lehigh 2 princeton 16 lehigh was defeated in the first game of the season by princeton last wednesday ; score 16 to 2 the playing was slow and un interesting due to the deadening effect of the sultry weather on the players during the first two innings the tigers scored ten points the result oi several well placed bunts coupled with costly errors on lehigh's part the lineup princeton lkhigh tibet food and lo ! and behold there was his donkey waiting for him with the load of quinces all safe evidently sign number two from allah in favor of the americans — to whom suleiman tendered the quinces as an offering — but now the colony was in better shape and while appreciating the good will manifested they paid for the quinces — and suleiman has ever since been their faithful and de voted friend and follower it is interesting to note that this was another donkey not the one of the egg episode and that this was this particular donkey's first visit to jerusalem no wonder that sulei man was impressed the american colony now num bers over one hundred and ten members they started as a band of fourteen from chicago some twentj^-nine years ago under the leadership of horatio g spafford they belong to no sect but follow the teachings of christ in the practice of charity and loving kindness they have won the re spect and friendship of the natives a marked evidence of this is shown in the fact that the turkish authorities for the past thirteen years have committed to the care of the colony administered by the ladies of the colony the entire management and control of the turkish mohammedan school for girls the only school of the kind here when the colony took hold of it thirteen years ago there were about 50 scholars and the entire school time five hours was devoted to the study of the koran today the school numbers 350 and the authorities permit four of the school hours to be de voted to the study in arabic of of reading writing arithmetic geography and grammar also sew ing and fitting embroidery iron ing arid knitting the remaining hour is given to the koran the sisters of the colony do no prose letizing at the school striving only to elevate the girls by instruction that will raise them above the helpless condition of the average mohammedan woman these american colony people appear to us to have built up an ideal social system of their own moral — law-abiding with an abso lute community of interest — no continued on second page tibet—on the roof of the world is the subject of an illus trated talk sunday evening in drown hall at 6.30 the speaker is eev f e nitzschke of kliza beth n j who has prepared a very interesting lecture upon christian work being done in this great and beautiful section of the world which as yet is little known by the white races billy burkhart who for the last thirteen years has been on lehigh field acting in the triple capacity of trainer ground keeper and policeman has given up his position tatj beta pi saturday april 2—base ball game lehigh vs stevens on le high field at 3 p m sunday april 3—meeting of sophomore cotillion club delta tan delta house at 11 a m y m c a meeting at 0.30 p m monday april 4—brown and white board meeting in drown hall at 5 p m lacrosse practice -
