8.30 p m junior class banquet at the brighton y m c a business meet ing the y m c a held a busi ness meeting last saturday evening principally for the purpose of elect ing officers but a good deal of other business was transacted the re ports of the various committees showed a steady advance in the work of the association the in terest in the devotional meetings and bible study classes has in creased very much this year the missionary committee gave an es pecially encouraging report an nouncing that the members of the ssocia,tion had this year pledged over 100 for the cause of missions ver one-half of which has already been paid the association has at present 166 members of whom 132 are active and 34 associate mem bers a few minor business mat ters were attended to and then the election of officers took place the new officers who begin their work at easter are the following president h e edmonds 04 vice president c l orth 04 recording secretary h s seipt 05 treasurer c d flayes 05 base ball practice the base ball squad had a fast practice on saturday afternoon when over forty candidates turned out two teams were chosen and played a seven inning game credit ably considering the amount of practice they have had the score was : varsity 1 13 1 4 o lo 7 2 scrub 1 200 o 0 — 34 6 batteries farabaugh and sny der badgley fennel and still review of the season continued on second page a review of the past basket ball season shows that lehigh has a 1 team which on its own floor is the equal or superior of any college team in the second game of the season they defeated the pennsylvania team which had a very successful season although its schedule contained games with the large universities princeton was defeated by pennsyl vania at princeton from the beginning of the season the team was heavily handicapped until a certain number of athletic tickets had been sold it was not cer tain that we would have a team when the athletic committee gave the necessary support most of the colleges had their schedules ar ranged and under the circum stances manager clancy was very successful in securing games the games with columbia dickinson and gettysburg were to have been played at south bethlehem and if they had not been cancelled would undoubtedly have been victories three games were to have been played on the washington trip which was cancelled by the faculty a smaller number of games was therefore played than last year but the team was at least 50 per cent better during the past season six games were played of which four were victories one was a de feat and one was a tie the game with jefferson was forfeited on ac count of unfair decisions lehigh has been represented by a basket ball team for two seasons both of which have been very suc cessful a large part of the credit is clue to pfahler 04 who organ ized the team two years ago and has been its captain for two seasons his accurate goal shooting has done much to win the many victor ies of the team no basket ball coach was secured for the season which just closed so that pfahler performed the duties of both cap tain and coach a farabaugh and klar retained their positions as guards and played a fast game throughout the season lattig and powell the new men were both experienced players and greatly strengthened the team for next season the prospects are very good although pfahler and lattig will not be in the game lat tig will finish his special course this year and pfahler will not be able to play on account of his studies a meeting of unusual interest the meeting of the y m c a last sunday evening was one of the most interesting that has been held for some time the report of the state convention which was held at lebanon march sth to bth was given by the delegates sent from the association here edmonds kautz willis sisson and west lake each of them talked for a few minutes telling of some part of the work of the convention or relating some interesting or touch ing incident of it and all of them expressed the sentiment that it was impossible to tell all about it in one short hour and that to get the greatest benefit from it a fellow should attend a convention like that himself edmonds had charge of the meeting and he spoke especially in regard to the opening sessions of the convention he said that there were about 600 delegates there of whom 150 were students he also told about the banquet given to the delegates the evening of the first day what a fine supper it was of the college yells given there by the various groups of students lehigh's of course being among them and he also spoke of the inspiring sound that went up when all the delegates sang the doxol ogy edmonds finished his report by telling of the very helpful bible study talks given by mr mc conkey on the fuller life and of the great pesonal good he had obtained from them the story of the convention was then taken up by kautz who told something of the meeting on fri day he spoke of some of the re ports that had been given which showed the encouraging advance ment of the association work in three of its new departments the work in the anthracite region in the bituminous region and in the county work the very interesting addresses by dr mcdowell and rev schauffler of new york were briefly touched upon he also mentioned some of the prominent features of the sectional conference which had been devoted to student work dwelling particularly on the discussion in regard to the bible study work of an association and also that in regard to the mission ary responsibility of the y m c a willis then gave a short synopsis continued on third page sophomore summary most of the scrub basket ball team was composed of sophomores who organized a class team with berg as captain and
