the thirty-third annual observ ance of founder's day was held at ten o'clock saturday morning in packer memorial chapel a de parture was made from the former custom of having some outside speaker the main address of the day being delivered by prof blake of lehigh's own faculty dr drinker gave a few remin iscences of early lehigh and a per sonal estimate of our founder's character he said — we are met to-day to honor the name and the memory of the foun der of our university the num ber of those who were privileged to know him personally is lessening year by year yet to-day there are still present at this gathering as at our previous observances of the day a number of those to whom the memory of his kindly presence is personal and real and who can speak of him from personal ac quaintance and association among these are the honored president of our board of trustees dr henry r price of our class of 70 and myself the day brings back to us the presence of that grand old man who through his intelligent far seeing grasp of transportation con ditions in this valley over half a century ago with prescient eye and instinct conceived and set in motion the development of the great trans portation system which he lived to bring to successful completion asa packer was peculiarly a man of the people a typical ameri can — honest shrewd far-seeing in domitable in energy kindly and sympathetic in disposition to us young students of the early days of lehigh he was in deed a friend and a father and his memory will be honored by le high men as one who set an exam ple of modest yet paramount pub lic service our alumni have done well to plan in this his memorial chapel erected by loving hands in his memory the enduring effigy in continued on supplement notice to electricals princeton game in his forceful way he urged the men to support the team whatever the outcome he also in relation with doctor drinker's request ask ed the students to do nothing which would mar our athletic relations with princeton and to uphold le high's fair name in all their actions coach keady made his first ad dress before a college meeting at lehigh in his remarks he en joined the student-body to reserve their criticism of the team until it had been given a fair trial remind ing them of the base-ball team of last year he requested the men to be careful in cheering so that it would be done at the proper time and not when it might confuse le high's players concluding he said that the team was in fine condition and with the present outlook a good season should result captain
