because of the excellent work that has been done during the past few seasons by the basketball and wrestling teams and taking into ac count the recognition that other col leges are giving to their respective basketball and wrestling teams the athletic committee at its april meeting held recently in drown hall decided to raise these teams to the standing at present occupied by the lacrosse and track teams af ter this season members of the bas ketball team who play eight full halves and members of the wrest ling team who participate in the in tercollegiate championship and also in three dual meets with teams in the intercollegiate league shall be awarded an l size 434x5 inches furthermore members of the bas ketball team who play in three games and members of the wrestling team who participate in one dual meet with a team in the intercollegiate league shall be awarded an laa this rule will go into effect next year for the present season the committee awarded the two teams their respective insignia lbb and lwt the following members of the committee were present : vice president emery prof w l wil son prof h r reiter s t har leman of the bethlehem steel co v b edwards l2 l b knox,'l2 a b gorman 13 and g p flick 14 notice all candidates for the relay team to be sent to the perm relays should report for practice imme diately e e wright mgr address on science is a philosophy of life an address on science is a phil osophy of life by mr paul el mer more will be given in the uni versity chapel at 8 p m thurs day april 18th this address is given under the auspices of phi be ta kappa and tau beta pi the hon orary societies of the university and replaces the usual phi beta kappa oration delivered at com mencement time the public is cor dially invited to attend mr more is well known as author and editor and probably may be considered the ablest and most scholarly critic in america he is a graduate of washington and har vard universities and has taught for several years at harvard and continued on third page continued on fourth page lehigh defeated baltimore city college at lacrosse saturday after noon by a score of 16 to 4 the game was fast but rather loosely played and the muddy field made luck a factor of some importance besides making the game amusing for the spectators lehigh was handicapped by the absence of jay who suffered a broken collar bone in practice and by injuries to sev eral regulars so that towards i!he end of the game numerous substi tutes were made to relieve first string men city college started the game with a rush wolf scoring a goal within the first minute of play and for some time after that outplayed lehigh and kept the ball dangerous ly near the latter's goal but lehigh braced and goals in rapid succes sion by wheaton williams and f b speed more than evened up the score schulz and martin also scored in this half for lehigh while capt keetch and mahool each tallied one for city college throughout the first half lehigh's principal fault was a tendency to overthrow passes and several times these sacrificed chances to score at the end of the first half the score was lehigh 9 city col lege 3 during the latter part of the first half rain began to fall and con tinued during the rest of the game making the field a sea of mud le high started the second half in championship form and keeping the ball on city college territory during almost all of the half quick ly ran the score up to 15 to 3 when knipp made city college's lone tal ly in the second half shortly be fore the whistle blew wheaton made lehigh's final goal making the to tal score 16 to 4 for lehigh wheaton was the particular star having nine goals to his credit williams's clever dodg ing was not only pretty to watch but effective and helped in scoring several goals while the attack had more to do than the defense par ticularly in the second half capt kennedy and carson demonstrated their skill when defensive work was needed keetch and mahool did the most conspicuous work for the visitors the line-up : city college lehigh pfeiffer goal hart hasson point carson primrose . cover point . kennedy price ist defense .. . raynor smoot . . . 2nd defense f r speed d.wilson 3rd defense hartdegen lehigh's only scoring came in the ninth driscoll out mchardy singled and was sacrificed to sec ond by o'keefe crichton singled and tapking brought in two runs for lehigh by a three-base hit with albrecht out by a fly to center field tapking's score did not count ;
