ramsden for many courtesies while within his reach mr ramsden is a member of the firm of jim ko bayagawa co numismatists and philatelists experts on far eastern coins he spends much time an nually in china collecting old coins at the close of the day we took a special train provided for our party to tokyo the capitol of jap an since 1868 where after dinner at a very good hotel the imperial we by special invitation attended a ball given by the minister of foreign affairs in honor of the emperor's birth-day the assem blage was a cosmopolitan one . eu ropean and japanese officers in uni form diplomats decorated with or ders japanese ladies and gentle men — some in european dress but many in their beautiful national cos tume which suits them so infinitely better ; with also a large attendance of europeans and americans inclu ding our party of engineers and their ladies next day november 4th the party visited in the morning the im perial university and the imperial museum i missed this as some how i had not received or had mis understood the notices given out and i went to yokohama in the early morning to see about my steamer arrangements to china but professor richards who was present told me that the univer sity was well equipped and i know that our party had a pleasant and cordial reception mrs drinker says she saw lots of sport going on — pole vaulting — tennis — etc the tennis played on double-courts but with four players on a side we were tendered a luncheon at noon by the mayor of tokyo and his wife madame ozaki which i had the pleasure of attending the mayor's address of which we were handed printed copies in english was very happy in it he said ladies and gentlemen i thank you most heartily for your goodness in being here today it gives me sincere pleasure to wel come you to this metropolitan city of the empire of japan coming as you do from a country that is at the van of prog ress and civilization i am afraid that the city may have little to of fer that may interest you except perhaps in the way of the pictur esque and poetical i scarcely need assure you however that whatever there is of interest to you the city is the albright basketball team which will be here tomorrow even ing has already played six of its schedule of twenty games the teams albright has met so far are the olivets middletown state col lege and york y m c a each in one game and the harrisburg col legians in two games all of these games except the one with penn state were easily captured by al bright the game with penn state was lost by albright only after a hard struggle by the score of 32 to 31 while penn state has not this year the strong team she had last year the fact that this game was played at state college should re flect credit on the calibre of al bright's team this year albright has three of last year's men on their team and the remain ing two members of the quintette williamson and benfer are very promising to quote the albright bulletin the two new men on the team yost of williamson and ben fer of york high fame have al ready proven themselves indispen sable to the winning chances of the albright quintette by their superb passing and shooting benfer is easily the star of the team ; in each of three games for which the brown and white had the score in detail benfer scored more than half the points made by the albright team the probable line-up for the game which will be called at 8.00 p m tomorrow is as follows : albright lehigh heindel f ... p j white glassmire f ... a k white benfer c muthart baker g cook yost g cole on
