission of the faculty to do so and must also obtain not later than june 5 from professor thornburg instructions in reference to special work in preparation for the class civil engineering land surveying optional for freshmen c e students in min ing engineering are required to take this work at the close of the sophomore year other persons who have a good knowledge of trigonometry and have had some practice in
