prof smyth guest of arts an dscience club professor albert it smyth,heaid of the department of english of the philadelphia central high school who is to give a college lecture on friday morning will be the guest of the arts and science club on thursday evening a specal invitation is extended to the members of the various technical socieies to join the school of general literature men in hearing the talk prof smyth has kindly promised o give the meeting will be held in williams hall at 8 p m refreshments will be served john a ruddy 05 was in town saturday and sunday no 41 the brown and white lehigh university register south bethlehem pa tuesday march 13 1906 lacrosse basket ball vol xiii alumni notes nounced several important changes an the university register for 1 905 1 906 was issued from the press on saturday of last week several important changes are an nounced for the college year 1906 1907 chief among which is the raising of the entrance requirement in algebra in the mechanical course algebra will not receive any attention in college the math of the freshman year will consist in analytical geometry and calculus mechanics being studied in the so ! phomore year the classical course shows a change in " the freshman year by which algebra will not be taught but mechanics will take its place in the second year those who take algebra will get it during the first term of the freshman year which was the cus tom until two pears ago when a change was tried by placing alge bra in the second term the courses in the various de partments remain practically the same as in former years but ply giene has been dropped from the curriculum and public speaking from second term freshman the total enrollment for i905~'06 is placed at 685 409 of these are from pennsylvania according to departments there are 34 classical 10 latin scientific 206 civil-engi neering 165 mechanical engineer ing 112 mining engineering 5 metallurgical engineering 100 electrical engineering 1 , 33 analyti cal chemistry 16 chemical engi neering the number of graduates is 1 49 1 degrees having been con ferred as follows upon graduates of the school of general litera ture b a 79 b s 27 ph b 7 m a 15 upon graduates of school of technology ;
