comission list of new students the official registration has not been completed and no official lists will be given out until friday next when they will appear in the brown and white two yards chamberlin failed to gain and spiers kick went straight up pennsylvania getting the ball chamberlain stopped an end play with a 1 ss of a yard but on the next play ten yards were made around gearhart the next two plays failed to gain and lehigh got the ball on a fumble on her thirty yard line spiers punted forty yards but gardiner ran it back thirty yards chamberlain broke through and threw hare for a loss of six yards and an attempted double pass was stopped by gledhill with a loss of five more pennsylvania punted james fumbling but hawley fell on the ball behind the goal line scoring a safety spiers kicked out to mid-field the left side of lehigh's line was forced for three one and three yards then for two and ten yards eight tackle was hit for four yards first down being made around right end the ball was about eight yards from the goal and on first down pennsylvania made three yards on the second they made one yard and on third failed to gain on the fourth they lost but were given halt the distance to the goal two yards for interference this made it first down and gave them a chance to score the second touchdown which they did outlaud kicking the goal time eighteen minutes spiers kicked off thirty-five yards and the ball was run back ten yards lehigh's right end was rounded for fifty yards but time was called soon after waads u p 14 ; lehigh 0 second half a number of changes were made in pennsylvania's line which however did not improve it any spiers caught the kick-oft on the twenty five yard line pennsyl vania took the ball on downs pennsylvania lost five yards on the first play and was forced to punt on lehigh's third down ; spiers punted to mid-field mccracken brought it back thirty-five yards on the first p'i*y then made ten more but on the line but kennedy ran it back four j^ards pennsylvania fumbled loosing a yard then chamberlain caught outland for a loss of two and a half yards forcing pennsylvania to punt lehigh got the ball on the fifty yard line and on the second play a fumble by hawley gave it to penn sylvania they failed to gain and were forced to kick hawley was inter fered with in attempting a free catch and lehigh was given fifteen yards chamberlain made two and a half then one and a half continued on fourth page football lehigh o ; pennsylvania 20 the football season was ery satisfactorily opened on saturday when the team after but four days practice held pennsyl vania down to twenty points the halves were of unusual length for an opening game twenty minutes each but none of the men gave out and no substitutes were used this was extraordinary as the longest line-up in practice was only fifteen minutes the weakest points of the team were in open field tackling and catching punts the tackling was especially poor while one muffed punt inside the ten-yard line allowed pennsylvania to score a safety pennsylvania earned only twelve points their only score in the second half being made on a blocked punt after lehigh had taken the ball from them inside the ten-yard line pennsylvania was slow in starting fumbled con siderably and used poor judgment the one trick play they tried a delayed pass was a flat failure the back wtio finally received the ball being downed by gledhill for a loss of ten yards perm's line though much heavier than le high's was slow m starting while the varsity was exceptionally fast their fierce charging was res ponsible for most of pennsylvania's tumbles for by forcing the line back they mixed things up so that the plays miscarried and the runner was often downed for a loss both sides failed to take full advantage of the wind which blew throughout the game though lehigh made more use of it than pennsylvania spier's work at full was erratic his kick-offs were mostly poor and a number of his punts went straight up in the air he was slow at times especially in the second half when his attempt to punt out from the five-yard line was blocked four men new to the varsity were hawley bray ross and pa ne bray and ross did especially good work ; but hawley and payne were not so successful they lack experience ; but by hard practice may make good men spiers kicked off poorly for lehigh pennsylvania was unable to gain and was forced to punt ; james returned it pennsylvania gaining ten yards on the exchange after a couple of tries at lehigh's line pennsylvania was forced to punt again james fumbled the catch and the ball was pennsyl vania's on the five-yard line mcoacken carried it over in ten downs time six minutes goal was kicked by hare spiers second kick off went about forty yards and was returned to james who carried the ball back fifteen yards to lehigh's forty-five-yard line gledhill made lehigh s thirty-fourth annual opening exercises were held in
