a meeting of the junior class will be held at 1.30 on wednesday afternoon in saucon hall to consid er the results of the election last week in which two candidates were tied for president and athletic rep resentative perm state 3 lehigh 2 a hard game to lose was the universal comment after the close contest with pennsylvania state college on lehigh field last satur day afternoon only three hits were secured off hesse's delivery and it was only a combination of unfortunate circumstances in the ninth inning coupled with an error in the seventh that gave state the game lacrosse continued on page three the sophs beat the freshmen in | a hotly contested game of lacrosse on friday afternoon at 4 o'clock both teams acquitted themselves | well considering the little practice that many of the players had rte freshmen scored first after j a few minutes of play and it seem j ed that they would have everything j their own way but the sophs got j i together and soon had a goal to \ their credit with the score 2 to i in favor of the freshmen in the lat ter part of the second half 1909 took advantage of the weakening j of the freshmen defense and scored two goals making the final score 3 to 2 in favor of the sophs gonzalez and jack homer \ deserve credit for their excellent work in defending their respective goals line-up : sophs freshmen i gonzalez goal homer ; hasler point sasser i callen cover point gorman capt osbourne,a.s.first defense gilmore zouck second defense reber , osbourne,r.b third defense smith j morris capt center lawrence i boyd third attack rowan digby maeder second attack caff all pillow first attack ehmann wolfe out home feters walters j in home schall summary : goals pillow maecl > er wolfe rowan ehmann ref 1 1 j.eree j b carlock 07 timekeep 1 j ers fasenmeyer 07 moore 07 ! goal umpires jessup 08 lowen gruud 08 time of halves 15 minutes the closing meeting of the chemical society was held m the parlors of the eagle hotel on thursday evening last a e el gar 05 read a very interesting paper entitled chemical research ; he especially considered the hard ening and exact chemical constitu ents of cements this work has all been carried on under the personal direction of dr ull 1 ; render 07 followed him on the pro gram ably discussing the sani tary inspection of the south beth lethem milk supply after a short discussion of the papers the regular form of busi ness meeting was held it was de cided to send out a circular letter to all graduate chemists notifying them of their election as honorary members of the society the 15 i prize kindly offered by dr scho 1 ber to the writer of the best regular paper was awarded to lafferran dre officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows : president guerber ; vice presi i dent bates ; secretary maddock , i treasurer coyle directly following the business meeting g l hoppes 83 served the members of the society an excel lent banquet r l lafferrandre retiring president acted as toast master and the following toasts 1 were responded to : dr ujlman i'm from missouri show me g c beck 03 shaking swamp a a diefenderfer 03 what i i've been doing since christmas a e edgar 05 how to ap proach the ladies e baettie why i recently gave up smoking s h salisbury 06 * ! ? ! *. ulman 07 guerber 08 kent 09 lynch 08 and skidgell 10 also responded dr drinker was a very welcome guest of the occasion and address ed the members of the society prior to the toast list hie spoke of the successfulness of the various engi neering societies at lehigh and wished the school of chi 1 try : most successful future the society wished to tend a continued on page three c e spiel this annual function of the civ ils will be held at the gymnasium this year instad of at the brighton as has been the custom in the past this innovation was decided upon by a large vote at the april meet ing on account of the fact of the brighton being too small and also because the civils wished to get in line with now prevailing tendency to hold the different gatherings on the campus as far as possible the committee consisting of dr drinker prof wilson kent 07 macminn 07 petersen 08 got schall 08 warnke 08 and moore oq have been working hard and results will speak for themselves they wish to announce that the feed will excell that of any of the previous spiels and that the neces sary changes in the program due to the new meeting place will be fully up to the expectations each one present will get a souvenir program and also a useful souvenir suitably marked members need only show their membership tickets for admit tance and to all others the price will be so cents the date is saturday evening may 25th at 8 o'clock those who do not come will surely regret it the teams representing the chemical society and the arts and science club will play on wednes day afternoon after the varsity game the brown and white lehigh university south bethlehem pa tuesday may 21 1907 last meeting of the year chemical society delivered by dr w l estes college lecture no 57 base ball vol xiv a very interesting and instruc tive lecture on the modern doc trine of prevention was delivered on friday morning by dr william l estes former lecturer in physi ogy and hygiene this was the first of two lectures which dr es tes will deliver before the college on this subiect and was prepara tory to the second the speaker briefly touched upon the body and its organs with their functions in order to lay a basis for a full understandng of the prob lems concerned in the subject under discussion which will be dealt with next friday morning calendar wednesday may 22 1908 class meeting in saucon hall at 1.30 base ball eastern college of new york on lehigh field erubs play lafayette scrubs at easton friday may 24 college lecture in physical laboratory at n by dr w l estes outdoor smoker on the campus at 7 saturday may 25 base ball la fayette on lehigh field annual c e society spiel in gym at 8 notice a i b r ..
