seven moves the opening was a ruy lopez and the game resulting from it was very cleverly won for lehigh by black who took the at tack early in the game the sec ond game between stahr and goer lick was next finished stahr white selected a queen's gam bit opening and early in the game secured an advantage by winning a pawn and shortly after a second this advantage he held until the end of the game when goerlich was obliged to resign at the end of the 49th move the second buch duncan game was begun with a french defence opening in which duncan secured the advantage after about thirty moves but buch by clever playing although behind in pieces succeeded in securing a draw by means of perpetual check barnes 06 of lehigh and bevier 06 of rutgers finished their first game about this time both men played very slowly and carefully continued on fourth page lehigh university south bethlehem pa tuesday march 22 1905 l contest sophomore banquet vol xii the brown and white calendar no 43 tuesday march 21 at 8 p m meeting of civil engineering so ciety wednesday march 22 n at 2.30 p m lacrosse practice in the gym at 3 p m chorus rehearsal for the mustard and cheese perform ance at 8 p m meeting of the forum society at 9p m fresh man banquet at the wyandotte thursday march 23 at 8 p m meeting of mechanical engineer ing society friday march 24 at 5 p m lacrosse practice in the gym saturday march 25 at 2 p m chorus rehearsal for mustard and cheese performance the mustard and cheese held in connection with ex hibition with rutgers rutgers and lehigl met in a gymnastic exhibition at lehigh on saturday evening the affair was to have been a contest with dr w g anderson of yale as judge a few days before the contest it was learned that dr anderson could not be present and in the endeavor to secure others in , his place rut gers found t impossible to agree to a selection from 1 unprejudiced men that were suggested hence the lehigh management much to its disappointment was obliged to agree to an exhibition a very in teresting contest was expected be cause of the conditions of each team and the fact that both had won from haverford and pennsyl vania earlier in the season to make the exhibition oi more inter est the lehigh men contested for the l which event was to have been decided later in form the lehigh team greatly excelled that of rutgers this may have been due partly to the compe tition of the lehigh men the re sult of this competition was as fol lows : i horizontal bar — brown first fernandez second clubs — stouffer first ; donald son second parallel bars — fernandez first ; brown second flying rings — moore first ; scott second horse — fernandez first stouf fer second tumbling — evans first moore second the l was won by fernandez with 13 points and brown second with 9 points several entries have been made by the lehigh team in the inter collegiate gymnastic contest to be held at princeton on march 31st notice to seniors held at wyendotte friday night the class of 1907 held its annual banquet on the night of saint pat rick's day the banquet was again held in the wyandotte hotel in spite of the evil impressions that were created at last year's spiel a new record for a sophomor ban quet was established as a more quiet and respectable dinner has never been given for many years at 9 o'clock fully eighty members of the class filed into the handsome ly decorated dining room and after singing the alma mater and giving three 1907 yells began to give close attention to the following 1 menu : menu : oysters on the half shell horse radish cream of tomatoes croutons manzanilla olives radishes pim-olas iced celery kennebec salmon steak maitre d'hotel vermont turkey with cranberry jelly . french peas browned sweet potatoes sugar corn punch benedictine young spring lamb mint sauce asparagus salad french dressing cheese crackers ice cream fancy cakes assorted fruit mixed nuts cafe noir cigars cigarettes president hunter acted as toast master and called upon the follow ing for toasts : toasts guy brown class ; blazer foot ball duncan society stanford i do ; bunting i don't daniels y m c a conrad boozology ; travis basket ball the banquet committee consist ing of dunn brown s w mo-rss robinson treverton grace and waddill is certainly to be con gratulated upon the excellent ar rangements and prompt service in the march number of mc clure's magazine the third part of a serial the golden flood ap pears the novel is by edwin le fevre ex-'93 , j the engagement of r l her rick 04 to miss clarke of west field mass has recently been an nouneed
