this committee is to get all foot-ball men out on the field regularly for practice and to encourage them to stay when once there the members five from the senior class and three from each of the others is as follows walcott 03 chairman glancy 03 lattig 03 myers 03 herrick 03 mack 04 mussina 04 sinn 04 berg 05 estes 05 saffold 05 mcclure 06 wrigntson 06 hutchinson 06 g l robinson 98 spent sun day in town foot ball lehigh 41 union o lehigh took the long trip up to schenectady on saturday to play the team of famous old union college and succeeded in scoring forty-one points in two thirty-minute halves in the neighborhood of a hun dred lehigh alumni who are em ployed at the general electric works at schenectady were on hand to watch the brown and white play and succeeded in filling the hearts of the union supporters with such wholesome awe that the best terms which could be got in a betting way were 1 to 10 that lehigh would not score forty or over practically the best team lehigh could produce was put in at the beginning of the first half and although the men played loosely they succeeded nevertheless in find ing frequent holes in the union line the new york boys played a hard game throughout gamely contesting every inch of the way but were outclassed by lehigh in every department for lehigh a farabaugh brush and torrey did well while olmsted excelled for the home team union won the toss and kicked off lehigh got the ball well toward the center of the field after a few plunges a fumble occurred and it was union's ball here lehigh held for downs and obtaining the ball began to push it steadily down the field soon fuller took the ball on a center plunge but fumbled and andy fara baugh regaining it circled the end for the first touchdown of the game farabaugh kicked an easy goal the next touchdown was also made on a fumble though in all probability it would soon have been made on straight foot ball the ball came into lehigh's hands and started again on its journey toward the union goal when within a very few feet of the coveted chalk line the ball was again fumb'ed and waters seizing it rolled over the line another goal was kicked lehigh secured her third touch down on a thirty-yard run by torrey from this point the union defense seemed to grow weaker and the lehigh players although they continued on fourth page notices the petition presented to the fac ulty by the freshman class and in dorse by the three upper classes to reinstate messrs butler and zahn iser has beer granted last week there was published in thp browis and white a song wheih had been received too late for publication in the song book we are aware that there have been some good ones written which have not been handed in we would like to request those who have such songs to send them to the brown and white and they will be published so as to be used in the lafayette game at present lafayette seems to be a bit ahead of us in singing and we cannot let this be the case when we go down to beat them at foot ball on november 22nd y m c a meeting the meeting of the association in the rooms at 6.15 sunday evening was one of special interest to college men the meeting was led by mr carrier but was in the nature of an informal discussion on the tempta tions of college life after the open ing remarks by the leader a vocal selection was rendered by mr caum this was followed by an in formal discussion of the topic by several members of the association at the close of the meeting several new men were voted into the as sociation communication lid it or brown and white dear sir : — the duty of the foot ball hustling committee recently appointed is to see that the mem bers of the squad reoort for duty regularly and keep strict training the appointment of certain men to take the responsibility of this work is a great step ia advance over the days of sb.ck tnimng when every body's business was nobody's busi ness but the committee can not be thoroughly efficient without the co operation of the whole student body the reason why there is more col lege spirit in some places than others is that in those where there is most every man makes the suc cess of all organizations his own peronal affair our team seems to be keeping very good training this year but let every one see to it that there is no opportunity for a foot ball team plays virginia on saturday lehigh plays a game of especial interest this year when she meets the university of virginia in washing ton on november 8 this will be the first time in several years cen tainly that the two colleges have met on the gridiron and a good game is sure to result a large crowd is sure to be in attendance as the following of both virginia and lehigh in washington is large the trip to washington with the team is one which would repay many undergraduates to take af ording means to see a good game take in the sights of the capital and show the southern lehigh club the interest being taken in the team by the undergraduates this year more over the encouragement given the team would help defeat the college which is perhaps the representative of the south ; whose defeat by le high would considerably increase the reputation of the latter in the southern states the team leaves for washington friday afternoon november 7 and returns sunday he 9th
