the physical properties of steel foot ball captain elected at a meeting last night in the gymnasium c f the men who had played in the harvard and prince ton gam s this year charles don nelly rafferty 1904 s of pitts burg pa was unanimously elected captain of the foot ball team for the ensuing year glass name was riot considered in the election because of the fol lowing rule adopted by a univer sity mass meeting held on february 1 8 1 90 1 : no student shall take part in any contest of a university athletic association in any one branch of athletics for more than four years the year or years during which any man shall have represented upon any of its teams any other college shall be reckoned as if he has been a member of a university athletic association of yale for this period interscholastic meet it is probable that an interschol astic meet will be held on lehigh field on may t 16 similar to the one held last year it is open to all preparatory schools and was suc cessful last year the athletic com mittee will decide in regard to the meet at the next meeting which will be held on thursday evening mustard and cheese a successful performance is promised rehearsals for the spring per formance of the mustard and cheese dramatic association have been held regularly every wednes day and saturday afternoon during this term and by this time the pro duction bids fair to be an excep tionally good one as stated in these columns before the club is undertaking a new proposition in that a straight dramatic piece will be attempted one thing which speaks well for the quality of the performance is the exceptional talent exhibited by the new men compelling several of last year's cast to occupy seats in the audience the men are all tak ing an unusual interest in the play and under the guidance of mr b luther anthony who has made a success of mustard and cheese per formances in the past it is rapidly assuming definite proportions the probable cast will be as fol lows : colonel preston an old planter hutchinson colonel moberly a relic of the confederacy graham \ squire tucker a county justice johnson captain davenport a northern railroad man meyer mr armstrong his agent taussig lathrop page a southern boy benkhart raymond page a party of busi ness zahniser decatur an ante-bellum servant shive mrs page a widow who thinks twice , angle mrs stockton another widow de schweinitz carey preston a southern blossom pollitt atlanta moberly colonel moberly's daughter langstroth the play will be given at the opera house in south bethlehem on the night of saturday april j the twenty-fifth on thursday april the twenty-third a prelimi j nary production will be given in reading , i in basket ball the following is the standing of the teams includ ing saturday's games won lost p.c last game ot hz season wi'h lafayette next wednesday evening the basket ball team will play its last h:>me game for this season in the gym the game is to be with la fayette those two facts should be r.ufficient to bring every student in college up to the gym that even ing and fill the building to the doors a trip to washington subject to the approval of the athletic com niitee has been planned for the team for the latter part of next week ; it includes two games at washington and one at baltimore all of them with crack teams this past season has been very successful in more ways than one the team has made an enviable reputation for itself and stands well up towards the top among the col lege teams of the country it was rather unfortunate that the games with columbia dickinson and gettysburg which were to have been played here were cancelled if they had not been no doubt le high's basket ball team would have become better known than ever the varsity has been practicing faithfully for the last week or two in preparing for wednesday's game there has been a good scrub out at nearly every practice and the first team has had all the oppor tunity it needed to develop itself in passing and goal throwing the team is in pretty good shape for the coming game although two of the members of it lattig and powell have been on the injured list this last week yet they will be able to play all right so that the team will not be handicapped at trie last moment by losing them so it is up to every college fellow to do his part by coming out and helping to cheer the team on to another victory from lafay ette and in truth end the season here in a blaze of glo>ry in ad dition to all this there is to be a good social time afterwards as the management has arranged for a dance after the game the captain for next year's team will be chosen in about two weeks whist games are scheduled be tween yale and columbia brown and harvard the dramatic association
