thursday at 7.30 p m in the gymnasium foot ball — lehigh vs univer sity of va at norfolk va satur day october 16 *+. founder's day hop elections held a meeting of the athletic committee held on thursday october 7 at which time the follow ing officers and committees were elected for 1909-1910 chairman l b treat treas urer w l wilson secretary and financial secretary c l thorn burg executive committee c l thornburg l bernstein s t harleman j anderson l b treat alumni members to the committee on sports w l wil son other members being the undergraduate members of the committee the following members of the 1909 team lacrosse team received l's:—c gonzales a k brum baugh j c gorman w l archer j b luckie j f zouck a s osbourne j s rowan j g mccoy m r lesher r a harrower the following members of the lacrosse team received mono grams:—r b osbourne o b istiesen n j ewing j c heil man w a maeder the elections of a s osbourne captain c s kenney manager and a c morris assistant manager were approved the following members of the 1909 track team received l's monograms and numerals:—a l willgoose f f couch c l aman w c vanßlarcom g h crocker 11 m riley h r cox j r dawson a wells o l graham j w tremlett the following men received monograms and numerals:—w j gilligan f f trotter j j cannon r p baird l b knox r l aman w x allen was awarded a mono gram . the following received numer als:—l lawrence l b treat w s herman o h smith c r bully f v kesselman a t schultz and h j williams the election of 11 m riley captain and f p lawrence manager were approved ■«» at a meeting of the sections in taylor hall the following men have been chosen section heads : w w broa&bent j l mosher r j batz c n shaffuer and it m riley j l mosher was chosen dormitory chief the final preparations for the dance on wednesday night have been made and everything points to a successful night music will be furnished by torpey's orchestra which has always made a specialty of dance music there will be twenty-four dances with several extras since there is no restriction upon the time of closing drown hall will be tastefully decorated with palms and banners refresh ments will be served by a reliable caterer and nothing should be lack ing to make the evening a pleasant one although instituted primari ly for the returning alumni the dance is open to every one in col lege without restriction . the price of admission will be three dollars founder's day address attention is again called to the address to be given on founder's day in the packer memorial church by judge burlington the speaker selected to deliver the address is a thinker an orator and a fine man in general and members of the student body will find it well worth their time to be present lehigh 6 ursinus 6 lehigh tied ursinus in the best foot ball game played on lehigh field this season prom start to finish every player on the lehigh team showed great improvement in offensive as well as defensive work and this considering the warm afternoon for a foot ball game shows that our team is being de veloped fast although a little late in the season in the first half lehigh defended the east goal with the disadvantage of the sun but had the first kick off martin kicked to ursinus and in several plays which lehigh could not defend carried the ball to the 25-yard line where they were forced to surrender it by kicks and a run by street lehigh got the ball to her 20-yard line when west fell on the ball badly passed by wylie by two long end runs and a line plunge by gay ursinus made the first touchdown gay kicked the goal in the second half lehigh changed her line-up and the result was apparent ursinus kicked to bilheimer and street made an end run martin returned the kick but ursinus fumbled and by line plunges of the back field cox scored a touchdown martin kicked the goal from a difficult angle heard saved a second touchdown from ursinus by an excellent tackle of gay as to weight the teams were very evenly matched ursinus averaging 168 pounds and lehigh between 165 and 170 pounds the lineup follows : lehigh position ursinus lawson l e sloneker treat l t...r thompson martin l g georges wylie 0 knaner cox goals from touchdowns gay martin referee dwyer u of p umpire bemis u of p students entertained in gymnasium the first smoker of the year was held in the gymnasium last fri day night the committee i charge is to be congratulated on th varied and most interesting pr gram arranged and which ever man present enjoyed first was selection by the band which w followed by three good leliigh and a song by everyone presen f p lawrence announced th first speaker sam strauss wh explained that it was necessary fo the men on the scrub team to com out regularly so that they may gi the varsity a little stiffer practic the trouble now is that with ne men coming out continually t much of the time is used in learn ing signals which does not permit the working out of trick plays another song was sung and then the head-liner was turned on a four round boxing bout between young fitz and pat sheehan both of south bethlehem it was very fast and brought forth much applause the result was a draw as announced by the referee jimmy mahoney the band gave another selection which was followed by a speech from dickson . in his characteristic way he urged that no one feel discouraged with the outlook of this year's foot ball season and said that with the sup port of the college the season would end with a winning team oapt treat supplemented these remarks by saying that this year the coach had the hardest job on his hands that he has had since he has been at lehigh for there are a number of green men on the team and it will take steady training to get the men working together a quartette from the glee club rendered some good selections which were heartily applauded the next number wasa wrestling bout bet ween davies 10 and st john m.2 although the men worked for six minutes on the mat neither secured a fail — referee gorman the band quite outdid themselves in their last number after which manager 11 p smith gave a short talk the evening's entertainment closed with the sing ing of
