fully recovered from the effects of the northern trip and was unable to put up a snappy game gray princeton's freshman pitcher was rather effec tive and although seven hits were made off of him they were well scattered lehigh's three runs were due mainly to errors in the second inning cullen drove out a three-bagger and scored when cooney threw wild to third in the third root singled and made second on mclean's fumble of snyder's giounder bard's error allowed both root and snyder to score princeton scored two runs in the second and two in the fourth through lehigh's errors in the fifth ciety these were followed by the talks prepared for the evening prof eckfeldt who hael intended to speak upon diamonds was un able to attend on account of illness langdon gave an interesting talk 651 mining through quicksand in which he explained some of the difficulties encountered and meth ods of surmounting them evans read a paper upon the philippine mining law with ref erence to what constitute the differ ent classes of mineral land the methods of locating claims the amount of yearly improvement on property required applications for claimc 1 aim patents and mill sites ere after a brief discussion of the society's plans for the ensuing year the meeting adjourned e m society review of season the lacrosse season for 1905 just closed while not exactly one tri umphant march was nevertheless creditable of the seven games played lehigh won three scoring 33 points to her opponents 25 the first game of ihe year was with the ttam of the college of the city of new york and the visitors were defeated easily by the score of 9 to o in the second contest lehigh kept up the good work and won from cornell by six goals to two ihe bright hopes that at last we had gotten a championship team were rudely shaken when on the af ternoon of april 15 a raw jold wind and an unkind fate conspired to assist pennsylvania in beating us t two goal to one the fourth game,the contest with columbia saw a decided improve ment as lehigh won by a score of q to 3 and in addition tried out a number of new men lehigh s championship aspira tions received their , first decisive check when johns hopkins was met at baltimore on april 29 our men played good lacrosse fully on a par with that of their opponents but the record of the score is 4 to 3 and the a is not credited to lehigh a week and a half later may 10 the intercollegiate chjampion swarthmore demonstrated her su periority by defeating lehigh by seven goals to four this game was a splendid exhibition of good lacrosse on the part of both teams in the first half which ended in a tie 2-2 lehigh was undoubtedly superior to her quaker opponent but the second half saw swarth more's heavier men better able to stand the fast rough pace iriurr pliant in the last game of the season that of last saturday with stevens the conditions of weight were re versed but despite this advantage lehigh was outplayed by the lighter stevens men who it might be added had the benefit of acquaint ance with thei soft and sandy cricket grounds of the regular lehigh team five playersp 1 ayers will be lost by graduation : harrower de
