              rev s u mitman addresses opening meeting the first meeting of the young men's christian association was held on sunday evening in christ mas hall the meeting was quite well attended considering the fact that it was the first meeting of the year the rev s u mitman acting chaplain was the speaker of the evening and his address concerned itself mainly with the two views of life taken by men in general the optimistic and pessimistic views he urged all association men espe sially to live with optimistic views bible study classes will begin next sunday morning at 9.30 o'clock in christmas hall or in the rooms of various leaders as may seem more convenient rev mr thaeler of the mora vian church will address the meet ing on next sunday evening should be secured at once the athletic tickets are not sell ing as fast as they should especially among the new men the upper classmen buy the tickets at the opening of each season but the underclassmen pay a few fifty cents single admittances before they wake up to the advantage ojf getting twenty fifty-cent admittanfces for five dollars the committee in charge of ath letics at lehigh has adopted this method of putting the various teams on a firm financial basis and it is only by the entire student body purchasing season tickets that the teams we now have can be given needed support the price at which the tickets are sold leaves little grounds for refusing to help any athletics and it is earnestly hoped that the remaining under graduates will purchase season tickets before the foot ball game on wednesday founder's day announcement the 26th celebration of founder's day will be held on thursday morning october 12th 1905 at 11 o'clock the founder's day ad j dress in memory of the founder of ■ the university asa packer will be delivered by the hon hampton l carson attorney-gen eral of penn sylvania in connection with these i exercises will occur the inaugura i tion of henry sturgis drinker as ! president of the university the installation address will be given by robert h sayre esq president of the board of trustees an alumni address will be given by mr frank pl howe lehigh 78 college meeting the first college meeting for the present year was held on friday at 11 o'clock in the large assem bly room of the physical labora tory the meeting was opened by the singing of the alma mater and three good lehigh s president gott of the class of 1906 presided after several words concerning foot ball by captain herman and manager smith a hustling com mittee was appointed the hus tling committee is composed of the f duowing : m-cmullen temporary chairman dougherty evans price and farley of 1906 and mackall carlock conrad and waddill of the class of 1907 it shall be the duty of this committee to see that candidates report regularly for practice and that available foot ball men in college come out for the team w s watson and f g wright son jr were appointed as cheer leaders the lehigh laundry system was set before the college by manager dean and support solicited after a few short talks on other matters the meeting adjourned there will be a meeting of the arcadia at karl's on tuesday even ing the lehigh university orches tra will hold its first rehearsal on wednesday evening at 7.30 o'clock in the y m c a roomis pennsylvania game continued on page three lehigh defeats albright in slow game score 29 — o lehigh opened her foot ball sea son on saturday afternoon by de feating albright by the score of 29 to o albright proved to be a very weak opponent and quite a number of men were tried out or the score might have been even larger than it is in the first half albright chose to defend the west goal gott kicked off to isenberger who ad vanced the ball five yards before he was tackled by gott albright could not gain and was forced to punt lehigh made steady gains for two downs on the third down pyne took the ball for a quarter back run he evaded albright's ends and after a pretty fifteen-yard run scored the first touchdown of the season gott kicked the goal albright kicked off to fulton who advanced the ball fifteen yards torrey followed with a twenty yard dash fulton added five yards pyne on a quarter-back run added ten more and place went over the line for the second touch down after a twenty-yard run gott kicked the goal albright kicked off to fulton who failed to advance in the three following downs lehigh advanced the ball sixty yards fulton was sent over for the touchdown gott kicked the goal herman kicked off to albright who failed to make any gain ful ton got the ball on a punt but failed to gain after a series of three to ten yard gains gott went over for the fourth touchdown but failed on the goal the first half ended with the ball in albright's territory and albright giving signals score 23 to o in the second half lehigh lost many chances of scoring by her many fumbles due possibly to fre quent changes in her line-up albright kicked off to drum baugh who advanced the ball ten yards lehigh fumbled and al bright got the ball on the first play albright fumbled and her man got the ball the ball was in the possession of one team and then the other clue to fumbles and albright's inability to gain in the middle of the field in the latter part of the half le high steadied up and after a series of steady gains drumbaugh scored the last touchdown of the game i a special train will leave south , bethlehem for the pennsylvania ' game on saturday at about 1 p m , the special train is a certainty and the time of departure though not i definitely arranged will most prob • ably be 1 p m arriving in phila delphia at 2.15 p m giving ample time to be at franklin field at 3.30 p m every man in college who can j possibly accompany the team should do so this will be perm's open ing game and lehigh may be ex pected to put up a hard fight as she !
