no founder's day hop this year at a meeting of the arcadia held on tuesday night it was decided to postpone the founder's day flop [ indefinitely this action was taken as a result of the motion passed by the student body at the last col lege meeting which left the decision whether or not a dance should be held this year the night before founder's day as has been custom ary in the past the postponement of this dance is deemed advisable as a result of the miserable attend j ance experienced at these dances during the last few years when the bethlehem prepara tory school opened on tuesday sept 20 starting its thirty-third year the enrollment was the largest in the school's history the num ber enrolled 157 breaks all records for attendance both of boarders and day students there are two new members on the faculty and the physical and chemical laborato ries have received large additions in the way of equipment experi mental work in these branches will supplement the class work to a larger degree than ever before prof benj l miller of the geo logical department during the sum mer prepared an extensive report on the graphite and mineral paint ore of the state for the pennsylva nia geological survey asst prof j e stocker of the mathematics department attended the first term of the summer quar ter at the university of chicago he took up some advanced work in mechanics and astronomy it c gerwig to spent ast tues day in town l o emmerich 82 was here for the game on wednesday g r waltz to was in town on wednesday musical clubs an advisory committee has been appointed for the purpose of super vising the work of students during their freshman year and of giving them aid and advice therein the committee will meet regularly in the faculty room in packer hall at hours to be announced later all freshmen having any scholastic or other difficulties are directed to con fer with this committee the membeship of the committee is as follows : professor lambert chairman president drinker pro fessor klein professor thornburg professor palmer and mr emery at a joint meeting of the musical clubs held wednesday in drown hall r j hauk 12 was selected manager the club's financial standing was discussed and trips were suggested an urgent plea was put forward for candidates from all the four classes the first regular meeting will be held at drown hall on sunday next at three the election for leader of the mandolin club will take place provided a sufficient number of can didates report anyone playing a mandolin flute or guitar is urgently asked to be on hand the y m c a handbook com mittee wishes to announce that there are a number of handbooks left for distribution and will be glad to have all those who have not re ceived one call at the office of the secretary mass on sept 5 of heart failure superinduced by acute indi gestion lehigh wins opening game western md defeated 10--0 in first game under new rules the first foot-ball game played on lehigh field under the new rules resulted in a 10-0 victory over western maryland college the game on wednesday afternoon was far different from any before seen there the new rules making it more open and doing away with the mass play lehigh received the first kick-off at the western end of the field and rushed the ball down to western maryland's ten yard line there it was lost on an attempted forward pass and w m punted to heard the ball was again rushed back to the ten yard line but w m took a brace and held for downs they were unable to gain but kept the ball when lehigh was penalized time was up at this point the second quarter opened up with the ball in w m.'s possession on their own ten yard line heard lost twig's punt in the sun but cox recovered it on w m.'s 33 yard line knox and kennedy gained twenty yards between them before the ball was lost on a fumble twig punted out of bounds and the ball went to lehigh on western mary land's 40 yard line w m here held for downs but rouse downed stultz for a loss of seven yards kennedy got twig's punt on the fifty yard line but lehigh was un able to gain and heard punted to the twenty yard line a triple pass netted w m 15 yards but they lost the ball on downs just before time was up the feature of the third quarter was sprague's 35 yard gain on a forward pass in this quarter reese blocked an attempt at a field goal and fell on the ball for lehigh the ball was then advanced to the center of the field by kennedy knox and heard rouse then gained twenty-five yards on a for ward pass the fourth quarter opened with the ball in lehigh's possession on w m.'s 23 yard line several subs went in and then g wood knox and dobbins advanced the ball far enough to enable knox to carry it through center for a touchdown the attempt to kick the
