continued on fourth page college lecture in a game of snappy fielding le high last saturday afternoon at hoboken took from stevens the baseball game by the score of 11 to 5 the game was marked by effec tive hitting there being two home runs by jaeggli and mccaffrey and a two-base hit by bell in addition to thirteen singles for lehigh and seven for stevens lehigh's big inning was the sec ond when 5 of the runs were scor ed tapking singled and bell on a hit and run play singled to right field advancing tapking to third bell took second on the throw in grichton fanned albrecht singled scoring bell and tapking with albrecht on first rebert on a hit and run play advanced albrecht to third rebert on stealing second broke his ankle and driscoll was substituted pazzetti scored both albrecht and driscoll on a single o'keefe advanced pazzetti to sec ond on a single then machardy advanced both of these a base on a sacrifice mccaffrey scored o keefe on a single but died stealing second stevens's big innings were the 5th and 6th when they scored three and two runs respectively pazzet ti weakened at this point on account of previous sickness but the stev ens hitters were not mccaffrey hits — off pazzetti 8 a fairly large number of students attended the college meeting held last friday morning at 11 o'clock in packer hall at which time much important business was transacted the first matter taken up was that of passing a number of new resolutions new customs and fresh man regulations the following were passed to replace paragraphs in the y m c a handbook to replace paragraph 13 : pos ters or paint shall not be placed on any college buildings or on the fence at the entrance to the ath letic field to replace paragraph 21 at midnight on the night before open ing day a tie-up will be held be tween the two lower classes on the athletic field subject to the fol lowing rules : each class shall line up at least thirty abreast and at the pistol-shot shall attempt to tie up their oppo nents the presidents of the se nior and junior classes shall act as judges and all bound sophomores shall be brought to the senior pres ident and all bound freshmen shall be brought to the junior president who shall keep a tally at the end of 30 minutes the side having tied up the most number of men shall be declared the winner no man bound shall re-enter the tie-up cutting of ropes is abso lutely prohibited all participants shall either come in stocking feet or wear soft-soled gymnasium shoes a banner-rush shall take place on the afternoon of opening day the following new customs were passed : the presidents of the junior and sophomore classes are to be held responsible for the censorship of the freshman and sophomore pos ters respectively freshmen attending conference shall not be molested a number of new freshman reg ulations were also passed in order to avoid embarrasment and the stigma of freshness the freshmen must observe the follow ing rules : 1 wear the freshman cap dur ing the entire year except during the thanksgiving christmas and easter holidays between novem ber 1st and march 31st the regula tion freshman skating cap may be worn 2 not smoke on the campus including the athletic field or in drown hall 3 give upper classmen prefer ence in drown hall 4 not sit on any of the walls continued on third page haverford defeated lehigh on saturday at haverford in their an nual track meet by a score of 58 to 54 this being the first time in five years that haverford has been able to down the brown and white in this branch of sport haverford captured a majority of the track events while lehigh was stronger in the field the track was in good shape but a high wind was hard on the runners however two hav erford records went by the board the first of these was when froe licher beat his own record by put ting the shot 39 feet 7 inches in the 220-yard dash capt thomas of haverford broke the tape in 22 1/5 seconds one-fifth of a second better than the previous record whitney of lehigh also beat a haverford record when he made 21 feet 8 inches in the broad jump froelicher starred for haverford and was the highest point-winner of the meet with 17 to his credit he won the 120-yard hurdles and the shot-put tied for first place in the high jump and got second in the broad jump one lehigh record was broken whitney's jump of 21 feet 8 inches beating by 2 inches the old broad jump record which has stood for seven years for lehigh wliitney and bailey were the chief point-winners whit ney won the broad jump phil adelphia will lecture in the chapel on friday morning the 17th inst at 11 o'clock mr dodge is recognized as one of the leading mechanical engineers of the country he received his educational training at newark academy cornell university and rutgers college he has given special attention to the improve ment and manufacture of convey ing machinery and devices in 1903 he became president of the ameri can society of mechanical engin eers and his presidential address the money value of technical training has become a classic in technical literature the brown and white lehigh university legiate play-off that she has for sev eral years jncidently the brown and white did clinch second place had stevens caged two more goals however swarthmore and lehigh would have met for the second time this year and the garnet would have faced an entirely different proposition from the one she dis posed of so easily in her first inter collegiate contest lehigh's playing in the initial pe riod on saturday could not have been improved upon from the starting whistle until the end of the half the ball was almost continual ly in dangerous play near the oppo nents goal johns hopkins regis tering a tally in the single chance they had to score while the brown and white garnered five despite the good work of the hopkins goal keeper in the second half our representa tives slowed down a little although the ball was in play in our oppo nents territory for fully three fourths of the period perkins substituted for hart at goal was kept busy in the latter part of the half the hopkins attack registering two goals after hart was removed st john playing at centre was the bright particular star of the le high team he was in every play and did wonderful offensive and defensive work he easily
