with their roughest game won the team was on the field wednes day afternoon feeling in their old form even though nearly everyone bore some mark of the indian game several men had received bad cuts so that to-day they made their first appearance the next game that with johns hopkins at baltimore starts the championship series this match will be a good one in all depart ments and being a league game it will be hard-fought the brown and white team has established for itself an enviable record while hopkins has not yet been beaten thus far the baltimoreans have beaten some of the best teams in the country cornell harvard and stevens are on their list of defeats ; they also tied the navy lehigh's record is also rather en couraging for a comparison of the games both teams have played shows that the navy was a victim while cornell was a victor but by adding to this a victory over the indians who defeated cornell the comparative strengths of the two teams is readily seen the men who are the mainstays of the hopkins team are captain huck who plays ist defense knipp at ist attack and a double goal tender effect with sutton at point and sears at goal on the whole the johns hopkins team is made up of a fast dodging attack with good stick work and a reliable defense lehigh's team will probably be made up of the following men for the game on saturday captain jay 2nd attack ; dunn 3rd attack ; buck ist attack white out-home speed in-home sanchez centre hadaway 3rd defense hartdegen 2nd defense raynor ist defense r donaldson cover-point ; g don aldson point and perkins goal on account of the clear weather the team has been practicing twice daily with the scrubs coach grimes feels confident that the brown and white team will win y m c a announcement plans for the remodeling of the old gymnasium have been posted in drown memorial hall in the fu ture the building will be used by the arts and science departments and when altered it will have been prac tically rebuilt there will be three floors the first floor which will be occupied by the department of business administration will con tain a lecture room three recitation rooms and an office the second floor is to be divided into eight class rooms and will be used by the latin greek german french psy chology and education depart ments on the third floor there will be plenty of room for the arts and science library and a museum politics club calculus cremation the april meeting of the politics club will be held on tuesday a pril 29th at 8.00 p m in drown memorial hall all members are urged to attend as china and her foreign loans _ plans for the calculus crema tion to be held commencement week were started wednesday at a meeting of the sophomore class the committee appointed to take charge of the preparations consists of the following men — higgins chairman bodine miller norton boyd wilcox and siebecker professor francis a march of lafayette college will be the speak er at the y m c a meeting on sunday evening professor march is chairman of the athletic advisory board of la fayette he was a candidate for congress at the last election on both the progressive and republi can party tickets he is well fitted to discuss the subject he has chosen the col lege man in political life in a game of snappy fielding and good all around work lehigh after ten innings of strenuous baseball succeeded in downing albright on wednesday afternoon by the score of 7to 6 this score is the same as the one which was made last year in a thirteen-inning game the myerstown nine came here with the determination to wipe out the sting of last year's defeat but were not successful the first man up for albright struck out greenhalgh and pott eiger in succession hit long drives into the field for home runs hig gins caught a fly by beamsderfer and keady struck out the third man o'keefe took first on an error by albright's short stop and tapking sacrificed keady brought o'keefe home by a two-bagger to centre wright hit a single to left field but was caught stealing second crichton w t as struck out albright could not score in the second capt bell started the in ning off for lehigh by hitting a three-bagger to centre pazzetti struck out and bell slid home chenoweth knocked a liner to left and took two bases o'keefe hit a fly to left field which was caught and higgins came home cheno weth came home on a foul by tap king which glanced off greenhalgh's glove neither lehigh nor albright suc ceeded in getting any runs in the third and fourth innings albright could not get any in the fifth o'keefe sent one to third and took first on it tapking sacrificed and keady took second on an er ror in centre field bringing o'keefe home wright knocked a high one to beamsderfer bringing keady to third the inning ended with the score 5 to 2 in lehigh's favor neither team scored in the sixth inning but in the seventh albright got one run hartzell knocked one to pazzetti who missed it allowing paz zetti albrecht took left field and bell shifted to right field albright succeeded in getting three runs in this inning scheiffley hit a liner to left field and took second the next two men were col by villa nova new york law dickinson carlisle bucknell wash ington and jefferson and washing ton and lee pennsylvania's relay races will this year eclipse even the great rec ords of last year seventy three colleges and one hundred and nine ty-eight schools have entered for these classic contests these teams embrace practically all the college and school athletic talent east of the rocky mountains the col lege relay championships of amer ica have attracted all the teams that would have a chance in these very high-class events while the special events will have intercollegiate champions and record-holders or both from the east and west in addition to the college cham pionships and special events in which the cream of the college ath letes will appear there will be sev eral class relay races for the col leges many of them second only in interest to the championships them selves in addition the schools will furnish some of the best sport of the afternoon the high school and the preparatory school cham pionships have attracted the most representative entry ever known in the history of scholastic sport and the winners of these two races will indeed earn the title of american relay champions nearly two hun dred schools are entered and it will take some great hustling by the managers to pull off the whole pro gram in one afternoon nineteen hundred contestant's tickets have been ordered which will give some indication of the army of athletes that will be seen on franklin field on the last saturday of this month
