hall at 1:00 p m sat urday in charge of manager bud nutting the meet is scheduled to start at 4:00 p m although greatly hampered by lack of material coach gu lick has succeeded in building up a very creditable freshman team he has been especially pointing them for this initial meet and it is a well balanced team that will meet blair to morrow the relay team will probably con on page 4 col 5 the initial meeting for the formation of the spike shoe so ciety was held in the trophy room tuesday at 4:30 p m with six letter men and coach kanaly present the preliminary discussion concerned the petition to the na tional chapter the signing of which was postponed to a later date in order that the letter men not present at the meeting might have a chance to come in at the start the spike shoe is an honor society composed of the letter men of track and cross country or men in these sports who have given the best part of their time to their development or the de velopment of track men and its primary interests are to pro con on page 3 col 3 the january meeting of the sword and crescent society was held at the sigma nu house on wednesday evening in the form of a dinner with a discussian af ter the meal the principal part of the discussion was relative to the increase of the activities of the society and it was decided that dances should be held from time to time sponsored by the organization at the present time there are not nearly enough college dances at lehigh and it was thought that this was one of the best societies in college to foster these affairs a commit tee composed of pakenham bell shaheen and bond was appoint ed to submit plans for these dances in the near future con on page 4 col 4 the matter of awarding cer tificates denoting the winning frosh make it two straight against m'berg yearlings break long-standing jinx of allentown court by de cisive victory initial recital well received series inaugurated in splen did renditions by three artists simmer session circular to be announced soon details of courses and teach ing assignments to be issued in pamphlet dates unchanged familiar selections the final steps in the transfer of the ownership of the former bethlehem steel field from the bethlehem steel company to le high university were completed during the last week in decem ber the deal was announced early in the fall but the final steps were not completed until this time one of the things which was essential before the university could have a clear title was that the moravian church waive a lien which it had on the property for many years the matter was brought up be fore the church authorities and they graciously agreed to waive this lien this means that the field is now the absolute posses sion of the university although the steel soccer team has the use of it for the remainder of their season another agreement which was stipulated 1 in the sale was that the employees of the steel company will have free use of the tennis courts for the next two years although an extensive use of the field by the students will not take place until the beginning of spring weather students are at liberty to avail themselves of the use of the facilities before that time the definite plans for the use of the field in the spring have not as yet been com pleted but the tentative ones as outlined by graduate manager petrikin provide for the use of con on page 4 col 3 in a game characterized by numerous fouls spectacular shooting and stubborn though ineffective guarding muhlen berg bowed last wednesday eve ning before the superior team play of the swift brown and white combination this con test gave lehigh a second deci sive victory over its neighbor ing rivals the score being 44 30 a week earlier lehigh won with the score standing at 40-22 the play from start to finish wa fast and hard-fought al though frequent interruptions from the eagle-eyed referee and numerous substitutions slowed it up considerably muhlen berg took an early and threaten ing lead scoring six points while lehigh tallied on a single foul throw however they were unable to maintain this margin especially after cdptain clymer was taken from the game on personal fouls which he con tracted within the first seven minutes of play con on page 2 col 3 the accurate tossing of zieg enfuss lanky muhlenberg cen ter who accounted for six of the first eight points bewildered the lehigh team for a time but when the brown and white de fense tightened the lead soon swung to the visitors with the score at 9-7 muhlenberg mo schaub netted his first field goal putting the two teams on an equal footing after this time lehigh was never headed altho swimmers to meet c.u.atwashingt'n frosh wrestling last monday wealth of material insures representative team before exams last meet for lehigh team the plans for the erection of the memorial gates at the en trance of the gymnasium are progressing and it is expected that the drive to raise the funds for this project will be started shortly after the beginning of the second term at the regular monthly meeting of omicron delta kappa on monday eve ning professor eckfeldt who is chairman of the committee which is securing plans and es timates for the construction and erection of the gates submitted some tentative designs furnish ed by the bethlehem ornamental iron works more designs were to be submitted this week by the bethlehem fence company and also by a lehigh graduate of hazleton the approximate cost will be between fifteen hundred and two thousand dollars all of which it is hoped can be raised by the students themselves two other questions which were discussed at length by the fraternity were the election of student managers of sports and the use of the name of lehigh in the future by organizations on the campus such as student orchestras which are conducted by individuals and are not stu dent activities open to all men as the regular student organi zations are con on page 4 col 3 the former question was dis cussed at considerable length the general opinion being that the present system was not the best one possible finally a committee composed of dean mcconn bell and p e roberts was appointed to draw up a ten tative plan to be presented to fraternity at the next meeting and if approved to be present ed to the board of control the majority of the members who competition keen the preliminary announce ments of the regular summer schools of the university will be issued within the next week containing complete lists of the courses to be given this sum mer both the required and make-up summer school courses are listed as well as the special courses for teachers there will be a total of eight-nine courses taught this summer with a tea ching staff of thirty-four men this is the largest number of both courses and instructors that has ever been proposed for any summer session the dates of the sessions will be ap con on page 3 col 5 the freshman greatly increase the interest of the average student in this course this year's book will be sort of a preliminary edi tion that is the defects and dif ficulties as pointed out by the students themselves will be not ed and the authors will rewrite the book on those parts which need it as soon as the weak points are determined the book will also be sent out to sev eral other institutions and performers on this occasion in addition to mr shields were miss pauline michel of bethle hem violin and mr william littlewood cello con on page 4 col 6 the program although long showed a very nice judgment in the selection and arrangement of the numbers starting with the bach prelude in e flat for sthe organ mr shields played the chorale and another pre lude and fugue in g minor these pieces the great classics of the organ were admirably played the performer showed his familiarity with the spirit and works of bach a familiarity gained through years of close association with the music of nason fall 5 33 ; waring de feated sterner fall 3:53 145-lb class trantum defeated eckrote con on page 4 col 6 coach sheridan's lehigh grapplers will match bar chan ceries and half nelsons with the princeton exponents of the mat sport on saturday evening 7:30 at taylor gymnasium the brown and white mat tnen are still flushed with their brilliant victory over the syra cuse team last saturday while ithe tiger wrestlers are still stinging from the upset occa sioned them by perm the le high team tossed syracuse to the depths of a 31-0 indignity while the princeton men offered stub born resistance to the quakers finally to fall victims by the close tally of 12-10 there can be no comparison between the syracuse and princeton teams however and a dogged battle may be expected from the tig coach sheridan's proteges are in the pink of physical condition and the entire team should be truly representative of lehigh the tiger gprapplers likewise are primed for the meet and have a tartar night in an attempt to add fordham uni versity to its list of victims the brown and white will travel to fordham to play this important game for the first time in sev eral years the game should be a thriller from start to finish as the ford ham quintet has embarked on what promises to be as good if not a better season than the ma roon has ever enjoyed on the court including the record set by the 1924-25 outfit which lost only one game in sixteen the fordham team has a perfect string of victories to its credit for the present year having won five straight games defeating such teams as st stephens catholic university and holy cross st stephens was defeat ed by a score of 42 to 17 and catholic university 26 to 21 while the holy cross score was 23 to 15 although the maroon was de cidedly off form last week in the catholic university game coach kelleher expects it to return to its real stride this week coach buddy lingle has his men primed for the game and it should prove to be a close
