notices seniors seniors can secure class books and class day invitations of s t h.arleman at 466 chestnut street south bethlehem seniors will kindly fill out and return postal cards as soojj as possible june hop committee the june hop committee wish to announce that the gentlemen's subscription will be 3.00 alumni association of lehigh university announcements the committee of arrangements for alumni day messrs j w thurston r p stout and e g grace has announced the exercises for alumni day tuesday june 1 8th 1901 as given in the follow ing program program for commencement week saturday june 15th 8.00 p.m.—calcu lus cremation to be held on university campus sunday june 16th 11.00 a.m — bacca laureate sermon by rev geo r van de water d.d new york city mqn'jay june 17th 2xo p.m class day exercises on the campus alumni day tuesday june 1 8th n 30 a.m — annual meeting of alumni association in saucon hall 1 00 p.m — luncheon at which the alumni and former stu dents will be the guests of the trustees and faculty 3.30 p.m — base ball ford ham college vs lehigh 9.00 p.m — reception by the president and mrs drown wednesday june 19th 10.30 a.m — commencement exercises alumni address by paul m paine 91 on behalf of the trustees and faculty of the university dr drown has extended a most cordial invitation to all alumni and for mer students of the university to luncheon on alumni day at one o'clock you are most urgently requested to make every possible effort to be present at this and every exercise of commencement week the northampton club of south bethlehem has very kindly offered the use-of its house no 216 west fourth street as a headquarters for lehigh men during commence ment week the entire day tuesday june 1 8th will be given up to alumni matters and the meeting has been placed in the forenoon so that there may be ample time for the trans action of the important business which will come before the meet ing the new physical and elec trical laboratory will be open for inspection and the preparations being made for the new mechanical laboratory should act as an added inducement to insure the largest attendance ever reported upon alumni day a johnston president h h stock secretary 809 quincy aye scranton pa continued on fourth page base ball lehigh 3 lafayette 6 " it's all up with us now was the general feeling when the la fayettes began coming home in that fatal ninth inning apparently to the excited lehigh imagination in bunches of twos and threes it all was so sudden ; so needless it seemed with the game well in hand at the beginning of the ninth and the team playing nearly perfect ball a little carelessness some hard luck for us and all at i once the lafayette rooters were dancing like mad and the score stood lafayette 6 ; lehigh 2 our half of the ninth seemed al most an anti-climax their half was so heartbreaking yet even so we would have beaten with a little luck two men out and one run had already come in de schwei nitz started from first as mckelvey hit the ball what proved to be a single to left the fielding was slow and he got all the way home reaching the plate with the ball the catcher made a lunge at him and the umpire called out ending the game and killing our reviving hopes had that run counted and the side not been retired le high still might have won the game for eight innings the team played gilt-edge bail,and deserve great credit for it especially does taylor merit praise for on his own work he won the game handily he played heavy ball did not get rattled even in the last inning and pulled out of several bad holes without loss lafayette did not score until the seventh when howard brought in one tally lehigh scored once in the fourth by lilley and once in the seventh by alder at the be ginning of the ninth lehigh led 2to 1 the margin was close but while pritchard seemed hard to hit taylor also was proving a puzzle then after the first man up for lafayettee the left fielder had gone out the disaster commenced and lafayette batted through the whole list back to the left fielder again with only one hit in the ten times at bat the five runs were rpne of them earned for lehigh de schweinitz's safe hit sent alder home in our half of the ninth de schweinitz was called out at the plate continued 011 fourth pags lehigh 6 ; toronto 11 the strong lacrosse team from toronto defeated lehigh in a spir ited and hard contested game on the lacrosse field monday may 3d the game throughout was fast and replete with good work by both teams at the st^rt toronto got a big lead and for a while suc ceeded in running away from le high ending the first half by the score of 7to 1 during this half the visitors played all around the home team and except in several cases managed to tip the ball at j will in the second half however lehigh took a big spurt and al most reversed the tables the line-up of the home team was very much altered from that of the last game several of the old men were missing but their places were competently filled by others fisher was tried at goal and for a new man handled himself excep tionally well shutting off a number of hard throws gummere was back in the game for the first time this season and greatly strengthened the team by his presence besides these men lattig and miller de serve especial mention for the visitors mcneal and grove deserve great credit for their accurate goal throwing and clever work in the first half toronto had thrown two goals when lattig put the first one in for lehigh this ended lehigh's scoring this half although toronto continued and scored five more points of the seven goals thrown in the first half for the visitors mcneal threw five and grove two * soon after the opening of the second half lattig threw lehigh's second goal which was followed shortly by one by tun stall and an other by lattig toronto again came forward scoring four succes sive goals then tunstall and lattig each added one to lehigh's credit before the game was finished final score toronto 1 1 ;
