continued on fourth page notice on tuesday last the arts and science club held its second regular meeting at the club rooms in sau con hall a letter from dr drink er was read in which he thanked the club for its thoughtfulness in remembering his birthday the following new men were elected to membership — f r abbott m b bates j h diefenderfer k t kent s h sauber and c r wag ner all members of the freshman class professors blake and palmer and messrs moore robbins and schulz were the honorary members who were present while messrs daniels callen perle and mitman were guests of the club the subject for the evening was history and economics two highly interesting papers were read the first by a m stewart 13 on commercial education and the second by e s colling 12 on oil and oil production a gen eral discussion of the papers fol lowed in which professor blake professor palmer and messrs dan iels callen mitman and kerr par ticipated a vote as to which of the two papers was the better having been taken mr colling's paper be ing the one chosen the club ad journed and the remainder of the evening was spent in satisfying the inner man foot-ball dinner in accordance with the letter of dr drinker to mr lowry pub lished in our last issue the follow ing invitation has been sent to all students and members of the teach ing force : south bethlehem pa nov 28 1910 the pleasure of your company is requested at a dinner to be given by the trustees of the university to the foot-ball squad and coach reit er at the college commons on sat urday december 3 at 5 p m please reply by attached postal card by next mail the time has purposely been set at 5 00 p m to permit of time for preparation for the minstrel show since this is a new departure and as there is promise of much inter esting discussion every man should be out all candidates for the basket-ball team must hand their names to eitherw l merkle or r s crump before dec 7th notice the 1912 epitome board would like to have on or before december 15th a list of senior honors the men are kindly requested to place the lists in the gag box in packer flail several weeks ago cards provid ing space for name class address etc were distributed among the student body some of these cards have not been returned and all the men are urged to turn them in promptly so as to facilitate the com piling of the student roll those who have not received cards may secure them at the supply bureau sition and at the end of the season the l men of that team shall se lect two men final selection to be made by the college-at-large at a college meeting the election of assistant managers shall be ratified by the eligibility committee of the athletic committee after due con sideration of the man's scholastic standing this rule to go into ef fect immediately with the election of the present assistant foot-ball managers the following committee was appointed to confer with dr drinker with regard to arrange ments for the foot-ball dinner : — meeting of the arcadia was held on thursday evening in drown hall reports of the la fayette smoker committee and house committee were made and accepted the llouse committee was empowered to amend or add to the present house rules and to have same printed the question of the election of assistant manager was taken up and the following recommendations will be presented to the college : — assistant managers to all athletic teams shall be elected in the follow ing manner : members of the soph omore class desiring to become as sistant managers of any athletic team shall hand their names to the wilbur mr emery as vice president of the university was given the privilege of attending meetings of the com mittee in dr drinker's absence on recommendation of captain black the following men were awarded their ls for the 1910 foot-ball season : h k rouse j i vela l r p reese c r wylie c g harwig a g black g r wood a m kennedy e f price h cox t p dobbins l b knox r wood r s dunn n m downs the following men re ceived monograms : bailey w s o'gorman r c watson o b ackerly w j schmidt j z bay less flick e b goyne c r wag ner r goldberg c d cann and l a rehfuss class numerals were awarded to throm van nort and w c mayer the following men who played on the founder's day freshman base ball team were awarded their class numerals : gatch h r shel lenberger h k kurtz w s o'gorman f e driscoll b comp ton c e siebecker w e how ard r brady h h mayers r p galloway w r brown class numerals were awarded to the members of the freshman relay team as follows : weber todd morse murphy chaffe leslie of the freshman foot-ball team was also awarded his numerals the following men on the soph omore base ball team received nu merals : l j e sindel r drant p j macmeniman b mchardy r c watson a d jamison d thomas a f eberly j p stokes schall f w wright g c hill the schedules for the gymnasium team the track team and the base ball team were submitted but defi nite action could not be taken these schedules were referred to the executive committee for ar rangement and will be acted upon by a special meeting of the com mittee at as early a date as is pos sible a number of suggestions were made by the chairman of the grounds committee and he was or dered to report recommendations at the special meeting to be called the executive committee was in structed to draw up a new schedule of admission prices to sports and submit it at the next regular meet ing of the athletic committee an amendment to section 4 ar ticle viii of the by-laws was passed so that the section now reads : — no student shall wear the numerals of his class unless he shall have been awarded that privi lege by the athletic committee upon the recommendation of the captain of his class team lehigh played the last game of the season of 1910 at washington on thanksgiving day when she met defeat by the close score of 6-3 at the hands of georgetown univer sity lehigh was well represented at the game by a large number of alumni and students who witness ed a well fought game the close ness of the score indicates the evenness of the battle and although both scores were made as the re sult of grandstand runs the game was nip and tuck all the way lehigh scored early in the first quarter when dunn recovered the ball on costello's fumble the lit ' tie half-back ran the ball from le high's six yard line for 85 yards and it looked like a touchdown for the brown and white carter proved too speedy however and pulled dunn down on georgetown's 19 yard line the first two plays failed to gain and price fell back for a drop kick which resulted in lehigh's only score georgetown scored her six points as the result of costello's phenome nal run receiving the ball on a punt on his 55 yard line the blue and gray quarter-back ran the half length of field for a touchdown by clever dodging and good inter ference wymard kicked the goal this ended the scoring for the game , lehigh had one more opportunity to score by dint ," of some hard line plunging by cox in the third quarter the ball was placed on the four yard line as the thirds quarter was called georgetown stiffened her defense however and the ball was lost on downs and punted out of danger during the early part of the game georgetown had sev eral chances to score but lehigh's defense coupled with poor judg
