continued on fourth page the class of 1915 upheld its rec ord of last year by having a large percentage of men turn out for the second annual banquet held at the eagle hotel on thursday evening the invited guests were : president drinker prof reiter mr walters mr odom and c r wylie 13 the menus furnished by the com mittee were novel and attractive they consisted of the menu proper with a purple leather cover on which was stamped in gold the numerals of the class n m royall president of the class was toastmaster he called first on dr drinker who gave some personal reminiscences of his trip through india he talked about the new taylor gymnasium saying that plans will be put before the students shortly dr drinker urged the glass do what it can to diminish night hazing at lehigh mr falters registrar talked on enthusiasm he said that the whole university has good reason for rejoicing because the past year has been a notable one he urged that the men sink themselves in the service of lehigh prof reiter spoke on the causes of the athletic victories of the cur rent year he said that the func tion of athletics is not what some people attribute it to be it is not an end but only a means to an end a long and healthful life prof reiter expressed himself as not be ing opposed to men who play on college teams receiving money for ursinus on wednesday in a game requiring two extra periods of ten minutes each to de cide it lehigh defeated the mid dies at annapolis by the score of 4to 3 the game from the start was a fast one lehigh's attack was the more aggressive and the defense strong in about the first three minutes of play buck made the first goal followed closely by a goal for navy jay at nearly the close of the pe riod made another the half end ing 2 to 1 the second half was sharply contested and not until a bout the middle of it was any scor ing done buck then tallied but the navy soon slipped in two more goals making the score a tie white made a goal a little later but it was not counted owing to the presence of an extra man a substitute on the field the first extra period ended with out further scoring but in the sec ond one speed succeeded in caging the deciding goal the summary : — lehigh positions navy perkins goal .... shaunagel g donaldson . point cuneen r.donaldson coy point gilchrist raynor . . ist defense .... ralston hartdegen . 2nd defense . . . maury haddaway . 3rd defense . . . wiley sanchez centre wiltse dunn 3rd attack cohen jay capt 2nd attack gray buck ...... ist attack mckee white out home davis speed in home .... mitchell substitutions — lehigh cole for haddaway ; navy bower for wilt se goals — lehigh jay 1 buck 2 speed 1 ; navy mitchell 2 davis 1 reieree — mr strarth biscoe mt washington goal umpires — f r speed lehigh and midship man ring time of periods — two of twenty minutes each and two ex tra periods of ten minutes each the lehigh club of north-east ern pennsylvania held a very suc cessful meeting at scranton last saturday night dr drinker and prof lambert with vincent j pazzetti o b ack erly 13 c l packard 13 r h sproul 15 l p wragg 14 and d t wynne 13 from the student body were present as guests from the university mr e j lynett editor and proprietor of the scran ton times a good friend of lehigh was also present as an honored guest and made a very happy speech in the course of which he related an experience hitherto un published of our president the story was that some time during the last administration dr drinker was summoned by attorney-general wickersham to come to washing ton for consultation on matters of importance relative to the national conservation interests that a large female of ample bodily dimen sions took a seat in the same parlor car opposite to the doctor that the doctor became immersed in his papers evidently studying conser vation and forestry matters prelim inary to his interview and that ac cording to his wont the doctor waxed indignant over the reports of waste of our timberlands and other natural resources and com ing across a particularly aggrava ting report threw himself back in his seat and unconsciously looking at the stout lady opposite ex claimed what an infernal waste waist she indignantly rose and observed i don't see sir what concern it is of yours !
