reunion class of 1900 the committee in charge of the five-year reunion of the class of 1900 is working hard to make it a s access the principal features arc to be a banquet and a five-year book consisting of letters from the grad uates and former members of the class so far the responses have ibeen very encouraging but there are a few more men to hear from before the volume will be complete lhe committee wishes to say that any one who has not sent in a letter should do so at once to the secre tary at bethlehem the committee consists of morrow chamberlain chairman john fuller allan c doclson and j e leibfried secre tary lecture by prof kemp ursinus defeats lehigh score 77 2 the base hall team of ursinus college defeated lehigh on lehigh field wednesday afternoon by the score of 7 to 2 the game was closer than the score would seem to indicate ursinus making six of their runs in two innings and play ing on equal terms with lehigh for the rest pent was in the box for our team and until the fifth inning held his own with townsend ur sinus veteran pitcher in this and the seventh inning he was touched up pretty heavily and some slow fielding at critical points assisted in cinching the game for ursinus le high's only score came in the fourth inning when snyder opened up with a nice hit over third base and person following rememibered his old-time trick and put the ball over the fence townsend quickly pulled himself together and retired the next three mien before they reached first in the ninth the crowd which had throughout given the team miserable support stood up and indulged in a few desultory remarks of encouragement which failed to help the team to score lehigh put up a creditable game and lost to a superior team but with decent support from the bleachers would undoubtedly have made a far better showing game by innings lehigh started out in great shape price going out on a hard drive to steiner town send on a 1 ttle fly to left field and the next man being struck out by pentz in lehigh's half blazer reached fir.it on the ursinus short stop's error but was caught trying to steal second root was out on a short drive to third and snyder on a fly to left field in the second inning paistc pasted the ball for two bases reached third en a passed ball but was cut off at the home plate b the neat work of snyder cullen caught a long drive to centre and lehigh came up to bat person sent an easy one to second but steiner made good by a nice hit pie was caught stealing and lehigh was blanked when culleu struck out in the third person put out two men all by himself catching their high fouls price struck out for lehigh long sent a futile fly to right field burchstec struck out but pentz reached first on farin-j continued on third page of pittsburg alumni club the annual dinner of the lehigh club of pittsburg took place at the union club pitts-burg pa on april 29 there were over one hundred and twenty-five seated at the tables and among these men distinguished in almost every walk of life the banquet was a great success in every particular dr ringer who has now been professor of modern languages and literature for thirty-four years was the first speaker of the evening he chose for his topic european poli tics with especial reference to the russo-japanese war dr ringer after making a pleasing allusion to the fact that every lehigh man in his presence had at some time come under his instruction took up a de tailed discussion of his subject he spoke of the fact that he holds a pe culiar relation to european politics being a political exile,and expressed the view comlmon among students of history that in the long run a vic tcry for japan over russia will be detrimental to western civilzation and industry dr john a brashear spoke on the topic a contribution from lehigh to the solution of problems in astronomy he paid glowing tribute to lhe achievements of prof doolitttle who while at lehigh made many important contributions 10 that science with relation to the earth's orbicular motions and its polar variations chancellor s b mccormick spoke on culture for the man of affairs and was followed by judge buffington on the subjec 1 the college clan prof doolittle at a very late hour was called to speak on edu cation technical and otherwise h kirk porter followed him in a discourse on the united states in world politics and the contact of igneous and sedi mentary rocks base ball the first game oi the series with lafayette will be played saturday afternoon at easton the team has been working hard for this game and needs the support of a good numiber of followers special train leaves union station at 1.30 p m returning immediately after the game tennis club at a meeting of the tennis club wednesday afternoon it was de cided to abolish the requirement of an entrance fee leaving the annual dues one dollar per year a propo sition for a dual tennis tournament with princeton was discussed but nothing definite was decided upon arrangements were also discussed for a college tournament to be held about the first of june all men desiring to join the asso ciation are requested to see anton sonti 07 at once and pay 9.15 a m bible study classes meet at 6.30 p nx y m c a meeting in christmas hall track meet the first track meet of the season will be contested with new york university at new york the mer it of the home team may not be cafely pointed out at present there being a great number of first-yea men on the team 1 ,, but the outlook for a winning team is very favor able the regular monthly meeting of the athletic committee was held wednesday evening in the com mittee room in christmas hall the alumni lacrosse game on monday june 12 was approved various methods for rewarding the scrubs on the several teams were discussed and it was decided to award numerals not exceeding ten 11.1 number to faithful members of tie base ball scrub and numerals not exceeding twelve to faithful members of the lacrosse scrub these men are to be chosen by the captains and coaches it was also decided to award in cignia to those members of the bas ket ball team who play in at least six full halves this insignia is to consist of an l with two small b"s the l is to be the same size as the lacrosse and track ls and may be either white on brown cr brown white the selection of dr newton as coach of the t905 foot ball
