when the " cafe noir had been served president barth called for the following toasts : " 1907 forever w a draper " the faculty e r treverton " on lehigh field w c dun can " die maedchen j b carlock " a tale or two j a brod head in addition to these stirring ef forts by the toast men pyne and herman of the senior class had some splendid advice for the men of 1907 when all had been said and steins collected it was the consen sus of opinion that the banquet was a big success in every way the committee in charge con sisted of these men : chairman walton s w brown gilmore hesse mayer mclntosh and sew ard base ball and lacrosse programs the nominating committee to nominate men for the ensuing year was appointed as follows cupitt 06 cort 06 and mac minn 07 the election will take place monday evening april 9 several mission study classes were organized after the meeting the studies will be on the phillip pines about twenty-five men have arranged to take up the work lehigh loses to rutgers the lehigh gymnastic team again met defeat on saturday even ing at new brunswick the rut gers team was weaker than that of lehip-h but the latter was at a de cided disadvantage because of un familiarity with the apparatus and was unable to work up to the usual standard several events were very close club swinging and tumbling especially in each of which the two leading contestants were called upon for a final trial before the judge could give his decision the events were given in the following order : flying rings capt devan r first scott l second green r parallel bars capt brown l first heath r second scott l gies r club swinging frankenfield l first morrison r second donaldson l thomp son r horizontal bars devan r first gies r second brown l side horse heath r first mcdevitt second stouffer l devan 09 r tumbling brown l first cranmer r second mr robert stoll of new york was the judge and m r w allen of rutgers announcer as in the other meets held this year first place counted five points for the winner and second place three so that the final score was 27—21 this closes the season except for the " l " contest held among the members of the team the winner of which will be awarded the gymnasium l after the meet the inter-class relay championship of rutgers was decided the 06 team had pre viously defeated 07 and 08 had defeated 09 the championship was won by 06 defeating 08 by about 50 yards the time being 2:12 senator w h feiker of massa chusetts is endeavoring to pass a bill through the legislature of that state whereby college property will b taxed owe would naturally think massachusetts would be the last state in the union to tax educa tional facilities review of the season i the basket ball game scheduled for saturday evening was canceled at a late hour and consequently about fifty or more persons mostly townspeople were disappointed after climbing the hill to the gym nasium c c n y gave as their reason for canceling the statement that several of their players had been injured the season thus brought to an untimely end with the game at bucknell presents several very prominent features worthy of men tion of the twelve games played the six contested on the home floor resulted in victories for lehigh the team worked hard all season and the support of the college was exceptionally good no scenes were enacted on the local floor calling for criticism either from the bleachers or the press the con tests have all been clean and satis factory the size of our floor has been a great handicap against our team when away from home this was the second season in which le high's basket ball team has not won a game away from home and the first in which it has not lost a game on the home floor with the exception of maurer the team will remain intact for next year captain travis and his men are to be highly commended for their good work during the season lehigh was defeated by pennsylvania prince ton manhattan swarthmore new york university and bucknell and defeated albright carlisle indians penna state susquehanna stev ens and swarthmore anderson leads the scoring with 123 points travis 90 pierce 66 troutman 42 ; maurer 30 krae mer 24 mcmullen 20 davies 18 and porter 10 anderson forward played in 22 halves and two parts of halves and did the best work during the entire season captain travis guard was kept out of the early games when the highest scoring was done 20 halves ; pierce center played a strong game at center until the opening of the second term 10 halves and 2 parts of halves trout man forward our steadiest player and best passer 22 halves mau rer sub-forward 6 halves and 3 r w thoroughgood 02 was in bethlehem on friday w l jacoby 92 has been vis iting his parents in south bethle hem during the past week mr jacoby occupies an important posi tion as superintendent of the la trobe steel and coupler company's plant at melrose park 111 the attention of the students of the university is called to the notice posted on the bulletin board in packer hall concerning bids for the 1906 base ball and lacrosse programs the competition is open to all students of the university and bids should be in before march 31st the awarding of the privilege is to be announced on april 2nd 1906 all bids should be directed to c l thornburg financial secretary l u athletic associa tion and should be based on a certain percentage of the receipts from sales advertising etc 1 continued on fourth page the brown and white no 45 lehigh university south bethlehem pa tuesday march 27 1906 basket ball the 1907 banquet calendar gymnastic meet vol xiii tuesday march 27 at 8 p m arcadia meets wednesday march 28 at 2 p m lacrosse base ball and track work mustard and cheese re hearsal at 7.30 p m l con test at gymnasium thursday march 29 at 4 p m lacrosse practice friday march 30 at 1 1.30 a m college meeting in physical la boratory tuesday april 3 rogers-grilley recitals in y m c a lecture and entertainment course saturday march 31 at 2 p m athletic teams practice lost a gold watch elgin movement was lost on wednesday march 21 06 the finder will please return the same to the supply bureau and get reward y m c a notes the meeting on sunday evening was addressed by the rev james robinson of bethlehem his ad dress was greatly appreciated by those who attended the meeting next sunday the meeting will be held at 6.30 p m and professor owen of lafayette college will be the speaker prof owen is one of the most highly respected pro fessors at lafayette he has ad dressed meetings at lehigh several times and it is hoped that a large number of men will come out to hear him held at hellertown on saturday evening for a third time in its history the junior class met around the banquet board and toasted almost every person and thing connected with the univer sity the great portion of the class gathered at second and new streets where they waited for a car with the hellertown signboard the voyage to these unknown regions was soon over and only served to heighten spirits for the menu at the park hotel an hour after leaving second and new streets the banqueters com menced their first course despite the fact of the teutonic atmosphere which pervaded the place the " menu card had only french terms for its readers
