has been taught how to attack problems this constitutes the professors half of a man's education the stu dent's half consists of learning how to conduct himself honestly and honourably among his fellow asso ciates accuracy is essential to the en gineer that is taught throughout the college course engineering must be conducted on an honest line this honesty constitutes be ing honest to oneself and to facts that lead to conclusions an en gineer to be successful must never jump to conclusion's which he is not able to understand never attempt to deceive superiors by improvable conclusions another essential of the engineer is the care of the body clear headedness honest work depends much upon one's physique to guard against breaking down one's health is a prominent factor the man entering into engineer ing has little idea of the troubles awaiting him even domestic trou bles of his associates and subordi nates enter into his affairs then there is a tendency for one labor ing under such troubles to get mad it is natural to get mad but if one gets to that state of madness that his judgment the concise judgment of the engineer is warped then his success as an engineer is limited the average engineering student does not realize the necessity and advantage of the department of lit erature of his college he must be able to educate to his associates in business the advantages of certain methods in order to retain his job from one having ability to exampli fy his thoughts to others what is engineering it is of ten quoted : ninety per cent for cents and the rest horse sense many enter into engineering be cause they are curious engineering arouses much curiosity to men not connected with this profession en gineering is sometimes complex and then again simple
