oratorio society gounod's redemption beauti fully rendered in chapel last thursday night the re demption 7 an oratorio by chas tfounod was rendered by the ora torio society of the bethlehems before a large and appreciative audience in the packer memorial chapel the work consists of three parts and a prologue portraying the creation fall of man and the promise of redemption part i depicts the sufferings and death of christ ; part li the resurrection and incidents up to the time of the ascension the third part treats of the pentecost and the completion of the plan of the redemption the chorus was well trained and tendered their many intricate num bers in admirable style of the soloists the sopranos were miss cassell and miss mary hall both of south bethlehem their singing was excellent their voices sweet and they were sure of their notes mrs j 11 . ogburn alto was remarkable for her tone qualities mr henry gurney of washington tenor sang his many difficult pas sages with great sweetness and sureness of tone and the basso dr george c anthony delighted his audience with the wonderful ex pression and feeling which his voice portrayed they were ac companed by a m weiugartner's l v symphony orchestra of 35 pieces which rendered the score irreproachably great credit must be given to our organist mr t edgar shields who brought his chorus of 90 voices to such a high plane and it is the general express ion that these oratorios are too lew and far between 1912 epitome board at a meeting of the 1912 epitome board in drown hall on sunday afternoon an defeat on saturday when they played the first of the spring series with lafayette lafayette scored in the first inning when anderson and croll went asleep on second and allowed king's good throw to get past them swank scoring from first in lehigh's half of the same inning eebert and king each singled but borden and fisher failed to help them along after the iirst inning the game went along in fine style until the seventh in that period the team blew up and seemed desirous of making up for six innings of good ball croll's rank error five hits two bases on balls and a little poor head-work netted lafayette eight runs in the eighth bilheimer replaced wolfram in the box and moore took croll's place at short bil heimer was hit hard and yielded five runs in the two innings he pitched the season the track team sprung a sur prise upon its most ardent support ers on saturday afternoon at new brunswick n j when it defeated the eutgers college team by the score of 60 points to 4<h points all the events were keenly contest ed but a cold strong wind prevent ed the times made from being ex ceptionally fast for lehigh graham crocker kennedy and williams were the most consistent point winners while havens who won four events was rutgers star man the meet resulted in the breaking of two lehigh records the pole vault by graham and the hammer throw by crocker the team deserves much commendation for the very credit able showing made in view of the fact that the men have not had any coaching or training summary — 100 yard dash won by hav ens rutgers second williams lehigh time 10 won by graham lehigh second van nor t lehigh continued on third ivijjc lacrosse team ends season with well played game on friday last the lacrosse team won the final championship game of the season from stevens by the score of 6-1 the team played a hard and consistent game through out and showed the results of the season's hard work until the last minute of the first half neither side scored the first tally being made by rowan just before the whistle blew the le high attack kept their opponents on the defensive during the greater part of this period and several scores were only pre vented by brilliant work on the part of the stevens goal in the second half however the lehigh attack man aged to draw the stevens defense away from the goal with the re sult that before the half ended live goals were scored while stev ens managed to score but once lehigh's defense played better than at any time this season cheek ing and covering well and using excellent judgement in taking the man coming in with the ball at the proper time special credit is due boetler who at center played his position in a beautiful manner aiding defense and attack at all critical times ewing at third at tack is also deserving of special mention for his hard and steady game the spirit displayed by the whole team throughout was per haps the most striking feature of the game and one which augurs avell for
