a meeting of the college was held friday morning to discuss legislation on the hazing question gilmore secretary of the arca dia read the list of changes of cus tom which that organization sug gested to the student body the matter was then thrown open to discussion jacobosky 07 op posed the proposed changes on the ground that the privileges of the sophomore class would there by be reduced to almost nothing his arguments were answered by walton 07 who contended that the loss of time and standing brought about by excessive hazing warranted some restriction on the methods now in vogue kniffen 10 gave his views as a future soph omore he merely reinforced walton's statements speirs 09 looking at the matter from an other point of view held that the immunity hour served only to al low the nerveless to hide himself the final note was almost un animous in favor of the adoption of the new customs no freshman shall be in any way interfered with or in any way hazed after 6 p m unless caught when voluntarily on the streets after 7 p m juniors shall not take active part in hazing affairs or rushes except to organize the freshmen on the night before opening day opening day rush and the night before founder's day the law and order committee shall have jurisdiction for the en forcement of these rules and shall also have authority to restrain and punish excesses in hazing mustard and cheese lacrosse lehigh scored a decisive victory over pennsylvania state college on last thursday evening defeat ing the team representing that in stitution by the score of 40 to 12 the attendance at this as well as at the previous games played here this season was very large crowd ing the seating capacity of the gymnasium to its utmost the game was fiercely contested trom start to finish although in the first half the home team did not show its customary snap and speed this fact coupled with the good covering of the visitors defense helped to keep the score to its low figure 13 to 9 in lehigh's favor the state college team did most of its scoring in this half securing three goals and three points from free throws the style of play in the second half corresponded more closely with the form usually displayed by our team and state could do little to check the scoring securing only three points from fouls and failing to throw a single goal both teams made changes in the second half kiefe taking trout man's place for lehigh and bur nett replacing waha at center for state college the summary : lehigh state anderson forward ticknor troutman forward herman kiefe street center waha burnett travis guard funston porter guard dv barry goals — anderson 5 street 5 kiefe 3 porter 2 travis 2 funston 3 fouls — travis r waha 5 burnett 1 referee clarke temple college time keepers — macminn lehigh har ding state time of halves 20 minutes in one of the most interesting and closely contested meets ever seen here the lehigh gymnastic team tied . with the team from rutgers last saturday evening the at tendance was not large but en thusiasm and spirit were not lack ing lehigh's team showed up well against their more experienced competitors in the first event brown l tied gits r for first place young l took second on the side-horse he showed good form and deserv ed great credit for his work in the clubs frankenfield l tied thompson r for first trembly did excellent work on the parallels and was awarded first place on the rings capt scott showed his usual good form and executed some very difficult stunts in the last event tumbling rutgers took first and tied with lehigh for second the decisions on the last two events did not appeal to the audi ence as being exactly just had their opinions been taken moore and brown would have been awarded a full second place summary in order of events horizontal bar gies r 4 ; brown l i 4 cranmer r i 4 moore l score : lehigh 24 rutgers 24 mr c w mayer of newark academy was the judge and mr w f banks lehigh was the an nouncer rev green of south bethlehem was the speaker of the sunday meeting of the y m c a he directed his attention to the evils of selfishness and the compromise of principle for personal gain prof lambert has been ill with pneumonia for the last two weeks but on monday his condition was greatly improved the usual line-up in lacrosse took place on saturday afternoon in the cage tipping and passing preceeded the short but lively scrimmage and showed that the men are fast rounding into form capt carlock directed the prac tice at a special meeting of the mustard and cheese association held wednesday evening the re signation of president stair 07 was accepted s g smith 07 was elected to succeed him h a macintosh 07 was elected secre tary t h donaldson last year's coach was retained this year the brown and white vol xiv lehigh university college meeting south bethlehem pa 5 thursday february 20 1907 no 35 f hopkinson smith basket=ball 40 - 12 lehigh defeats perm state new customs adopted course third lecture of the v.m.c.a gym meet lehigh 24 rutgers 24 a large and appreciative audi ence gathered in the main lecture room of the physical laboratory on monday evening to hear the third of the series of entertainments given under the auspices of the young men's christian association in introducing mr f hopkinson smith dr drinker spoke of the many activities which have marked his versatile life as an engineer ar tist author and lecturer and de r scribed him as the typical ameri can gentleman of culture and refine ment mr smith read from several of his novels and short stones begin ning with the well known colonel carter of cartersville he drew a delightful picture of the dear old southern gentleman with his gen erous unselfish heart and firm be lief in the pass-book and the ever-faithful negro chad who was continually striving to make ends meet the next story was that of jonathan the new hampshire woodsman under whose rough and rugged exterior there beat a heart of gold all of mr smith's works display a most intimate knowledge of hu man nature and the irresistingly charming sense of humour which finds something of joy in every phase of life one of bob's tramps and the several selections which he read from caleb smith master diver included moreover a pathos which touched the hearts of everyone who heard him mr smith closed the evening with the delightful sketch the waterlog ged town
