holds annual dinner in wilkes barre about fifty lehigh men present varsity defeats f & m at lan caster in fast game varsity after a two months preparatory season starts schedule meet with columbia score was 45 to 20 excellent plays shown by team which had lay-off dur ing exams but two of last year's seven letter men back on brown and white team the annual dinner of the north eastern pennsylvania - lehigh club was held at the hotel sterling wil k.es-barre last thursday night with an attendance of about fifty alumni a report made by the committee in charge showed that the fund for the donation of a section to lehigh's concrete stadium is almost com pleted the northeastern pennsylvania club holds the honor of being the first of the alumni organizations to make a donation of this character the speakers included the retiring i resident of the club henry kem merling c f 91 m s 03 the newly elected president w c an derson e e " ( 4 president drink er professor reiter registrar \\ alters of the university william griffith c e 76 robert f har vey e f 95 ; and by simon c long gen eral manager of the pennsylvania railroa^l who spoke in behalf of the philadelphia-lafayette club this dinner was regarded as probably the most successful ever held by the philadelphia-lehigh club one hundred and one per sons were in attendance a feature of the evening was the novel favors arrangements for the meeting were made by the sec retary moriz bernstein c e 96 seniors notice if you intend going in the senior class book hand your ballot to a member of the committee and have your picture taken both portrait and snap-shot all before monday february 9th 1914 the following men will take snap shot picture's charnock goyne and schoolbred the class book assessment of 4.50 musi be paid before febru ary 15th the committee lacrosse candidates ( apt . i i artdegen desires lo meet all lacrosse men at the field i louse on tuesday the 10th at 3.30 from then until lurther notice the prac tices will be held each tuesday and thursday afternoons at this time all candidates for the assistant managership will also report game in easton tonight will be first of two game series to-night the lehigh basketball team journeys down the river to play the first of a two-game series with lafayette the first game be tween the two rivals since 190.3 in that year but the second season of basketball at lehigh the brown and white team won 20 to 9 the next year lafayette dropped the sport not resuming it until this winter le high has kept up the game through these years and this season's team ranks among the fastest ewer turn ed out no more capable a team could be desired to represent lehigh in the resumption of indoor relations with our old rivals the men are ex perienced and have played together long enough to have the best of team work capt crichton 15 is playing his third year of basketball al lehigh white 15 his running mate at forward is also playing his third year as is price 13 the left guard green 15 is playing his first year as a regular guard al though he won his letter last season ; johnson 16 center is playing his first year of lehigh basketball hav ing come here from weslevan uni versity lafayette has team work lafayette's five have not had the collegiate experience lehigh's quin tet has had but with the exception of scheeren have played together on a championship easton high school team team work of the finest sort it would seem should he shown by these men and yet it is doubtful if it can better lehigh's fast floor-work captain snyder ■guard and stone forward are in their last year in the college ; black burn center is a junior tr forward and scheeren guard who came from kiskimetas school are members of the 1916 class the lafayette team which is be ing coached by capt snyder start ed with two severe handicaps — lack of a place to practice and play their games and lack of experienced ma terial the latter handicap was re ed by the facult who repealed the law lo the effect that a man ma participate in but two sports this allowed scheeren and black burn both of whom were already football and baseball men to join be squad where the cfuickly show ed their ability and made the var sity i he handicap as to a place to practice is caused by the fact hat the college gymnasium is constantly in use by classes in the afternoon owing to smallness of the floor and consequent large number of classes the team practices in the armory in the wrestling meet with col umbia to-morrow afternoon lehigh will be represented by practically a new team since only captain catch and sawtelle remain from last year's varsity all the men how ever with the single exception of mccarty the heavy-weight have had some training in wrestling pre vious to the present season so that the team is not as inexperienced as would appear the line-up against the i hue and white will probably be as follows 115-pound class — rirkhuff 125-pound class — martin 135-pound class — thomas 145-pound class — ( latch 158-pound class — sawtelle 175-pound class — pailey i eavy-weight — mccarty as most of these men have yet to show what they can do and as the caliber of the columbia team is not known the outcome of the meet cannot be prophesied very surely but there is no reason to believe that it will he a defeat for the browri and white the meet will be held in the col osseum and will be refereed by mr e zello of philadelphia central y m c . a whose work gamed such strong approval last season glee and man dolin clubs after three months of continuous practice the combined musical clubs will make their appearance at cata sauqua where they will give a con cert in the catasauqua club on saturday evening february 7th the lehigh quartet appeared in idelphia on friday evening january 30th when it entertained the philadelphia-lehigh alumni club the quartet is composed of wynne 16 first tenor ;
