the cinder path has been the scene of a great deal of activity since the mild spring weather set in and the men of the college are tak ing a great deal of interest in this branch of athletics over a score of candidates for running honors are out every day under dr pollard's direction and everything indicates the great in terest taken in the work and the splendid material at hand in our meet with new york uni versity we hope to retrieve our hon orable defeat at perm's relay races and the trials which were held wed nesday afternoon were very encour aging to this hope in the hundred yards dash pyne covered the dis tance in 10 1-5 seconds and saffold made a close second with frick well again this end of the line should be well sustained in the mile pierce hayes and klar are making splendid time and encouraging records were made at the hammer throw the following is the official list of the men who will compete for the brown and white at new york mile run — klarr hayes pierce 880 yards run — hayes klar 440 yards dash — brownell wil liams 220 yards dash — pyne frick hudson 100 yards dash — frick pyne high hurdles — dow low hurdles — saffold becker running broad jump — pentz hudson pole vault pentz morgan hamer throw — johnson pyne shot put — pyne pentz calculus cremation at a meeting of the sophomore class the following committee was elected for calculus cremation : chairman hutchinson ; baily burrows campbell dow ; hodges mack mussina sinn snyder the elections for class officers for the junior year and also the epitome board will be held wednesday may 14 in a listless and one-sided game the lehigh lacrosse team defeated columbia on wednesday by the score of 6to 1 the work of both teams left much to be desired and although lehigh easily sur passed their opponents their team work and individual playing was below the standard of their previous games if lehigh had played as good a game as they put up against johns hopkins the score woud have been much more one-sided than it was the first half was marked at times by skillful work but the sec ond half was entirely devoid of brilliant plays the game how ever was fairly clean and was marred by very little roughness the attendance was unusually small during the first half lehigh practically had things her own way about two minutes after the game had started tunstall shot a goal for lehigh lattig immediately after made another for some time neither scored until by hard playing columbia made her only point in the remainder of the half olpp made two goals and lattig one making the score at the end of the half le bigh 5 ; columbia 1 . the second half was much slower than the first and only one goal was thrown during the entire half the ball was in constant movement from one end of the field to the other and although numerous attempts at goals were made by both sides they were all unsuccessful finally with one minute to play farabaugh threw a neat goal the final score was lehigh 6 columbia 1 princeton has dropped lafay ette from her next year's foot ball schedule the reason for this act is to be kept a secret according to the princeton authorities there is no hard feeling between them and the eastonians forum meeting on tuesday evening the forum held a short meeting president goodwin was in the chair ' after the roll call reading of the minutes of the previous meeting and elec tion of new members nominations were made for vice president sec retary and treasurer these nomi nations will be balloted on at the next meeting inasmuch as the next meeting will be the last of the term it was decided to make it of special interest and a committee was ap pointed to make arrangements for it the debate for the evening which was preliminary to the debate with the moravian seminary on saturday night was then begun the subject was : resolved that a system of cabinet government is better than the system existing in the united states the affirmative speakers were martin 05 and starr 05 and the negative was upheld by goodwin 03 and lord 03 the debate was closely con tested and interesting throughout after the debate the meeting ad journed on saturday evening in the grand opera house south beth lehem the glee and mandolin clubs will give their benefit concert this should be the best performance ever given by the musical clubs as the clubs are in excellent condition from the work on the southern trip the programme will be about the same as that used on the southern trip and will include numbers by the two clubs quartettes sextettes and vo cal and instrumental soloists mr reese our popular baritone singer will render a solo besides singing while old glory waves with the glee and mandolin clubs this number has everywhere proven a decided success and will doubtless score a hit saturday evening the vocal quartette consisting of messrs reese tracy johnson and sheseley have collected a line of amusing and catchy localities the saturday evening following the home concert the clubs will go to slatington where they repeat the performance under the auspices of the slatington social club arrange ments are also being made to give a concert at nazareth these concerts are being given with a view to raising money to pay off the debts of the clubs it is earnestly hoped that the undergrad uate body will turn out in force saturday evening and give this con cert the support that if deserves the payment of this debt means much to the musical organization and to the college for it goes with out saying that a trip such as was taken during the easter holidays is the best kind of advertising for the university if the debt is not cleared away there will certainly be no southern trip next season and this means that we will have no glee and mandolin clubs there is no college in the country not to speak of many preparatory schools which canno boast of well organized clubs most of which take extensive trips every season wake up boys and fan your spark of college spirit into a flame if you don't want to bring your best girl and sit down stairs go up in the gallery with the rooters the prices are low and there's room for the whole college yale has decided not to meet any western team in foot ball next fall it is expected that president roosevelt will again be present and that the number of army and navy officials members of the diplomatic
