rutgers 26 lehigh 22 the gymnasium team was de feated by rutgers last saturday night in a closely contested meet the best performer for lehigh was j m bley who easily took first place on the horizontal bar bailey also won first in tumbling with ease the star of the eutger's team was cook who did exception ally good work on the rings taking first place with jannus second the chef d oeuvre fourth game of the season lehigh met with her first defeat at the hands of the swarthmore five saturday evening lehigh showed weakness in shooting baskets but her team work excelled that of her opponents giving her many more chances to score than swarthmore the swarthmore team was the first on the floor and was greeted with a short cheer shortly after ward the lehigh squad appeared and was enthusiastically given a long lehigh after a short prac tice the game commenced moore started the scoring for swarthmore by a goal from a foul following it up by a goal from the field merkel scored the first two points for lehigh by two goals from fouls while muthart shot the first goal from then on to the end of the half swarthmore displayed al most spectacular ability at shooting the half ended with the score 18 to 9 in favor of swarthmore in the second half lehigh took a brace and it looked for a while as if she were going to take and hold the lead but again inability to shoot proved our stumbling block and the game ended with the score 30 to 22 in favor of swarthmore features of the game were merk el's foul shooting muthart's goal from field and lawson's goal from mid-field moore darnell and smith did the best work for swarth more during the second half eebert replaced merkel and roo ney replaced sindel who had previ ously taken butler's position hill substituted for darnell and the team instructed to elect a captain cornell 5 lehigh 2 although lehigh's wrestling team did not bring buck a victory from cornell it did comeback with the knowledge that it had made a creditable showing against op ponents of longer experience and more tested ability while cornell obtained five points out of the seven they secured but one fall the rest of the decisions being rendered because of aggressiveness of the two points secured by le high one was from a fall and the other from work a number of the bouts were very closely contest ed particularly the one in the 115 pound class between saeger and johnson the tournament started with the lightest weights a nine minute bout between saeger of lehigh and johnson of cornell the honors were so closely divided that the
