              e m society first technical society meeting the first meeting of the mining and geological society for the en sudg year was held wednesday night in the society room in wil liams hall after an opening ad dress by president grady the so phomore miners and electrometal lurgists were received to member ship the first wednesday in each month was decided upon for the regular monthly meeting a committee consisting of grady pyne vockrodt and car lock was appointed to look into the matter of arranging joint meetings with the geological society of la fayette a program committee consisting of evans moore and carlock was also appointed lover 06 and morsack 08 were ap pointed to assist the treasurer in collecting dues president drinker prof bayley and messrs landis and burkhardt were elected to honorary member ship prof eckfeldt gave a short ad dress upon the benefits of the so ciety prof bayley then spoke briefly upon the proposed lehigh lafayette geological society com bination after the regular business of the evening the society adjourned to partake of light refreshments served by the chef jim myers home club meetitng the young men's christian as sociation has at last secured a gen eral secretary mr raymond s rogers who was graduated from syracuse university in june 1905 has been secured to take up the work largely through the efforts of frank c gilbert and h e ed monds both former secretaries now in the y m c a work in new york mr rogers entered the univer sity of pennsylvania in the fall of 1 901 at'u of p he spent two years where he roaved on the freshman crew during his so phomore year he had charge of all the bible study work in his class after spending two years at perm mr rogers entered syra cuse university and he completed the degree ph b at syracuse he was engaged in mission work and spent some time in athletics being a member of last year's foot ball squad he is a member of delta upsilon fraternity before entering college mr rogers was in v.m.c.a work in philadelphia where he served as an assistant secretary and physical di rector bible study classes meet on sun day morning at 9.30 in christmas hall the speaker for the sunday evening service will be state sec retary miller mr rogers will be glad to meet any of the students at his office in christmas hall 1907 class meeting a meeting of the lehigh home club was held on tuesday even ing at which report's from the va rious committees on the founder's day reception and banquet were heard and plans and arrangements discussed the junior class held a short meeting on the campus in front of saucon hall wednesday noon g k herzog was elected to the epitome board in place of wil liam hunter who has left college the office of the registrar for merly in the president's office on the second floor of packer hall has been removed to the first floor of the same building and is now in the room formerly occupied by prof goodwin of the department of the greek language and liter ature prof goodwin now occu pies the room formerly occupied by prof ringer foot ball scores lehigh 23 ; medico chi o cornell 28 hobart o yale 27 ; wesleyan o pennsylvania 16 gettysburg 6 harvard 16 bowdoin o pittsburg lehigh club the first regular meeting of the pittsburg lehigh club was held at the union club of pittsburg on saturday evening september 30th and in the absence of mr bray the president and messrs bllickle and evans vice-presidents mr thurs ton presided there were thirty one members present the main business before the meeting was the enlisting of sufficient enthusiasm among the members to assume a large turnout at the inaugural ex ercises of mr drinker arrangements have been made for a special car which will leave pittsburg wednesday evening at 10 o'clock arriving at bethlehem about 8.25 the next morning it was moved seconded and carried that a committee be appointed the number to be left to the discretion of the chair to thoroughly canvass the members of the pittsburg le high club and induce as many as possible to come eighteen have already stated that they are going and as we will only need twenty five to obtain the car we have no doubt but that the matter will be put through satisfactorily reference was made to the 600 which the club pledged themselves to raise for the support of athletics this year at lehigh and it was moved seconded and carried that a committee of five be appointed for the purpose of soliciting these sub scriptions it was decided tftjat the club hold regular monthly meetings on the third saturday of each month at the union club and the next meeting will therefore be held on the third saturday of november after all the business was over the evening passed rapidly away amid lehigh songs and cheers andy farabaugh has been as sisting dr newton in coaching the team for several days spanish class mr fox one of the new instruc tors in the department of modern languages has organized a class in spanish a number of men who contemplate working in countries where the castillian tongue is spoken are taking the course mr joseph murgas of wilkes barre the inventor of a system of wireless telegraphy visited the uni versity during the early part of the week the wedding of e s adams ex-'o6 to miss nellie g dietrich will take place in williamsport on october 16th lehigh defeated medico chi lehigh 23 medico chi o lehigh won the third game of the season by defeating medico chi of philadelphia by the score of 23-0 medico chi elected to defend the west goal lehigh kicked off medico chi advancing the ball fifteen yards be fore being downed lehigh s line held and got the ball on downs after a gain of five yards by brum baugh lehigh lost the ball on a fumble the next play lehigh was penalized five yards for offside medico chi gained steadily on line bucks alternated by end runs by spatter and reddy bringing the ball to their forty-yard line le high was again penalized five yards for offside but gained possession of the ball on downs on the next play however the ball was lost on a fumble pyne was substituted for laubenstein medico chi lost the ball on an attempted quarter-back kick pyne advanced the ball fif teen yards on an end run lehigh lost the ball on downs after gains on the end by johnston and through the line by bachman the visitors again tried a quarter-back kick and gott caught the ball nine yards by pyne and short gains by brum baugh and place brought the ball to their thirty-five yard-line pyne circled the end for the first touch down and gott kicked the goal lehigh again kicked off pyne was hurt in the first scrimmage but resumed playing medico chi was forced to kick gott ran the ball back twelve yards before being downed fulton was substituted for brumbaugh place gained five yards and fulton three after which pyne made the second touchdown by running twenty yards on a quarter-back trick gott kicked the goal medico chi kicked off and gott ran the ball back fifteen yards bachman twice smashed through the line for good gains in the next play the ball went to medico chi on a fumble of a double pass from smartt to fulton lehigh held for downs and their opponents kicked to gott who ran the ball back five yards pyne made the sensational play of the game by running 100 yards for a touchdown gott missed the goal medico chi again kicked off but time was called before the teams continued on fourth page the brown and white lehigh university south bethlehem pa s friday october 6 1905 y m c a vol xiii foot ball general secretary secured calendar friday oct 6th at 5 p m cheering practice saturday oct 7th foot ball gam--e — lehigh vs new york uni versity at new york sunday oct bth at 9.30 a m bible study gases at 6.30 p rri y m c a meeting tuesday oct 10th at 5 p m cheering practice no 5
